Customer Reviews:
The best companion for an artist.......2006-07-28
As a fine arts professional and art teacher, I've bought hundreds of drawing and painting books extracting the best.
In Tim Deibler's "Capturing the seasons in Oils"I have extracted almost all the parts of the book soo useful they are!
The book have treasures of basic and indispensable topics as in Chapter 1 "The four key elements of painting" - explaining Shape, Value, Color and Edge ( The edge part its wonderfully detailed).
In "Painting methods" Tim not only describes the techniques but shows the thing with terrific illustrations!
In "plein air painting" You have a fine selection of equipment and delightful titles as "I'm outside, Now what?"
On the last part of the book you have precious step by step demonstrations with detailed materials as paints, brushes and other supplies in little tips boxes.
A clear up to the beginners and the advanced!
If you buy this book I'm sure that by itself it will be your best companion and instructor for long long time !
EXCELLENT!.......2006-02-18
I have greatly enjoyed all the works by this artist. His instructional video of this title is right up there at the top of all art videos. I've never seen an artist paint so fast and loose, and tie it all together into such inspiring pieces. His mastery of color and how he does his mixing is exciting and quite unique. Never seen anything like it.
Worth every penny!!
Sloppy.......2006-01-29
Too Loose and sloppy
Tim's DVD by the same title is especially bad. The production is good but Tim's technique is quite sloppy even for quick studies.
Better choices would be "14 Formulas for Painting Fabulous Landscapes" by Barbara Nuss and "Painting Better Landscapes" by Margaret Kessler other notable publications by Gregg Kreutz, David Leffel and Richard Schmid would be a wise investment.
Beautiful and colorful.......2005-10-05
I was very inspired by the vibrant paintings in this book. This book has a compilation of a large number landscape paintings created by the author. The artist has demonstrated the steps required to create different effects and seasons using various techniques. Some more detail into these techniques would be excellent. For example, how to create the look of branches of trees against the bright sunlight.
A solid painter.......2005-02-16
OK so a lot of books by this publisher are kind of lightweight but this is a nice exception. Tim Deibler has a lot of painting and color knowledge and shares it in this book.
His palette is spare but he gets miles out of it. He really knows how to mix color and he brings a freshness to each work. He's not one of those painters that keeps repeating the same color formula.
This is a well done book with exceptional color reproductions.

All time favorite photographer.......2003-08-09
Andre Kertesz is the real inventor of street/reportage photography. His influence can be seen in the work of other greats like Henri Cartier-Bresson and Bruce Davidon. This is a collection that spans from his early work in his native Hungary, to his Paris years, to his new home--the USA. A must-have for all who love photography!
Customer Reviews:
Andre Kertesz.......2004-06-17
Andre Kertesz, Sixty Years of Photography
Andre Kertesz was known as the photographersEphotographer. He worked to capture the things he saw and wanted to photograph, and I think that's what separated him from the rest of the photographers. Kertesz captured the motion and converts it to a poetic melody. Simplicity and the sense of form was what he was aiming for. All of his photographs have some kind of symbolic meaning witch made the image beautiful in a surrealistic way.
Kertesz worked in a variety of modes, from portraits to still lives to nude distortions to photo-reportage, he captures the telling moment and expressive details from subjects.
His distorted nudes became surrealist as a way of interpreting a classical subject through his own style. The human body when combined with the movement and sensitivity of reflective light became a different subject. Kertesz style changes frequently but what doesn't change is the lyric truth behind each of his photographs. The full range of his masterly-fragile, intimate and gently ironic style makes the subject his own. The photographs with people walking in the streets have certain patterns and deep space that half of the lines converge to vanishing points. He captures peoplesEgesture that demonstrates their personal life story in a poetic way that makes life seem beautiful. "Respect yourself as well as your subject matterE is the well given advice from a great photographer.

Customer Reviews:
Poor translation.......2004-05-13
The translation to Storm Riders is terrible. Parts of the book are so bad; you think the translator never took an English class in his life. "Do people really talk like that?" The biggest annoyance of the book is the translator can't decide to use the English translation of the characters name or they're actual Chinese names (i.e. Cloud or Bu-Jing-Yun). And if you think it gets better as you progress through the series, you're wrong.

Another Note: The art is Awesome!
A fun and wild ride.......2002-10-03
Okay, I'll admit that I watched the movie before I read the comic book. However, even though "Storm Riders" is one of the most awesome movies I've ever seen, the book, of course, is better. I'm not a big fan of this style of art, but I quickly got used to it. It's definitely not the slick and commercialized sort of art that a lot of the big companies produce. It seems more esoteric, flowing, raw, and especially well suited to the sort of universe presented in "Storm Riders."
As a big fan of wuxia/kung fu fiction and movies, I instantly fell in love with the story and the characters. I'm not sure what someone who wasn't familiar with the style would think, but even if you aren't, check it out anyway. The characters are solid, the action is well-depicted, and I was left wishing all of the volumes were available right now in the U.S.
Definitely worth it!

