Very Good.......2007-06-27
I received earlier than I expected. I think the delivery service is best than I've ever experienced. thank you.
Good review Book.......2007-06-03
This book is really helpful if you buy it when you start taking your engineering courses because most of the professors look at this book while picking up exam questions. Lets not forget its also a good review for FE.
If you buy this book when you are junior or upper sophomore and start using it as reference it wont be new book to you when you start reviewing it for FE.
Rapid Preparation for FE review.......2007-06-01
Great book, very helpful. Lots of solved examples. Nice break down into small chapters. Just great. If I will pass my exam I will rate it awesome.
Very thorough preparation.......2007-05-14
Make sure you get this book about 3 months before you are scheduled to take the FE exam, otherwise it won't be very helpful. All the questions follow the brief lectures and are organized by chapter, so it doesn't really give you the opportunity to practice in a style similar to the actual exam. I would first reccommend the sample question booklet availabe from NCEES, but if you feel you really need alot of prep, this is the way to go
A Lot of Helpful Information.......2007-05-12
Information was very useful but make sure you start more than 1 week ahead of time to get it all.

The most reasonable one in the market.......2007-02-09
Yes, the sample questions are more difficult than actual exam questions. However, this book takes you the very first beginning to make you understand all the topics. By the way, R.Lu named reviewer is absolutely wrong. Since it was corrected I am not gonna make additional comments about it. This book also is highly recommended by ASCE. Give your time, study smart, but hard. You'll be the happiest one after the exam. Good luck and the best.
Correcting R. Lu's Example.......2006-12-02
I am not reviewing this book, I am correcting the previous review which is fundamentally wrong. The example used by R. Lu to demonstrate the typical errors in this text is correct - R. Lu is wrong.
Force on a submerged surface is calculated using the centroid, or center of mass - indicated as hc. This is located at the midpoint of the surface (or h/2), in this particular case at a height of 0.75 meters.
The location that the resultant force is applied on that surface is the center of pressure, which for a surface that is located in the free surface, may be calculated as h/3.
The centroid (center of mass) and location of applied force (center of pressure) are not the same. R. Lu should review basic fluid mechanics before making foolish and incorrect statements.
ERRORS ALL OVER THE PLACE.......2006-10-21
This one of the few reviews I've written, but I feel an obligation to warn others to NOT BUY THIS BOOK. Aside from the more harmless typos that merely show poor proofreading and lack of professionalism that I've encountered throughout, there is even entirely false information provided. Here is the fluid mechanics problem that I just encountered that spurred me to write this review:
Problem Statement:
A cubical tank with 1.5 meter sides is filled with water. The force, in kilonewtons, developed on one of the vertical sides is nearest to (4 choices follow. The answer isn't important here. What's important is the completely incorrect solution provided a few pages later.)
Solution:
The average pressure (incorrect word choice, should be force)exterted on one side is the pressure that exists at the centroid of the side times the area of one side. (That much is true, if you include my correction). F=h_c *gamma*A, where h_c is the height of the centroid, gamma is the specfic weight, and A is the area of the side wall. )That much is also correct. The inexcusable mistake is what follows):
Since the sides are square, h_c =1.5/2= .75
Yes, the sides are square, but the pressure distribution along the side forms the shape of a right triangle, the centroid of which is located 1/3rd of the way up from the base!!! Had I not known this already and trusted this book, I would have been severely misinformed and likely to miss any problem on the test that requires knowing the location of a centroid of a triangle (this could very well come up in other sections besides fluid mechanics).
In short, spend the extra money for the books that got better reviews. I can't imagine how the 17th edition of a book can contain such an inexcusable mistake, in addition to the more numerous typographical errors. Actually, I'm sure I can come up with a reasonable explanation. Repeatedly releasing new editions makes buyers think they should buy the newest one in order to be most prepared for the upcoming tests. Since the basics of engineering have remained the same for decades, with the exception of computers and numerical methods, these chapters should be solid and free of most errors considering how many editions there have been.
This book reeks of the greed at Kaplan, where they are apparently so eager to turn a profit that they will attach their name to such a low-quality book. Phew! It feels good to get that off my chest.

Worst review manual ever!.......2004-10-25
This has got to be the worst review manual ever. The solved problems are difficult to follow because there is little to no detail. If you need to review IE topics, you're better off just getting the practice tests from NCEES.
very helpful.........2000-06-30
Best reviewer for the FE Industrial Discipline afternoon exam available. Sample problems come with solutions that are thoroughly explained. This well organized reviewer covers a wide scope of subjects and topics relevant to the exam. A few of formulas are different from the handbook but these are thoroughly explained as well so as not to confuse the reader. I highly recommend this reviewer to anyone planning to take the Industrial DS afternoon exam.

This book was very hard to follow. What really stinks is that the formulas aren't the same as the ones in the required reference book that you are allowed to use in the exam.

