There are a wide selection of styles that one can find it dificult to not find something that he/she may like. The important part is that the line drawings are shown in very minute step by step details that make it easy to imitate the patterns in real life structures. Complete floor plans and three dimenstioan views are made available thus providing a more complete picture of what you are getting. These are real homes given with the actual location of the city where they were taken from. A great book for architects andhomeowners interested in the styles of a bygone era

I must be missing something..........2003-03-08
This book is VERY basic. I learned pretty much everything the book told me by doing my own research on digital camcorders, buying one (the JVC GR-D70U), and installing and running Pinnacle Studio 8. The book would not have helped me with my camcorder purchase decision, nor does its constant references to doing tasks running Windows XP help (since I use Windows 2000). I was also put off by the author's obvious bias toward Microsoft products. I realize this is a Microsoft Press book and some of that should be expected, but I've read other Microsoft Press books that were not nearly this bad. Ultimately, it's a lightweight read and a Microsoft marketing tool.

Whether you want to learn how to record better video tape, copy VHS tape to a DVD or view home movies on your handheld, you'll find lots of useful information in this book. It's clearly written with well thought-out examples and tips.

i take videos, tons of them and i can honestly say that "faster smarter digital video" by jason dunn has helped me get better results on what i've needed to do. if you have a video camera and have been putting off doing something with all that footage, this is a great book to get going quickly...makes a great holiday present as well. nice work jason!

I just started getting involved with Digital Video after I recieved a new Digital VideoCam few months ago.
I was seeking a good book for tips and techniques. Your book was well written and helped me understand 'how to do' and create great videos.
This book is a must from beginners to intermediate users. It explains the full process of digital video production. I enjoy the 'tips' and 'try this' features. It is easy enought for everyone to understand and start creating good videos.

This is a great book for anyone from beginner to novice level wanting to know more about Digital Video. This book is well laid out and flows from picking a video format to purchasing the right camera, editing the video and finally playing the video back on different devices. I rate myself a Novice user and I found many things that were new to me. The few bucks you would pay for this book pales in comparison to the hundreds or thousands of dollars you could spend on this technology and get the wrong setup. This book set my mind at ease by pointing me in the right direction for editing software. If you are in the market to record, edit and distribute Digital video, this book is worth it. I am trying to get proficient with this format because I plan to have children in the near future and would want to share all the moments with my family that is scattered all over the globe. Talk about a great christmas present for grand parents!! Get the book. You wont be sorry.

NOT FUN For Children.......2005-08-30
This book comes with pre-printed pages that you actually make the Pokemon characters with. The paper is SO flimsy that my 9 year old son was unable to even tear out a piece without it ripping to shreds. Because of the poor paper quality these characters are impossible to make. I am referring to a 9 year old child who is an artist & especially gifted with his hands and quite accomplished at Origami. I would give this 0 stars if that was an option and would return it if I had purchased it from an actual store. No Fun!

While the premise of this book is sound, it is too Pollyanna like to be terribly effective. But it makes a good story, sort of "Joshua Goes to the School Yard".
Anyone who is serious about altering our current course will want to read Robert Fuller's Somebodies and Nobodies, Overcoming the Abuse of Rank. He clearly shows the effects of rankism on all levels, and offers what are such obvious solutions that it is amazing to think they have been ignored for this long. Every person of all walks of life should read this book, do a bit of (honest)soul searching and apply the principles set forth.

This book is very easy reading but is loaded with lots of practical information on how to educate children according to the way they learn. Great for parents who homeschool and for those teachers who want to teach on a more personal level.

Read this to gain a balanced perspective on your musically gifted kid........2007-06-18
This mom struggles with what to do with her musically gifted kids. She becomes pretty consumed with developing their skills. This book encouraged me to take a more active role in working with my own musically gifted child. However, it also vividly illustrates the dangers of becoming a "music" mom. Overall, I didn't enjoy the book but think it gave me new direction and perspective to my own situation.
Amazing & Wonderful!.......2006-05-06
I don't usually write reviews, but this book is an exception. It is a deeply moving account of a mother's discovery of her children's giftedness, and along the way the discovery of her husband's giftedness and her own. I also have two gifted children, and although they are not profoundly gifted as Ms. Hein's family, much of what she wrote made sense to me.
I took this book out from the library, but I'm going to recommended it to my family, friends and school contacts.
A case of pressure.......2002-07-27
I seriously doubt that anyone who reads this with an unbiased perspective will believe the author when she states she has two truly brilliant kids, real prodigies, who soak up learning effortlessly. Not when she uses flashcards and spends a huge amount of time teaching and even drilling her children on correct musical performance.
Plus, this book is a hagiography. I believe that's questionable for any human being, but *especially* children who may grow up to feel ordinary. This is the Information Age where many people are contributing to many different fields in many ways. The odds of going down in history as extraordinary are lower than they used to be, in my opinion, because so many people are adding their contribtion. So these children may grow up and feel the best thing they ever did was to be lauded in this book.
My personal view is that many gifted children/prodigies are treated as secular saints. Like saints, many amazing stories are told about them, and as with saints, I think it's important to reserve judgement until we get some proof. It's not usual to see gifted parents go to the extreme of worship that some saints get (one saint, it was said, refused to nurse from his mother on Catholic holy days), but a fair amount of worship is seen in many of these gifted/prodigy books, and former child prodigies like Alisa Quark doubt that that is good for children.
I believe these kids are gifted, but pressured beyond belief.
An important contribution to profoundly gifted literature!.......2002-04-20

This book has loads of information and is very easy to read. The author uses humor to emphasize pertinent information. You will enjoy reading the entire book, even the sections that don't pertain to the Bar Mitzvah you are planning. Well worth the time to read.

The later Imperial Roman period has always been fascinating to me, but it is hard to find very detailed information on uniforms, armor, etc. This is one of several Osprey books that remedy this problem excellently.

This book deserves 10 stars! Osprey books are noted for their accurate representations of period aromour and fine illustrations. As a student of Roman history , I have read several books by Michael Simkins and have yet to be disappointed.

A Must for Military Equipment Enthusiasts.......2005-07-12
This book looks at the archeological evidence of the period 122-312 AD in order to give a very detailed description of Roman military equipment. Mr. Simkins describes the helmets, armor, weapons, and tools of the Roman soldier. Furthermore, the book contains a good overview of the history and archeology of Hadrian's Wall.
Basically, if you need information of high quality about the equipment of Roman soldiers, this guy is THE expert.
An unbalanced overview.......2004-03-06
The book's title is slightly misleading; although the central color plates illustrate representative images from the full range of dates indicated by the reigns cited therein, the text leans the discussion heavily toward the earlier part of the period and Hadrian's Wall in particular. Also, a disclaimer is included stating that much background material (including, presumably, definitions of some military terms used) is to be found in the companion volume, "The Roman Army from Caesar to Trajan."
Relating to the comparatively extensive discussion of helmets, the illustrations are scattered widely and inconveniently throughout the book (sometimes pages after the discussion of their object without any indication an illustration is included, frustrating especially after reading a detailed description) and references are again made to the companion volume. This and other subsections on equipment collectively dwarf other topics such as religion and diet of soldiers.
The author includes some unhelpfully amateurish drawings of his own besides much better photographs of his equipment reconstructions and the illustrator's plates.
The end of this period is treated more fully in Osprey's "Late Roman Infantryman" and "Late Roman Cavalryman," the balance handled in "Imperial Roman Legionary," which I have not seen.