Great Martial Arts fiction.......2006-07-01
If you have ever read a Louis Cha (Jin Yong) novel, then this is almost just like it. The action is so vivid, you'll think you're watching a movie. And you will enjoy the story of "Nameless" as he gains enlightenment through the adversities in his life. I wish there were more martial arts fiction out there like this.

Far from the comforts and stresses of "civilization".......2002-01-09
In 1969, Barney Sabo decided to resign from his position as a secondary school principal and move to a remote part of Alaska with his wife and reside in a wilderness hunting/fishing lodge almost 200 miles outside of Anchorage. Alaska's Evergreen Lodge On Beautiful Lake Louise is the biographical story of how the move was made, the life style changes that ensued, the challenges and adventures experienced so deep into nature's wilderness and far from the comforts and stresses of "civilization". Alaska's Evergreen Lodge is highly recommended reading for anyone who has ever dreamed of chucking it all and going "back to nature" to enjoy a simpler life.

Parents And Adolescents Living Together: The Basics.......2007-07-19
This book is a powerful tool for parents in managing a family. I have found that it's concepts apply to all members of the family, not just teens. It is well written.
Well-described package of behavioral techniques.......2004-06-14
The subtitle of this book, "The Basics", is very appropriate, as it provides a very detailed and well-organized description of the basics of a behavior modification approach to improving a parent's parenting skills and addressing conflicts between parents and their adolescent children. It isn't a panacea and, unlike some parenting books, it does not claim to be one.
The first part of the book is more global and describes the way the authors see parenting and familial interactions, with the problems seen in many homes and their theory as to how many of those problems arise. Then, they get into the specifics of monitoring behavior, picking target behaviors for modification, charting, point systems, and effective but non-hostile consequences.
I am a child psychologist working in a clinic that specializes in working with low-income families with children who exhibit severe psychopathology. The approach described in this book would work best with children who could be diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Conduct Disorder, and similar diagnoses, plus it might work well, with modifications, if used with children showing symptoms in the Asperger's-autism spectrum. I think the purely behavioral approach described here would run into problems if it were applied to children with diagnoses involving significant clinical depression, high levels of anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and thought disorder.
Overall, this is a good parenting book for parents whose children have behavioral problems, especially if the parents themselves are not experiencing significant emotional problems.
Improve your parenting skills; Improve your child's behavior.......2000-05-17
Gerald Paterson and Marion Forgatch provide practical, useful and effective suggestions on how to improve your parenting skills and thereby improve the behavior of your children. Replace negative, coercive parent/child interactions with more positive, reciprocal interactions. Volume I covers basic family managment skills: how to give effecitve instructions, how to set up household rules, how to design and implement a basic point system and so on. Part 1 teaches parents how to respond to specific adolescent behaviors and establish consequences that result in changes in their child's behavior. The principles in this book work well with kids aged 8 through 16. Some suggestions may not be as helpful for older teens, 17-18 years old. It's better if you read the book now, when your child is 8,9, or 10 than wait until your child is 17. Buy both volumes 1 and 2. Volume 2 covers Communication Skills, Problem Solving, Sex, Drugs, and Alcohol, School Problems and more. The two books are an excellent resource for child counselors and family therapists.

Book Description
Scientific investigation into manned flight began early in the 19th Century at a time when steam power was the only transportable propulsion generator available to the many pioneer flying-machine designers of the day. This unique history of the attempts, failures and successes to master the art of flight gathers many intriguing, fanciful and extraordinary designs from around the world. The author describes in detail how many types of steam engine were adapted for use in flight and the flying-machines into which they were fitted. This is an amazing and untold story of the men who dreamed of flying in an age when horse-power was mainly generated by the animal of the same name.

Customer Reviews:
Learn how to read the weather while flying........2001-09-17
Mr. Bradbury writes clearly and in an organized manner on aviation weather phenomena that pilots should care about. Pilots who have paid attention during their weather training will have adequate background for this presentation. Perhaps this could be considered the next level of aviation weather education for pilots after they finish their certificate. There is a slight European slant evident. If you are still struggling with the metric system, you may wish to put on a pot of coffee before indulging.
While this book lacks the eye-catching color graphics of NEXRAD echoes, it teaches us how to read the weather and understand why it behaves the way it does. No introductions are contained on how to read a weather chart; explained are the implications of what you're seeing on your weather chart and what this will mean later on in your flight. Clear black and white illustrations are perfectly adequate for conveying frontal phenomena, orographic features, jets, land-sea-air interaction and convection. "Meteorology and Flight" is not written with full-color, glossy pages for the attention span-impaired. Get this book because you care about the significance of the weather you encounter, and the weather you wish to avoid encountering, while flying.
Meteorology and Flight.......2001-02-11
This book covers some very interesting aspects of weather. It is really aimed at pilots, who want a good understanding of what they are flying into. Illustrations and diagrams are excellent. The repoduction of the satellite images is first class. The only real problem with the book is the author seems to have forgotten about the allowing for those who live in the southern hemisphere.
