Small Barns Book.......2006-03-15
It was a good book to prepare for a small barn building project.
Not what was expected.......2005-12-30
Only basic info on planning a project and included plans are just a teaser to get you to purchase complete plans. There are much better general barn/shed books.
Small Barn Plans.......2005-09-13
It's marginally useful with hand drawn, black & white diagrams. You do get a sense of what building a horse barn or shed is all about. There are other reference books out there that deal with the subject in a more polished way though.
Small Barn Plans for Owner-Builders.......2004-02-18
I found this book to be an excellent source of information. It has greatly helped me do the planning for the construction of my barn.
not necessarily what the cover says..........2003-08-20
The cover bills it as 'complete' plans for 12 different barns- actually, to get complete plans that would be needed to get building permit do construction or buy materials, you have to order a set form the authors website. The book has nice practical ideas about working with subcontactors, and the designs and sources are quite useful.

Book Description
In 1942, while living in Mexico City, the cosmopolite and Austrian expatriate Wolfgang Paalen (1905–1959) founded a new periodical devoted to the arts, which he named DYN (greek), “the possible”. Paalen invited writers Anaïs Nin and Henry Miller, photographers Manuel Alvarez Bravo and Eva Sulzer, anthropologists and ethnologists Alfonso Caso and Miguel Covarrubias, and artists Pablo Picasso, Henry Moore, Alexander Calder, Marc Chagall, Robert Motherwell, and Jackson Pollock to contribute. Articles by Albert Einstein, Bertrand Russell, André Breton, Octavio Paz, and Gordon Onslow Ford also appeared in subsequent issues of DYN. Only five issues of DYN were published before the periodical came to an abrupt end in 1944. These journals have since served as inspiration to a small yet influential group of modern artists and thinkers. This facsimile reprint presents exact reproductions of all five issues of DYN in one compact volume.

Customer Reviews:
A magnificent continuation of a tremendous series........2000-03-29
I recently purchased this book, the sequal to Jink. Jink is one of the last survivng members of the race known as elves, along with her mentor, the elf known only as Egg. Together, with Jink's human lover, and his girlfriend, the four must stop the greedy attempts by human telepaths from accidently releasing an ancient force, left by the elves of the past, from destroying all in the solar system. I really love the story, though the lack of color is a bit strange (especially for those who usually read Marvel or DC) it doesn't really inhibit your enjoyment of this series.

Book Description
Take Wall Street and the Supreme Court, throw in a corrupt cop, a loan shark and a hot dog vendor and you've got Margin Calls and Other Disasters.
This story is true, intriguing and maybe even unbelievable at times, but when you finish reading it, any disaster that comes to mind now will be a faint memory.
Did I give any thought to the consequences of suing an attorney for malpractice?
What are the chances of a simple hot dog vendor arguing, let alone ever winning his own case in the Supreme Court?
This story begins when I was a little boy whose father just happened to be a Marine Corp fighter pilot, an ace in the F-4 Phantom. It follows my life through growing up with a learning disorder and on to the French Riviera then on to a short unsuccessful career as a stock day trader.
The FBI investigates a corrupt cop and a loan shark. One testifies at my trial and the other takes the Fifth. I hire an attorney who abandons me and take over my own case.

