I found a handful of pages out of this book useful for space planning. Not worth fifty bucks unless you are designing equipment and products.
Awesome reference.......2006-11-05
There's minimal reading in this book, which is nice since it's good for reference. The reading that it does have is very simple with bulleted paragraphs full of information that you can't get from looking at the diagrams.
Great diagrams for industrial design students (I got this for one of my classes), gives you the measurements, reach, sight and motion range, pretty much any numeric info you need to know for the 1 percentile, 99 percentile, and 50 percentile man/woman.
Also has nice chart of child development w/descriptions of what the ave. child can do at each age, as well as diagrams for the elderly (and in wheelchair). This book is essential if you are going for product design or interior design.

I AM A BIG FAN OF THE AUTHOR, AND HAVE USED HIS WORKS IN THE PRACTICE OF MY WORK MANY TIMES, THE BOOK, IS GOOD WITH MANY PRACTICAL EXAMPLES, BUT SADLY DOES NOT SEEM TO TELL ME ANYMORE THAN I ALREADY KNEW. ....I WAS HOPING FOR MORE.

This is a beautiful text which is easy to read and reference. I've learned a lot from it. It's made for those who love books and the craftsmanship of publishing, not for those seeking colorful photographs.
Another misleading description.......2005-10-27
I purchased this book in the hopes of learning about some of the little known creatures of the deep. This seemed like a logical request given the title and description; however, I was truly let down. There is not a single bit of learning one can take from the text, the pictures are lacking (at best) and the author misses the point: Creatures of the Deep. Most of the creatures described are relatively shallow water creatures!
Don't waste your time.

I can never get enough..............2002-01-15
I just love Sorcerer Hunters. I have never seen the Animè version, but I hope it's as great as the manga novel. It's extremely funny, but can also be very serious. It does contain some nudity, so it isn't for little kiddies. There are also a few things that were left untold in the books, that made me a little confused, but they don't pertain to anything that would make a big difference. I really love this series :)
Volume 5..........2001-10-27
The Sorcerer Hunters Series, which totals 13 books in all, is a very well-written fantasy/humor/adventure. It isn't your average Japanese Manga... I learned that after reading the first volume.
I highly recommend this book, but only if you have read at least one of the other books before this. Up to book 4, it was short stories (at most 3 chapters long), and mainly for character development. The 4th book introduces a major story line as well, so it gives you more to think about.

The story continues with the Sorcerer Hunters' hunt for the Platina Stones. The main story takes us from a mysterious mansion surronded by Zechlova(sp?) trees, to a little shack in the snow. Here, we learn more about Tira and Chocloat's past, and get our first glimpses of Apricot Glase (Carrot and Marron's mother). Her personality adds a nice touch to the mood, because we begin to see why the main characters act the way they do.
This book is wonderful, and very serious on occasions. Don't worry, though. There are two stories strictly for humor between the two serious ones. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I do.

This has got to be one of the best mangas ever! In this book you would almost think that Chocolat and Carrot would get together.......Marron is sooooooooo cute

Book Description
This book is a classic in the field of the history of education. It contains the autobiography of Thomas Platter (the memoirs of a shepherd turned academic 1499-1582) and a discussion of his life and times. Written in 1572 but not published until the eighteenth century, it furnishes the best known account of the life of the wandering student of the later middle ages. To quote from Platter: "In the school of St. Elizabeth, indeed, at one time, nine Baccalaureates read at the same hour, in the same room. The Greek language was not yet anywhere in the land. Similarly, no one yet had printed books; the preceptor alone had a printed Terence. What one read must first be dictated, then defined, then construed, and then only could he explain it; so that the bacchants had to carry home great, miserable books when they went away."

MORE CONGRESSIONAL MEDALS OF HONOR WERE AWARDED ON THIS MISION THAN ON ANY OTHER SINGLE MISSION AND IT FILLS ME WITH PATRIOTIC PRIDE TO READ SUCH A

