Having a grasp of design is essential in the interior designer's profession, but it is only one element of a successful practice. Grasping the principles of operating a business is equally important. Here, in a newly revised edition of his fourteen-year best-seller, Harry Siegel together with Alan M. Siegel show how to run a design shop smoothly and effectively. The book, the first and most' respected in the field, continues to be a must for all interior designers, architects, space planners, and certainly students.

Thoroughly updated to reflect current practices and procedures, the book is divided into four parts. In Part 1 the Siegels discuss how to establish an interior design practice. In Part 2 they describe how to carry through a job and charge for it. Included are a new checklist to help the designer handle initial contacts with the client, new descriptions of the use of combinations of fees and allocation of budget amounts, as well as three completely new chapters, Analysis of Scope of Services, Approach to the Flat Fee, and Sales Taxes. Alan M. Siegel, a partner in the law firm of Levy & Sonet, which is legal counsel to the American Society of Interior Designers, Inc., has completely revised the chapter on residential letters of agreement.

The special requirements of nonresidential work are covered in Part 3. Here too the chapter on letters of agreement has been completely revised by Alan M. In Part 4 the Siegels examine forms, techniques, and special factors including actual examples of the specialized procedural forms used in the design office. Perfect for perfecting female characters.......2007-08-10

This is the book if your having trouble with females characters or looking to improve it some more.
All of the other people complaining about nudity should just stfu. If they're in clothing how do you get the details you really need to improve your drawings. You have to be mature enough to know that it's art, not porn. There's a difference. It's the human body for god's sake...you have one don't you? Everyone is a human so why the hell are you complaining about a human body o.O If you don't want to "perfect" your females characters look at some other crap, but if your really willing, why care about the nude females. You are here to draw and not just flip through it to get horny and jack/jill off.

What others called "sexual positions" are simply positions that you use every day. Bending over, laying on the bed, sitting down, standing, and yes, some people even crawl to reach for things under their desk. Chill out about that. This book pretty much covers everything, the face which I needed help on badly. The upper body, arms, lower body, stomach and etc. I had trouble with fingers and this somewhat even briefly covered that. This is a truly great book by an amazing author(s)

The entire experience was amazing. Shipped earlier then expected, in pristine condition, no hassles no worry.

The product itself is great. The guide truly helps with the basic structure of drawing characters anatonomically correct. It's always better to learn how to draw something right first and then learn how to break the rules later.

This book does have *some* useful information, but it is mostly scantily clad or nude women in sexual positions. The only part that I found relatively interesting was the section on different clothing textures. I would *not* recommend this book to anyone that wants to learn realistic anatomy or poses.

Thinking this book would make drawing the female form easier in the manga style might not be the best motivation for buying this book. The book is almost completely based on sexual positions you may want to draw in and in my opinion isn't what drawing the female figure should be about. Buy this if your not interested in drawing anything but dirty pictures!

Excellent Book!.......2007-04-15

This book was helpful and provided in-depth info about the female form. It covers drawing ears, the hips, chest, eyes, as well as a variety of other featured acquitted with drawing girls. For those who bought this book and complained about the nudity... dont! Any true artist undserstands that the human body is just another part of their work. Ignoring the mature theme, this book was resourceful and I learned a great deal! I recommend it for beginner and intermediate artists alike.

A Sleeper!.......2004-07-31

I ordered this book sight unseen after viewing some of Mr. Spada's photographs on a website. I didn't know that the author of celebrity biographies was also a photographer-- and a very good one as evidenced in this collection of black and white men. Mr. Spada has a fine sense of composition and understands the importance of lighting to enhance the human body. Many of these photographs were shot using available light, which often makes for beautifully flattering studies.

Some of these photographs work better than others. I like in particular: (1) The torso on page 5. The stripes from the towel repeated in the shadows from the vertical blinds work very well to produce a beautiful photograph. (2) It's difficult to make a bad photograph using a mirror. Check out the portrait on page 14. (3) The man with a shaved head shot from the rear (page 24) exudes strength. (4) The photo on page 39 is quite sexy. (5) "Paul in my studio, Brookline, July 1998", (page 41) is artfully composed with good use of the black background. I would not have included the shots of the man holding tulips (pp. 76-77). Everybody and his brother have done that one already. These photos add nothing to the pictures already out there.

