Another great book from this author and painter. Again, a great variety of work and examples are shown, with excellent practical and easy to understand instructions.
Flower Painting.......2006-05-21
This book is really well organized in a step by step understanding on the basics of compostion, color mixing (the actual paint to obtain a certain color),color fundamentals, brushes, and background when painting flowers. If a person is new to painting, the basics are here. However, it does lack detailed step by step demonstrations that will guide a person from the start of a painting to the finish. Only brief general demontrations are in this book. If a person wants to know how to brush stroke a leaf, make a stem, and a pedal I would suggest in addition to using this book another book on brush stroke techniques. There are lots of beautiful paintings in this book. Just looking at the photos helped me to figure out the brush strokes but then I have some experience in painting, mostly portraits. Not having painting lots of flowers before, I wondered "do I start in the middle? or the outside of a flower?" I don't beleive it is mentioned in this book. I found in another book that I would start in the center when painting roses, and tulips are different, and so are poppies on where to begin. A rough outline on the sphere and anatomy of flowers is given in Helen's book which realy helps when painting.
exceptional book.......2000-06-10
As a lover of flowers and a painter I truly enjoyed this book. Readers will find a step by step guide into the world of painting and be guided into the specifics of painting flowers. Tha author gives a through and one of the most complete explanations of the basic components of a painting. Her explanations for the values Composition,Drawing, Motivation, Color, Harmony and Tone value are excellent and well worth the price of the book and make you feel part of an actual art class. Illustrations are magnificent and the authors personal experience and tips are nopt only helpful in the art of flower painting, amateur or professional, but become actual blessings. It is truly a book worth owning.

Confusing Mishmash.......2003-07-26
This book appears to have a lot of helpful information in it, but there are a lot of gaps. It takes a subject and touches the tip of every iceberg, but leaves way too much information out and assumes way too much knowledge on the user's part. The photos of the projects are horrid; just barely ledgible and convey no real information about what each step is trying to accomplish. The section on superimpostion is a hash of jargon and half formed concepts. Useful if you can get it cheap, but otherwise save your dough.

I bought this book out of desperate at a neighborhood book store, and found out it was no more than the User Guide came with the application. Invest your money for something else.
Sloppy Stuff- Not For Beginners.......2002-11-18
I'm new to Premiere so I thought this book looks rather promising.
I have to admit I haven't read the whole book. I'm still stuck at chapter 1 ('Premiere Quickstart'), and that's because the steps given are not entirely in sequence, some important labels in the diagram are missing (where's the thread area you're talking about?), and things work out differently than described.
In summary, this book (at least the first chapter) is a sloppy piece of work. Don't touch it if you're a beginner.

Firstly, a little about myself so you can gauge how useful this review is to you; I'm new to video editing. I'm new to Adobe Premiere and I'm absolutely frustrated with other applications like Ulead VideoStudio 6 because it isn't flexible enough for me. I haven't had the pleasure of using real-time editing facilities...yet.
After having looked at the manual and then the Classroom-in-a-book series, I think this book fit the bill quite well. It explained how to perform tasks, why the tasks were performed in a particular way, alternatives to how a task could be performed and even gives ideas on how the tasks could be used in a production with sample projects.
I actually found the reading much easier going than trying to wade through Adobe's manuals. However, having said that, the book isn't light reading either. I used it by going through the book with Premiere running. Sometimes, I would skip ahead because something caught my eye.
If you have only got the manuals to go by, pick up this book written by an experienced Premiere user willing to share those experiences.
Everything I needed.......2002-04-23
Maybe some of thew other reviewers were expecting too much from this -- I dunno. For me, this Bible lived up to its name and provided me with everything I needed. I actually thought there was a lot of stuff in here that was original and definitely not included or addressed with the Adobe user's manual. The use of real-world videos, the regular presentation of alternatives for doing things, and the info on using Premiere with other software added way more depth than what was available from Adobe. My only criticism is that some of the screen shots are too dark.

