Customer Reviews:
Winw itsef is an adventure.......2007-02-10
The worldwide selection of good wines to-day is so varied and good-tasting that choosing among wines you never met before is like an adventure. Unfortunately many a wineyard owner is courageus enough to make wine which is of a different elk but everything else connected to these new wines is still wearing yesterday's suits and skirts. Why is that? Whatever the answer to that question is, the plain fact is that only a few chais or bodegas taste like the wine made inside. Books like this are good in making people understand what relation there is between the wine and the way its home looks.
Book Description
Using over 155 step-by-step photographs and many inspirational examples, Michael Bossom shows how to paint a whole range of stunning pictures - vibrant flowers, incredible fantasy scenes, tranquil landscapes and luminous abstract designs. Different surfaces can be used including wood, rigid board, absorbent and sealed card, foil, and smooth, textured and tissue paper. Images can be transferred on to fabric which can then be overpainted, or embroidered and embellished with beads and collage. There are so many ways to use the pastel, bold, bright and metallic colours - the free flowing wax melts magically into patterns, borders and intricate designs or skies, trees, lakes and mountains. Each painting is unique and original and a whole range of cards and gifts can be make quickly and simply.

The Encaustic Art Project Book.......2006-07-25
Awesome Book. Will use this one over and over again. Followed the tutorials, and my 2nd practice piece turned out well enough that I felt comfortable posting my creation on-line to one of my groups. Michael Bossom is a very talented encaustic artist, whose style is very user friendly. I highly recommend this book to artists who are eager to venture into the world of encaustic art. Recommend this one to all my friends, some of whom have also purchased this book. All have emailed me with positive feedback, and are just as happy with it as I am.
Disappointed.......2006-04-10
Mattera's book on encaustic seems to be the only good book out there on encaustic technique right now. Bossom's books are a step up from making melted crayon art in elementary school. I hate to be so rude, but the books are really not about encaustic painting, but about doing something with an iron and wax, and making one very particular style of art. Unless you want to make pictures just like Bossom's, this book is not in the least helpful. I write this review as a painter who uses encaustic techniques, so I feel I have some credentials to make such a harsh judgement.
A Limited Scope.......2004-09-08
This is not a book for the serious artist; this is a book for someone searching for a unique hobby. Contained within are simplistic descriptions of the author's naive and limited techniques (he creates crafts, not pieces of art). He combines these instructions with over-simplified rules of composition and space. Furthermore, Bossom hardly explores the dangerous potentiality encaustic presents, which I think is negligent. For a better insight view Mattera's "The Art of Encaustic Painting."

Book Description
A Barbie Spectacular on the eve of her fortieth birthday.
The early and rare Barbie--in 75 ravishing photographs. Barbie as she was meant to be seen and celebrated, clothed in Mattel's now rare ensembles inspired by the original designs of the great couturiers--Chanel, Givenchy, Dior, Balenciaga--and brilliantly photographed by David Levinthal, the foremost toy photographer at work today.
The incomparable Barbie--Barbie Millicent Roberts--was born in 1959 in the heyday of haute couture. But Barbie has always been at the center of style. No woman alive has kept up with the latest fashion of the day as Barbie has, with the perfect ensemble for every occasion: a night at the ballet, her first date, a festive barbecue, an afternoon at the beach, a day at the office, a Saturday matinee, her wedding day. And each has been perfectly accessorized: shoes, pocketbooks, long gloves, a fur stole, sunglasses, a beach bag, a single strand of pearls.
No other book about Barbie shows her as she is seen here, in breathtaking image after image--her hair, her accessories, her clothes, styled to perfection. The essential Barbie, as she was meant to look to the millions who have seen in her the embodiment of their dream of beauty and glamour, has been brilliantly captured by David Levinthal, whose photographs have been exhibited and admired around the world.
With a preface by Valerie Steele.
Customer Reviews:
FAB-O!!!.......1999-06-08
I loved this book. Barbie looks "tres chouette" in all of her outfits. There are some pictures where Barbie looks exactly like Samantha Stevens from the TV show, BEWITCHED. And there are times where she looks a lot like Mary Tyler Moore. All of the outfits were so carefully crafted and assembled. I love how they use to ahve little metal zippers for the dresses. Now, that's quality!!! It's a fantastic source for fashion inspiration.

