I Call It My Materials Bible!.......2006-03-26

When I first bought this book it was fairly unique and filled with incredible products that no one had even heard of! Even a few years later, it still produces ohhhs and ahhhs when I show it to my architecture students. Some of the websites they referred to didn't work but overall I can't say enough about this book.

Excellent Resource for Learning Use of Light in Watercolor .......2006-03-30

Unfortunately this wonderful book is OP. I had the wonderful opportunity to attend a workshop/demonstration by the author and what a talent and excellent teacher and this title is equally excellent. Well thought out and explained with useful demonstrations. Judy Morris shows you how to see light and shadow. I have purchased other books on the same topic and Judy's tomb tops them all.

As a new watercolorist, I have a very serious problem about seeing light and shadow. No matter how my instructor tried to point them out. I hardly see and paint. After reading this book, my eyes are just opened and bring me to a new way of seeing light and shadow. I now understand what to look for and how to improve my rather 'flat' painting.

The explanation, samples, and instruction in this book are very useful, easy to follow, and practical. I would definitely, highly recommend this book to whom has problem of seeing or understanding nature of LIGHT.

Light in the Watercolor World.......2001-01-14

I read the book from start to end as soon as I got it in the mail and then again a couple of days later. It was so informative and has some excellent examples of what the author is describing verbally. The exercises are easy to follow and you learn so much from doing the exercises. I am enjoying the book very much and am looking for more from this author. Easy to read and understand but each time that I read it, I discovered more tidbits of knowledge. I probably would not recommend this book to advanced watercolorists but it was just PERFECT for my needs since I only just started the conversion from oil to watercolor.

Chinkok Tan has painted and taught for more than 40 years. In Watercolor Basics: Shape and Light Value, he shows the art student how to see and simplify one's subjects. I bought two copies of this book on Amazon...one for myself and one as a gift. This is a great coffee table book on Chihuahuas! The book presents several pages of full-page photos on each Chi and features them doing their favorite things (hanging out at Venice Beach, being a co-pilot of their owner's plane, visiting Hollywood,etc.) Montrose, a professional photographer, has a knack for capturing the vibrant personalities of each dog. The photos are artsy, funky, and fun! Definitely not your typical book on dogs in which every picture is posed. I would definitely recommend this for any Chihuahua fan!

This book makes a fabulous gift for all people who love Chihuahuas! The author, a professional photographer, does a superb job of showcasing the personalities and adventures of these adorable "carry-ons." The photographs are artistic, edgy, and fun! Unlike most other pet books, this one is prime coffee table material! Several full-color pages are devoted to each pooch hanging out in their favorite haunting grounds (Venice Beach, a flat in Paris, the laundromat, cockpit of a plane, etc.). A volume of (mostly)amusing quotes and engaging nuggets about hubbys and wives, guys and gals ... dating and mating, sexing, marrying, honeymooning and divorcing. You've read them all before (the quotes have been lifted from other books and published interviews, and many taken out of context), so think twice before saying "I do" when the sales clerk asks, "Do you really want to buy this?"

Variation on a theme.......2002-04-06

I can recommend this book for a statistical reference and a factual source. The image are fairly good and some are really new, since they show the assault gun in factories and in dismantle view. You can follow the development of the assault gun even to the slihtest detail. In that optic this book is aim at the modeller and the detail devotee.

And what really, really bug me with all the Schiffer Military books is that they use a old Typo and that mainly all the photography and schema have poor description and use a even worst Typo. It could sound odd, but when you read a manual like this, you dont want to be stress by the Typo.

Dont go for this book if you want a photographic reference and avoid at all cost this book if you intend to entertain yourself.

Excellent Overview of the German Assault Gun.......2000-12-17

The book covers self-propelled assault artillery used by the Germans in World War Two. The Germans first created the Sturmgeschutz as a cheap fire support vehicle for the infantry, but it soon became a mount for long-barreled, high-velocity antitank guns. The first chapter covers prewar experiments, but the bulk of the book is devoted to the Sturmgeschutz based on the Panzer III chassis, and each production variant gets a chapter. The Sturmgeschutz IV, based on the Panzer IV chassis, is also covered, as are the self-propelled 105 mm and 150 mm assault howitzers on the Panzer III chassis. There are also bonus chapters covering antiaircraft vehicles, halftracks, and recovery vehicles used by Sturmgeschutz units. The technical history is well-balanced, offering information for both the model builder and the automotive engineer, and the three-view drawings and cutaways by Hilary Louis Doyle are to the modeller's scale of 1/35th. Though the title was one of the first of Walter Spielberger's books to be translated into English, it is actually one of his most recent books, and is far superior to the Panzer III, Panzer IV, and Panther books. This was also one of his last collaborations with researcher Thomas Jentz, and the style is almost identical to that of Jentz's own series of books on German armor (also published by Schiffer).

Good addition to a collection.......2000-04-08

I enjoy reading this book very much. Speilberger has written a good history of the assualt gun sturmgeshutz. Included are a lot of excellent, high quality photos, line drawings, a history of the development of the assualt gun, the varients to the stug as well as support vehicles.

Also of interest are sections on the factories, subcontractors where the vehicles were made, operational information written by the crews who used these turretless tanks.

What would have made this better? A bit more detail, but not all of the line drawing information was translated from German, so something is lost there. Some of the drawings were used in other Speilberger works, but I still highly recommend this work.

Good Historical Survey.......2002-04-26

I found Bieder's book to be a very good survey of Wisconsin Indian cultures and the extraordinary pressures they have been under during the last 400 years. Wisconsin Indian history is unique and the author presented the story in a well-written, interesting manner. My only complaint would be the exclusion of the events of the last 30-40 years, leaving the reader with a gap to fill from other sources.

Im sorry this book, has to be one of the most boring books ever required to be read by any professor. I found it to be full of information, but nothing tieing all this information together. If you like alot of information about WI Indian Tribes, this would be a book for you, but if you are interested in casual reading about Indian Tribes in WI, Pass on this one.