Finally, Mr. Spada is to be commended for selecting several young men who look as if they might have a life outside a gym. They have attractive bodies by God rather than by Gold. Few photographers doing nudes these days have the courage to do such a thing.

Amature Photo Quality.......2001-09-07

I was given a free copy of this book from a local bookstore. I was SHOCKED to see how highly the book was rated. The photos have amature composition and lighting techniques. If you're looking for artistic photos - keep looking becuase this book does not have them!

Now a Renowned Photographer!.......2000-12-08

James Spada is the author of sixteen books which include biographies of famous stars, and pictorial biographies ("Life in Pictures" ) of famous people that have made him world renowned. He has now turned his creativity to photographing the nude male. "Black & White Men" is his latest collection of photos, and it is exactly what it claims to be, black & white shots of young good-looking male models posed in very erotic and sensual poses. Spada captures natural light as it casts moody shadows on these well-developed bodies. Shane was my favorite model. I guess that's why he was made the cover model, someone felt the same way I did. You can tell James Spada has a relaxed and good relationship with his models, they all seem so at ease and uninhibited.

This book is over 90 pages, and that's my only regret. I just wish it could have been a more extensive selection of his images. I would recommend this collection of 60 images to anyone who enjoys male nude photography from a inspiring new photographer.!

So much of this book is actually true. Don't let the fact that is is a cartoon book fool you, this is not a book for the kids. Repeat not for kids.

Groovy Paddling Satire Sequel.......2000-10-24

You must be a paddler (or at least paddled once) to appreciate William Nealy's zany little collection of humorous sketches and creative cartoons. This collection includes unsolicited advice on paddling, epic adventures, another parody of outdoor equipment advertisements (S&M River Supplies), the "S&M Campfire Songbook" featuring the lyrics to "my Boat" (set to the music of "my Guy") and a host of other funny little penned paddling sketches and comics which, most likely, came right out of Nealy's river sketchbook.

It's a groovy little book and another cool thing to pass around on camping/paddling trips to get some laughs by the campfire.

Touching and evocative first-person account for mourners.......2004-03-02

I picked this off a bookstore shelf a couple of weeks ago, and I'm VERY glad I did. "When Things Get Back to Normal" is a small-sized paperback, consisting of the journal the author kept for a year following her husband's unexpected death. It's not a book *about* death and grieving; it's a book (a striking, beautiful, gut-level one) that expresses how one person was *hit* by it, and how things looked through her eyes as she came to grips with what happened and eventually began to pick up her life again.

I (age 29) lost my mom (age 55) equally suddenly, thee months ago, and I've had a hard time finding a book that spoke to me on the level I needed. The grief "handbooks" weren't doing it for me; I was put off by eminently qualified counselors and academics softly reassuring me about the "normal" steps of grieving. I headed into my mourning with an open mind, receptive to whatever my heart and head wanted to give me, so their reassurances rang hollow. Nor were flowery and poetic books giving me what I needed. I just wanted to read something, in a person's real voice, that resonated with the way I felt -- cheated, desperate, wounded. I found it in this little gem.

This book is private, sometimes raw and painful, and other times intimate and adoring, even funny. The journal-entry format makes it perfect for bite-size reading (and if you've just lost a loved one you may only be able to handle one of these perfect, painful little bites at a time). It is clearly written not by a counselor, but by a wife longing for her husband, in real-time and in her own voice. Anyone who has lost an intimate relative will recognize the adoration and longing she feels for him, and probably the occasional anger and resentment too. I know I saw my relationship with my mom in dozens of places in this book. She misses his little quirks, re-lives their old times and re-visits their future plans, left meaningless without him to share them. She records the everyday shocks and little losses, the downs of personal torment and the gradual little ups of healing, the larger meanings and philosophical questions of life after losing a loved one.