Margin Calls--No Disasters!.......2006-03-10
A compelling combination of family and personal anecdote and judicial intrigue, Margin Calls and Other Disasters demonstrates the ability of nonfiction to successfully incorporate the elements of effective narration and fictional storytelling. The story of a small, private business entrepreneur and stock market enthusiast, Margin Calls takes us literally around the world, from France and Italy, to Canton, OH, where the author, Clayton B. Smith, has, for the last several years, fought the "good fight" in the local, state, and federal courts against a criminal conviction for bad checks. Mr. Smith, a hot dog vendor, has, Don Quixote-style, represented himself Pro Se, and taken his battle to the Ohio Supreme Court. This book, which exposes the politiczed nature of the Court system, is seasoned with wry humor. His stories, from growing up in a military family, to his on-going feud with a self-proclaimed "Pit Bull" Stark County lawyer, are highly entertaining; the books's local cops, FBI agents, prosecutors, private lawyers, judges, and Mafia loan sharks are as colorful as characters in a John Grisham novel. In addition, Mr. Smith consistently employs a style and tone that create an instant rapport with his readers, and narrates his fascinating story with agreeable pace, detail, and insight. Because the aforementioned Supreme Court decision is still pending, we can no doubt look forward to a second book by Mr. Smith, who, because of his Dickens-like life, will probably never run out of stories to tell--and that is indeed wonderful news for all of us.
Good read! Difficult to put it down........2006-03-09
I enjoyed reading this book immensely. It has all the elements that make a story interesting. The author immediately connects and bonds with the reader through sharing of childhood experiences. Who hasn't suffered their own fair share of indignities while growing up, whether those indignities were caused by bullies, prima donnas, or class mate peer pressure.
A surprising abundance of humor throughout the book keeps the story fast moving, light hearted, and enjoyable. I know I had to laugh aloud probably 40 or 50 times. Strangely enough the real thread of the book is one of seriousness. In many ways the story is really a very sad one! The humor is delicately counter-balanced by some passages that are extemely emotional in nature, passages that caused me to be more than a little choked up, again caused by feeling of having "been there, done that."
I'd recommend this book to anyone who has ever had to suffer through the inequities of our court and judicial and legal system. Reader will feel at least some sense of healing, knowing that someone else has suffered and shared similar indignities brought about by not being fully and properly represented during their "day in court".
Great book!
Customer Reviews:
An excellent read.......2007-04-06
As an avid reader of history, one often reads about the forest and misses the trees. This book presents an a detailed story of one 'tree', the author's grandfather and his experiences in WWII. From the Bulge and his capture by the Germans to his time in German POW camps. The story really deals with his not losing sight of the goal, getting home to his wife and not succumbing to the disease and depression of being a prisoner of war. A quick read, I finished this book in two easy sittings.
Excellent Blend of Excitement and Historical Perspective.......2006-06-06
I greatly enjoyed reading this book, a memoir of a soldier's experience in World War II. Though a relatively short read, I was riveted, staying up until midnight to finish it! I believe anyone interested in first-hand accounts of WWII will appreciate this novel and learn a great deal about the role of a medic in the war.
Excellent read.......2006-02-08
a short book -- but the story will remain in my head for a long time
Compelling.......2005-11-08
This addition to the WWII memoir tradition is a sobering, humane, and occasionally poignant portrait of a noncombatant American taken prisoner in Germany. The combination of evocative detail and approachable style creates an absorbing, engaging text. Perhaps the book's power also lies in Fisher's minimal commentary. Allowing events and images to speak for themselves, the narrative moves skillfully between vivid combat scenes and the harsh realities of stalag life. With its surprising moments of compassion, generosity, and fortitude, however, `A Medic's War' ultimately offers a stirring vision of endurance in the face of the bleakest circumstances.
A Medic's War.......2005-10-28
In this day of wasteful fiction it is exciting to read a book based upon real life occurances.

Importance of Evangelicalism in Anti-slavery conflict.......2002-02-03
In the October 28, 1985 entry of my personal journal there is a reference to my having read this book. That was over sixteen years ago, I do not own a copy of the book, and I do not have present access to it. The major impression that remains on my memory was the additional confirmation this scholarly book provided as to the importance of Evangelicalism and segments of Evangelical churches in the battle against slavery.
Straight Forward History, Without any Frils.......2000-12-04
This is straight forward history of the conflicts between the northern and southern churches leading up to the Civil War. What is most interesting is that it destroys the popular myth that the churches were in the vanguard of the abolition movement. While there were some churches that were, they were the off shuts of the more established churches. It appears that the established churches were more interested in staying neutral and not creating conflict with their sourthern breathern then in fighting the evil of slavery.
The book has written in a scholarly manner and is very dry reading. But, for anyone who wishes to understand the role that the churches played, or didn't play, in the abolition movement the book is a good read.
