Great Ideas for decorating.......2007-04-10

Since we live in the southwest, but don't particularly want to decorate SWestern ..I like this book because it uses the same materials found here but in a different way... Wood, stone, tile..flagstone for the patios..
They use simple uncluttered lines in their decor inside and out..
There is a type of tranquility built in. Something we look for in this complicated world.

EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS!.......2007-01-23

What a great book! The author Elizabeth Minchilli has done has superb job in creating this wonderful book. Although she's not Italian, she now lives in Italy after marrying an Italian architect. Her love and passion for Italy is obvious and the wealth of information that she has gathered is priceless to anyone thinking or planning to buy and/or restore a home in Italy. Her informative writing is beautifully coupled with fantastic photos from the well known photographer Simon McBride. The setting of some of these homes is spectacular! There are many books out there on Italy, but this is truly a must for any fan of Italy or old rural architecture. I highly recommend this book even if you don't have any intention in restoring a home in Italy.

After our house burned in San Diego county, during the waiting time for the insurance company, the architect, the engineer, and the city approval, we purchansed MANY books on Tuscan design and architecture, as that is the style we want to emulate. Restoring a Home in Italy provided may examples that helped us though the selection process.

What a book!.......2002-02-17

While this book may look more like a coffee table piece - and it could very well be - I read it cover to cover. The stories were very informative, telling of the beauty and the challenges of restoring one of these fine homes. After each of the functional sections there was a great write up on the details of the topic, such as; roofing, swimming pools, heating, etc. Naturally, you can tell I loved it and would recommend it to anyone interested in fine Italian home. I hope the author reads this and realized what a great job she did. ....

Cant see the optical illusions.......2006-11-28

I can't see the optical illusions when I color my designs. I can see the one on the front cover though. I conclude that maybe I'm just not coloring them right, and I need to use shading techniques or light and dark hues, like the one on the cover.

Overall, interesting designs but I don't like how some of the designs cut off kind of awkwardly. For example, theres a pattern and it just cuts off at the margins instead of completing the figures/lines so that some lines just lead nowhere. It's a minor issue, it probably isn't something that would bother most people.

Great summary for a workshop with assignments.......2003-03-17

This small book summarizes almost everything the begginer to intermediate available light photographer needs to know (zone system not included - buy Adams "The Negative"), and includes several technical tables, understandably mentioning only Kodak products. It's pleasant to find a book that describes what I have been using for years without having read it before.

Not very impressive.......1999-08-09

This books explains the very basic knowledge of available-light photography, like when and how to use a tripod. Additional information is given about how to choose and use the right (Kodak-) film for specific situations. Thus I can recommend this book only to beginners in this field or people with their own lab. The photographs in this book are old and not very impressive.

Excellent.......1999-06-14

Although the example pictures look like they were taken quiet some time ago, this book is very up-to-date in my opinion. I've searched through the book stores, and I think that this is the best guide for this particular topic. Easy to read, good examples, etc., "suggested exposure settings" table that comes with it, is very useful for a beginner like me.

Increadebly funny, especcially if you work at an office........2003-12-17

This collection has a Far Side comic strip by the infamous Gary Larson in each week in a calendar, so theres around 52 strips, all in color. Most of the jokes here are work jokes or animal jokes and somewhat inbetween. The jokes in it are histeracly funny and you will enjoy everybit of this calendar, which to say is nice and has enough space to put notes and a telephone area on the last page (just so you know that its just not the strips your getting here). Highly recomended for Far Side fans (and dont forget the two book complete collection!)

A good way to start the day.......2003-10-18

Since the FarSide isnt in newspapers anymore this is a great way to enjoy Larson's humor. Always great, always funny. A nice way to get through the day.

Don't get fooled like I did, this is not a day by day stand-up desk calendar as in the past. This is a book that has 1 page per week and not the usual stand-up desk calendar as was expected.

degrading view of a most hospitable area of the world.......1999-05-09

having family that were born in egypt and having visited and lived in egypt myself, i foudn this book to be a very degrading view of the egyptians and sudanese. yes, they are simple people by our standards but their hearts, words and actions more than make up for this. their lifestyle is one that we perhaps should look at adapting ourselves to rather and making fun of or simply marking primative. whilst i found this book had some interesting sections, on the whole i was rather embarrassed that a fellow aussie would have so little heart.