Customer Reviews:
Best Book For Beginners I Have Found........2004-08-02
I really like this book for beginners. Lately I have been giving scrapbooking start-up kits as gifts to friends and family, and have been including this book in the package. I would highly recommend this book!
Good Reference For Beginners.......2004-04-22
I am not new to scrapbooking, but thought I would like to have some books around for when I get "Scrappers Block".. this was the first one I chose. It's not much for pictures, but is filled with lots of practical knowledge. It fills you in on the differences between types of photo papers, adhessives, card stock, papers, and verious other things that are quite important to the look and longevity of your hard work. It is a bit dated, but the general information is a must for beginners.
Very broad - good for beginner scrapbooker.......2003-09-20
I bought this book and have read it cover to cover. It is a good book; however, it is very broad and covers a little bit of everything about scrapbooking. I've been scrapbooking for almost two years and really didn't come away with any more than I already knew. I was disappointed in it for myself, but am planning on sharing it with my mom who is just getting ready to get started. There really aren't many pictures and they are in black and white. More pictures, in color, would have added a bit more to the book.
Very helpful!!.......2003-07-17
After having my first child, my husband and I took an obscene amount of pictures. We then would look at the pictures, laugh, and allow them to gather in the corner in a big pile. Once our daughter began sleeping through the night (whew!), I finally had an opportunity to organize all of these memories.
This book was a lifesaver. I particulary liked the layout ideas. The author not only wonderfully provides several 'how to' sections, but also detailed examples to follow. For any first time 'scrapbooker', I would highly recommend this book.
Save Your Money -- Borrow It.......2003-04-15
A book about scrapbooking must have pictures; at least, that's how I feel. One can learn about supplies, paper quality, etc. from a knowledgeable shop-person. Layouts on the other hand requite creativity, and sometimes you need to see a few to get an idea. Further, there aren't enough pictures of the techniques that the author tries to explain. In scrapbooking, a picture is worth 1000 words. I would recommend going to your library and looking through whatever they might have before choosing one or two scrapbooking books to buy.

Book Description
To mark the fiftieth anniversary of The Hockey News, a committee of fifty of the most respected observers of the game – including Dick Irvin, Bob McKenzie, Harry Neale, Jim Matheson, Scotty Bowman, Al Arbour, Glen Sather, and Roger Nielson – selected the top 50 NHL players of all time.
The identity of the player who received the most votes was no surprise: Wayne Gretzky. The names of the next four might also have been predicted, although the order in which they were ranked – Bobby Orr, followed by Gordie Howe, Mario Lemieux and Maurice Richard – has caused heated argument. Without question, however, the names that make up the rest of the list, and the order in which they are ranked, could keep all true hockey fans engaged in debate for years.
When the original list was published in The Hockey News, it inspired every possible reaction, from enthusiastic approval to indignant rage. Each great player has his own fans eager to make the case for higher placement. Now, in this splendid full-colour collector’s book, the list has been expanded to include the top 100 NHL players of all time and the debate can be renewed again with vigour.
Customer Reviews:
No Yzerman. No way........2007-10-18
There are two types of player ratings. The first, where nostalgia counts for about 80% and actuall numbers and talent 20%. And the second, well that doesn't exist at the moment. I agree that new fans need to know the greats; however, your job is to rate the top 100 players. Now, to Yzerman. He did not have the "Gretzky Rule" where no one was allowed to touch him or the size of a Lemuiex. He did everything on pure talent and a dogged determination. When someone has a top 100 without Yzerman in the top 10, it says more about the author than the player.
99 instead of 4 as #1 is absurd.......2005-12-06
Not a bad book except for the absurdity of Gretzky being #1 in front of Orr. It seems to me the only people this would be a debate for are those who are not old enough or lucky enough to have seen Orr actually skate and play. You can't just look at numbers on a page and decide; you have to watch them in action! And anyone who has watched Orr in action wouldn't mistake Gretzky for #1. Gretzky put up AMAZING numbers, and, yes, that is part of the decision making process. But not all of it.
If you had a team of 6 Orr's against 6 Gretzky's, Gretzky would have a hard time even touching the puck for the whole game. How could you EVER get the puck away from 6 Orr's? You couldn't. It would be a slaughter and then no one could mistake Gretzky as #1. But alas, to see such a match up is a fantasy!
Also, I think it is a damn crime that Gretzky's number got retired from the ENTIRE N.H.L. instead of just from his team whereas Orr's number just got retired from the Bruins.
Accurate and Interesting.......2002-09-25
What makes this book so credible is that the most respected names in the world of hockey analysis compiled a list of the men that were the best of the best during their time. Due to the date of publication, some of the rankings would no longer be considered legit, but while reading about a certain player, the information and stories provided allows you to forget about rankings and simply relive the magic that the players brought to the game.
The Top 5 Players creates the biggest discussion. The debate will forever go on as to who the greatest player ever was. The debate usually revolves around Howe, Orr and Gretzky. There is a second arguement between who was better, Gretzky and Mario. Wayne Gretzky left no questions unanswered while Orr and Mario left us wondering what could have been. Gordie Howe will forever have a place in our heart as Mr.Hockey and was the perfect choice for Third overall. Rocket Richard was a nice way to round out the top 5. This piece of literature has inspired endless debates in the hockey world and anything that generates interest in hockey gets a seal of approval from me. I suggest reading this book or at least reading about some of the players you are more familiar with because I guarantee you will gain a new appreciation to what they brought to the game.
Top 100?.......2001-06-30
How can this book claim to be about the top players of all time when Steve Yzerman is conspicuously absent from the top 50. How many of these players have clocked up his kind of numbers ( for example: 155 points in a season ) and still continue to be a prodigious presence on the ice? Top 100? Don't make me laugh. This book lost all credibility the moment I read the contents page.
Nice play.......1998-12-10
This is a fine, nicely produced, digest-like introduction to pro hockey's most legendary players, the men who made the game in the 20th century. Filled with large, professional photos, brief statistical packages, and well-written summaries of each player's career, it would make a nice gift for the casual fan, as well as serve as the starting point of "discussions" among seasoned fans who are likely to disagree with the Hockey News' choices and rankings. / Since this is a virtual reproduction of the "Top 50 NHL Players of All-Time" magazine that was published by THN in Jan. 1998 -- the only additions being 14 pages covering players ranked 51-100 (with tidbit sized entries), another 10 pages covering "future prospects" and some more color photos -- fans who bought the magazine and feel compelled to buy this volume may try to look at the money spent on the book as less of a rip than the money spent on the magazine.