In the Afterword, Dohaney, a writer by profession, explains that that notebook she wrote these pages in was a gift from a friend just after her husband's death. She started keeping the journal just for herself, and only several years later did friends in the business convince her to publish it. Probably *because* it wasn't written with the eventual book in mind, her writing is the best of the first-person accounts I've seen.

I've finished the book now, but I think I've only progressed in my own mourning about as far as her half-way point. I have a sense I'll be re-reading this again and again as I go, feeling familiarity with more and more of it each time. I don't yet identify with the end of the book, where she starts to feel ready to live the rest of her life without her husband. I'm still stuck on the pain of the loss (recent mourners can relate, I'm sure) and somehow it makes me nervous/uneasy to think I'll ever be "over" the loss to that degree. But I'm willing to go along for the ride because everything she's said so far has resonated so deeply for me.

From my perspective, this book should be on the reading list of anyone who has lost a lover, spouse, or close loved one.

Homemade Wallpaper Remover?.......2000-04-01

As a new homeowner, I purchased this book to help me with the day to day chores of owning a home. We bought a 15 year old house that was in great condition - but that had 15 year old wallpaper in every room. I had stripped a few rooms before buying this guide. I was very dubious about the homemade solution of equal parts water and vinegar to strip wallpaper. Vinegar and water, to strip vinyl wallpaper off my bathroom walls? No way. IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM! Easy, virtually free and no mess! I've told all my friends who re-decorate to use this tip!

As far as the rest of the book, it gives very good, clear and concise information, directions and tips on everything from cleaning your house, to feeding your family. It's a wonderful guide for any new (or not so new) homeowner to have on hand!

Brilliant Coffee Table Reading.......2005-07-09

I originally ordered this book after searching for titles on my son's 6th grade summer reading list. Air Force One is not what I would consider "summer reading" for a 6th grader, but it is a great coffee table quality book, with brilliant color and black and white photos interspersed through very well-written and interesting history of the president's aircraft. It gives insight into the world events during each U. S. presidency as well as some highlights of each presidents' use and views of Air Force One. Also included is a section on presidential pre-aircraft travel and Marine One, the president's helicopter. My son, who loves any information about aircraft, spent hours looking through it, although he did not read it word for word. Great to have as reference or historical enjoyment.

But where is Harrison Ford?.......2004-02-15

This informative and interesting book traces the history of chief executive flying from Franklin D. Roosevelt to George W. Bush. Each president brought his own personality to the plane: John Kennedy was often hoisted in a steel cage to the entrance to avoid climbing the stairs with his ailing back; Richard Nixon preferred to remain isolated once aboard and seldom moved about the plane; Jimmy Carter used flights on Air Force One as a reward or inducement for congressional members' votes; Bill Clinton liked to pack the plane with political luminaries; in November Bush flew Air Force One into the heart of a hostile Baghdad to have Thanksgiving with our military in Iraq. There are numerous photographs and anecdotes about the plane and its place in history. This book would be of great interest to "presidential" buffs! There are wonderful, never before seen photos (at least to me)! I especially love the photo of President & Mrs. Reagan greeting their dog! However, I beleive the Reagans' dog was named "Rex" not Millie..as the caption states!

This is an interesting book both textually and visually. It shows how aviation made the Presidency a world office. Aviation buffs will enjoy the lineage of Presidential Aircraft and the inside and outside views. Much history occured on Air Force One and newsman Bob Schieffer presents some of the more historic moments for us. There is a table inside which shows how many assets and resources are necessary just to move the President of the United States which is an eye-opener. A fascinating book and a great gift idea for the holidays. It's one of those books that you'll look at again and again over the years.

Easy to read and full of information.......2002-02-01

This Western Civilization book is full of information and is very easy to read, unlike some other books of the same subject. It presents information that you need to know and that you would've never known without this book. The coolest part is that you can take the quizzes and tests online instead of actually having to go to school!

excellent resource for basic information.......1999-01-18

I use this book as the resource for an adult science education course I teach at a local university. I find it an excellent base for information for people who have not had any real science exposure. My students have reacted positively to its use amd I would recommend it for middle/high school library reference as well as for older students.
