The amount of detail and research that's in this book is astounding. This is not another coffee table picture book. Its filled with beautiful pictures, and an equal amount of readable, scholarly writing about a culture thats slowly getting lost to the west.

I love the more detailed drawings seen in this book. Alot of pencil drawing technique books look dark and smudged. Phil Metzger has used a wonderful talent to help others. I generally try to be more photorealistic in the pictures I draw in pencil or pen and ink and this book was one of the most helpful I have found. Buy it Buy it Buy it if you really enjoy drawing and want others to see what you were looking at when you drew it.

It describes how to interpret nature and useful techniques at drafting what you see. I got a lot out of this book. The artwork is fabulous. This book is a great starting point for an adventure in nature and landscape.

This was to be my next purchase from amazon, however, a one night out with my husband he decides to go to or local bookstore and as impaient as I was I decided to get it then. Believe me, that was a mistake, I have gotten 2 books from amazon for what I paid at Books a Million for this one. However, I was just proud to have it. This book has really helped me discover new and amazing techniques. BUY IT, you wont be dissapointed.

I highly recommend this book. I first read "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" and this book is a great follow up to it for anyone who thinks they cannot draw! I could hardly draw legible stick figures and now carry a sketch book with me wherever I go. Mr. Metzger has a way of writing that seems to speak to you at whatever level you are at in drawing. His examples are excellant. Tips abound. GET THIS BOOK!

This book was a joy to read and I think all parents, grandparents or anyone working with children should have a copy to encourage good picture taking. I just had my 5th child and it gave me good ideas to use throughout his first year that I wish I'd had with my first baby.

I guess I was just hoping for more than just basic ideas. I've been photographing people and families for about 5 years (casually, not professionally) so I'm not sure what I wanted, but the book left me wanting more. I wanted more insights, I guess; more direction; more specifics. Too basic. A quick read.

Fantastic reference and resource!.......2007-09-26
The work in this book is artistically beautiful. It gives a brief "Where I came from" type story which is at the least, inspiring! From US Marine to comic book artist and then some! Mike Ploog's history is incredible! Then we are treated to a plethora of the most diverse and imaginative art ever! Mr Ploog's versatility is showcased here depicting spaced out aliens to Santa Clause to sexy comic book gals. His work is imaginative, dynamic, and awe-inspiring for young artists and accomplished professionals as well. I personally look through Mike's work just to get my creative mind jump started! This book does that as well as document the life of one of this country's most treasured natural resources, Mike Ploog!

Wish there was a volume two.......2004-01-19
Pros: To open the volume, Mike Ploog pens a short article giving nice background on his varied career working with Will Eisner, Marvel comic work in the 1970's, movies and animation. The book is jam packed with beautifully rendered drawings of dragons, monsters, warrior women and much more which spring from the fertile imagination of Mike Ploog. The inside front cover featuring a drawing of Frankenstein holding his bride is truly spectacular as are many others inside this collection. At $9.99 the low cost is a definate plus.
Cons: Too short at only 64 pages. Introduction mentions there are further sketch books planned but that was in 1998 and none have come out. The sketches are not identified or given any date or background information. The interior was black and white, some of Ploog's work in color would have been nice to see,
Overall anyone who is familiar with Ploog's work will be very pleased with this art book and those that aren't will discover one of the best fantasy artists around.

Stepparenting Without Guilt has really helped me to better understand the painful situations that come up in a stepfamilies and how to deal with them in a way that is constructive and loving rather than hostile and combative. Since the author is both a licensed therapist and a stepparent herself, I appreciated this book even more. Not only is there a lot of useful information, but also an emotional understanding about the difficulties of being in a stepfamily that only comes from personal experience.

On July 24, 1715, a Spanish treasure fleet sailed from Havana, carrying a cargo of 14 million pesos in gold, silver and jewels. In the Florida Straits, near present-day Cape Canaveral, the fleet ran into a hurricane, with the disastrous loss of ten ships and 700 lives. Little was salvaged at the time. For more than two centuries, sand and sea held their secrets well. Occasionally, however, tides and storms tossed blackened silver coins up on the beaches, tempting would-be treasure hunters. Among the most successful was the Real Eight Company, contracted by the state of Florida to recover the valuable treasure and historical artifacts under the supervision of state underwater archaeologist Carl J. Clausen. Spurred by the unique finds on the ocean floor and curious about the full story behind the tragic event that had scattered this fabulous treasure along Florida's east coast, he and Robert F.