Good Starter.......2004-06-05
This book was very helpful in getting me started. I didn;t have a background in video but needed to do some work related projects. I found chapter 6 (editing audio) for seperating audio tracks helpful and chapter 7 (transitions) a big help for adding great effects to my videos!
It taught me what I needed to know about editting video with this powerful Adobe tool! Love the Bible series.
Haste Makes Waste!.......2003-01-27
I think this was probably the first book on the market covering Adobe's new 6.5 version of Premiere and it's quite obvious.
Unfortunately even in the hands on "Quickstart" at the very beginning of the book there are several type-O's and incorrect wording. It's not spelling mistakes but incorrect words. As an example they tell you that you can preview the transition effect by "double-clicking the Transition icon in the Transition palette" when in fact you should double-click the Transition icon in the Timeline, NOT the Transition palette.
Additionally their numbers don't correspond when they tell you how long to make the example clips and where they should fall on the timeline.
There are several other examples just in the first few pages and for a newbie it makes following the example rather frustrating and confusing.
Since I'm only just this little bit into the book I can't say for certain if it gets better or worse or stays the same but it's very evident this book was rushed to market.
Funny enough too that even though the book is for Premiere 6.5 the CD includes a tryout version of Premiere 6.0!
There's no excuse for this kind of shoddy penmanship (typemanship??) and I highly recommend you wait for other books that are forthcoming - read: more thoroughly edited!

Raising Nuestros Ninos is a brilliant and outstanding piece of work. It gives inside to parents, educators, and society as a whole about the raising of Hispanic children in today's world. In this book, Ph.D Gloria G. Rodriguez gives an inside perseptive of the Hispanic form of raising children according to the culture based on her childhood, the raising of her three children, and as an important educator for parents. She touches bases with all points of intrest and adds spice to her vivid book with traditional Spanish dichos, poetry, and dishes. I highly recomend this book to all.

Worthy addition to the sniper's library.......2004-12-16
Major Spicer's book is encyclopaedic in style. It provides a wide survey of sniper craft; the tools, training and the tactical role snipers fulfil on the battlefield. As such his book provides an excellent broad foundation on the subject but lacks the detail of other works such as Maj Plaster's "The Ultimate Sniper". The strength of Major Spicer's book is the copious, detailed and well thought out colour photographs illustrating key points throughout the text (the lack of colour photographs in Major Plaster's book is perhaps a minor weakness). I must confess in one or two of the photographs I can't definitely detect the location of the sniper and observer - a very good sign. In summary, I strongly recommend this book for its photographic content and as an excellent introduction to medium level reference work on sniping. It is a worthy addition to the sniper's library.
Short but very informative.......2004-06-18
Don't be fooled by the small size of this book (around 135 pages); Spicer conveys a tremendous amount of information within that limited space. I've read a few books about sniping, and this one is the best one in terms of explaining technique. If you're into paintball (which I am), check this book out-you may pick up a few techniques that will help you improve your game. I know I did.
A very good book.......2003-06-13
I have read many books on Sniping and techniques. This book is the most thorough out of all the books. It has many pictures to give you an idea of how to conceal yourself and various rifle positions. It is a very basic book and doesn't go into much detail but that will be found in other books. This is a great book and should be owned by every sniper enthusiast.
Sniper by Mark Spice.......2003-04-17
Having bought this and John Plasters book I read this one first. It's a good colourful book with plenty of photos which helps you to actaually practice various shootin positions. The book doesn't go into a huge amount of detail, but does give you a good basic explanation on how to develop a good technique. I would definitely recommend buying this plus a more advanced book to learn sniper skills. Spicer also gives details of various countries and models alot of his photo's on the Gurka snipers. There are also only a couple of pages regarding ghillie suits but does emphasise camouflage without actually giving too much detail. After that you'll need to pack up and load up and learn by experience.

This is a great book. It's filled with pictures and has profiles of several countries sniper rifle(s). Paked with all the aspects of sniping. You have to buy this book.

I would recommend this book for anyone intrested in teaching younger children mathmatics. It starts on the basics such as addition and goes through geometery. It is very helpful in reminding adults how to do some basic math that we might have forgot. I used this book two semesters in a row at CSU Stainislaus. There isn't a single Liberal Study major who hasn't used this book. This book has "Highlights from History" that tell you about the people that created the different math ideas. "Hands On" gives you fun math activities to try and pieces from the NCTM standards and many more helpful articles throughout the chapters. This book makes teaching math intresting for you and the children you teach it to.