Book Description
Ranger - the very word conjures up visions of small, highly trained units executing lightning-fast raids on an unexpecting enemy. It is also synonymous with high esprit de corps and excellence at arms. The US Army Rangers provide units of well-disciplined soldiers who possess the knowledge and courage to operate on their own, deep behind enemy lines. Gordon L. Rottman explores the history of these unique troops, starting with the original 'Rogers' Rangers' company of 1756, whose daring operations and deep penetrations of enemy-held country laid down the pattern for all subsequent Ranger units to follow.
Customer Reviews:
Good attention to detail !.......2005-06-07
An excellent about the very complex story of the US Army Ranger and Long Range Recon Patrol units. Coupled with some outstanding illustration this is a good deal for those who are interested.
Fantastic research and comprehensive details........1998-05-22
As a member of one of the units covered in this book by Gordon Rottman, I can say that the attention to detail is flawless and well researched. The artwork by Ron Volstad is impeccable - from the color of uniforms and equipment down to the handles on smoke grenades, nothing is in error.
Having served with Sergeant Major Rottman (aka 'Gordo'), I can say that he is nothing if not thorough. His no-nonsense approach to all details is in keeping with the highest traditions of Army Special Operations.
SSG Al Lorentz
Excellent, a must for those interested in Ranger and LRRP........1998-01-19
A more compact, its is 64 pages, well written and illustrated book on the Ranger and Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol (LRRP) units of the period will be hard to find. According to the author information, Gordon Rottman was a Special Forces weapons specialist in the 5th SF Group in Vietnam in 1969-1970. At the time of publication in 1987, he was a civilian contract Special Operations Intelligence Specialist at the Army Joint Readiness Center, Fort Chaffee, AK and, as a Reserve MSG, the Operations Sergeant of the Opposing Forces Group of the 75th Maneuver Area Command. Ron Volstad did the illustrations and, not to take anything away from the text, the illustrations alone are worth the price of the book.
The book contains 10 pages of full color plates with 55 artist renderings depicting uniforms and equipment of Ranger and LRRP units of all eras from 1942 to 1987. The artist is very faithful in his capturing of the uniforms worn, including insignia, and the equipment carried by particular individuals. The artists illustrations are described in the last section of the book. Each picture has the specific items of clothing and equipment identified including the year of introduction of the item and its supply system designation (e.g. "M1 rifle with M7A1 grenade launcher and M15 grenade sight"). In addition to the artist pictures, the book includes numerous photographs of the Ranger and LRRP units and individuals from the years covered.
The section on the Korean War period is not as complete as it could be. However, the author did not have Bob Black's book "Rangers in Korea" (published in 1989) for reference. As it is, the book covers the Korean War period in about four pages and is a good summary.
The author begins by relating the problems of Ranger organizations in all the eras covered in the book. "Their missions and capabilities have often been misunderstood, and their personnel misused. Ranger organization and missions have changed with each war, which has led to an additional problem - lack of continuity between the wars." The author also illuminates the difference between Ranger-type organizations and LRRP units. Ranger-type units are intended for direct action missions against the enemy such as raids and ambushes. LRRP is used as a generic term to describe units tasked with passive deep penetration reconnaissance and surveillance missions.
I am very impressed by the book and recommend it to anyone that wishes to get a concise look at Ranger and LRRP units and a brief summary of their history from 1942 to 1987.

Book Description
In this book of reminiscences, this prize-winning Russian physicist presents a sweeping discourse on scientific achievement from the thirties to the present day. On the basis of his own work and that of leading international scientists such as P. L. Kapitza, L. Landau, R. Feynman and J. Bardeen, the author recounts the establishment and development of the superfluidity of liquid helium and quantum hydrodynamics. In an interesting and readable style, E. L. Andronikashvili speaks of the scientific quest and the human interrelationships that accompany scientific creativity. For historians of science and physicists.