Memorable Account of a Legendary Air Raid of WW2.......2005-05-05
I first read this book in 1964 when I was fifteen & never forgot
its description of the battle which one squadron of B-24s (flying so low that at least one plane returned with corn stalks stuck in its rear wheel well) fought at machine gun range with a Nazi armored flak train traveling in the same direction as the overtaking bombers -- to Ploesti. A mix-up caused three groups to approach the target simultaneously from three different directions at three different altitudes, stunning the German flak commander with what he thought was incredible American air tactics. I re-read it fifteen years ago & would like to read it again but find it is almost impossible to find at a reasonable price in its original edition -- so many libraries have ditched it due to wear or lack of interest. A great shame because it is one of the best accounts of a bombing mission I have ever read. My own dad was a teenage engine mechanic (fresh out of Aviation H.S. in NYC) of a B-29 -- 'Bengal Lancer' -- in India and on Tinian Island in the Pacific.
A Peek Into Post-War Triumphalism.......2004-10-26
This work is best viewed not as an objctive history of the event but rather a look into the attitudes of New Frontier America towards the war that America and the Kennedy generation had won. It is to that era and audience to which this work was addressed. The book brims with superlatives and lacks any real criticism or analysis of America training, equipment or tactics at the time of the raid. British and Commonwealth figures who do make it into the text are suitably odd colorful characters such as the RAF squadron leader (major in US-terms) who pops up as a gunnery expert. Germans are stoic and somehow unmenacingly militaristic and certainly not Nazis.
Perhaps the sadist part of this far to optomistic look at the USAAF's daylight bombing campaign is the uncritical acceptance of the wartime bomb damage assesment. This gave the Tidal Wave crews credit for reducing Ploesti's refined oil output by 50-70% for the rest of the war. According to the US Strategic Bombing Survey such levels of destruction were not reached until more than a year later after a series of much larger raids by the 15th Air Force. Read has history pretty bad, but as a socialogical look at America in 1963, quite good.
The Best and Most Accurate for the time.......2002-11-25
I am overjoyed that this great book is once again in print. Dugan and Stewart, both of whom served with the Army Air Forces in World War II and knew many of the participants, were in a unique position that later writers are not. While they were somewhat handicapped in that some of the documents related to World War II were still classified when they were writing, their information was based on knowledge provided by the participants when they were still young men, with the memories fresh in their minds, and less convulted by the effects of the distance of years and their own personal aging. I bought and read the original while on my way to US Air Force basic training in the summer of 1963 and it is still one of favorite books. Although modern enthusiasts attempt to pick it apart, it will always remain the most important book on the Ploesti campaigns.

Entertaining but not accurate.......2001-12-18
Definitely not the best book available about the low level mission;this is an entertaining book which is full of errors,notably the statement that Wongo Wongo {which crashed into the sea}was the lead plane.The lead plane was always Teggie Ann,a fact which can be verified by talking to members of the 376th bomb group.Still of some interest as long as the book is read with a skeptical eye.Black Sunday is better,though still flawed.

Wonderful needed text on oft ignored subject.......2004-03-10
This is a wonderful book by a great author. It reads like a novel, from character to character from country to country surveying Europe from 1945 to present and the lives of the Jews who remained after the Nazi horror. Looking deeply into the lives of Jewish communities in the eastern block the author illuminates the still struggling Polish community, who suffered anti-Semitism either because they were communists or because they were not, usually simply as an excuse. The author deals with specific individuals and this is probably the greatest flaw of the text. Jews came to the very pinnacles of government in Poland and Czechslovakia(Slansky) and yet these pivotal government officials are all but ignored, because the author concentrates on the everyday lives of Jews who chose to either immigrate to or remain in Europe. So one is found wishing they could read more about Bruno Kriesky the Jew who led Austria in the 70s and was noted for being anti-Israel.
The book is broken up into neat sections detailing the growth out of the rubble of the holocaust, 1968 and the rebirth of European anti-Semitism among other subjects. Good portions are devoted to large Jewish communities in France and Italy. One overlooked community are the Spanish Jews who supported Franco, but otherwise this book is a must read for anyone interested in modern Judaism or post WWII Europe.

More Objective Than Most Similar Accounts.......2001-12-11
When Kurlansky, the author, describes the surviving Polish Jews, he does so with a less anti-Polish bias than many other writers on this topic. When discussing the so-called Kielce Pogrom, for example, Kurlansky recognizes the fact that this was no spontaneous anti-Jewish riot, but was orchestrated by the Communists (who were being forcibly imposed upon Poland at this time on the heels of the Soviet Army). Unfortunately, Kurlansky also uncritically repeats some stereotypic reactions to historical events. When considering the fact that Jewish involvement in Communism had provoked anti-Semitic feelings among many Poles, Kurlansky gives the standard line about this Jewish-Soviet collaboration being necessary to save Jews from the Nazis. But this is contrary to facts: To begin with, extensive Jewish involvement in Communism had long predated the origin of the Nazis, and continued long after their defeat. Moreover, in 1939, the genocidal intentions of the Nazis were not taken seriously. In fact, most Jews saw the Germans as a civilized people, and welcomed them as such.
A movie translated into written words........1999-04-08
More than typing a review , I want to deeply congratulate the author. I am 40 and it is the best book in the subject I have ever read. Eventhough English is not my native language I can feel the passion the writter used in describing us a real life movie in written words I should say BRAVO for his book.... ...I wish I can get in contact with the author and ask thousands of questions.......