Many smiles.......1999-07-15
I have used this book as a frequent resource for patients who are undergoing cancer treatment. I use it with the staff when the need arises. The many different cartoons always bring a smile or two.

Book Description
For twenty-eight years Sandra Oaks taught five, six, and seven year olds. She laughed with them; she cried with them; she prayed for them; and she kept a journal of her experiences. PLEASE DON'T EAT THE CRABAPPLES is a reflection of the laughter, tears and prayers reflected in her journal. These wonderfully poignant vignettes vividly portray one kindergarten teacher's interactions with a wide diversity of students. At times you will laugh and at times you will cry as her experiences find their ways into your heart. This book gives a realistic look at both the difficulties and joys teachers of young children deal with on a daily basis. Teachers are caregivers who impart not only knowledge, but who also nurture those given to their care according to their personal needs. It is one of the most important tasks any adult can aspire to achieve. Here is a inside view at how a praying teacher gets through the day with her twenty-five plus students while maintaining not only her sanity, but her sense of humor as well. Once you begin reading, you won't put the book down until you are finished.

Customer Reviews:
Our baby.......2002-02-06
This book is excellent. It is well written and illustrated.
Easy to follow instructions and covers all subjects that new moms might be concerned about.
I have not even delived my baby yet and this is the book I have turned to the most. Especially when I get scared and wonder if I will be able to handle it all. This book will put you at ease with its loving and down to earth tone. Most books on pregnancy and post delivery make you feel even more scared with their need for perfection. This author has found a way to anwser all questions without making you feel bad.
Very good tips for moms after delivery. ( vitamin cocktail)
Also includes fathers.
An excellent book filled with so much complete information!.......1999-02-15
From changing diapers to ear aches, this book covers it all. My husband and I have really appreciated all the information this book contains. We use it for any and all the questions we have about our little girl. I recommend this for all new parents and parents-to-be.
This is a great book for new parents!.......1998-09-07
This book focuses on the care of the baby as well as all of the issues of new parents. It has excellent diets and exercises, and it guides one through the emotions of new parenthood. My husband loves to read the sections devoted to new fathers. Our Baby: The First Year is a gem and should be read by all new parents.
An incredibly useful book for first time parents: a must buy.......1998-08-23
This is an outstanding book for new (or soon to be) fathers and mothers. It has extensive medical material but also is very contemporary in regard to parenting issues. The father's role, as explained repeatedly in the book, is important. I think this is a must book for all new parents. We thoroughly enjoyed it!
Clearly the best in the field.......1998-08-21
What a wonderful book for new parents. This well written and warm book is authoritative, has lots of beautiful charts and pictures and concentrates on the first year. Fathers are very important and this book reinforces it. I have seen all of the others, and this one is clearly the best. This is a must read!
Book Description
Are democracies less likely to go to war than other kinds of states? This question is of tremendous importance in both academic and policy-making circles and one that has been debated by political scientists for years. The Clinton administration, in particular, has argued that the United States should endeavor to promote democracy around the world. This timely reader includes some of the most influential articles in the debate that have appeared in the journal International Security during the past two years, adding two seminal pieces published elsewhere to make a more balanced and complete collection, suitable for classroom use.
Customer Reviews:
It can't get any better than this.......2001-11-14
In essense, this is a response to the prior review. I agree with everything but the last line which I will paraphrase: what has been said has been said about the democratic peace proposition and theorists need to move on. The last chapter of this book, contributed by Michael Doyle, outlines future paths that research of the DPT can continue, and considering that the U.S. government emphasizes the development of democracy in many of its foreign policy endeavers, sometimes with out success, it is imperative that more work be continued. This collaboration of essays provides an excellent starting point understand the debate, but further analysis is continuing. If you are intersted in the DPT, DO NOT END HERE!
The Best Guide to the Debate.......1999-09-05
Since the publication of Michael Doyle's piece on Liberalism and Democracy in 1983, the debate over the democratic piece has been one of the most vigorous in the field of International Relations. This volume includes all the major works on the subject, including Doyle's original piece, as well as his latest thinking. Also included are John Owen's perceptual explanation of the democratic piece, and David Spiro's brilliant quantitative critique of it. For those looking to understand the debate, it is clearly the best body of work yet in print. The only drawback is that the debate seems to be tapped out; there is little new to contribute, and some feel enough has been said already and we need to move in directions.
