Good resource book.......2002-01-18
The first thing noticable about this book is the steep price. At almost a hundred dollars, you're going to think twice before you venture into buying another book about golf. This however is not just another book about golf, if you're looking for a pictorial about nice looking golf courses this is not what you need. If you're looking for information (and pictures) on how can a designer, planner or developer go wrong while planning, building or operating a golf course then you're going to find a lot of useful information and illustrations. I think this book is more about how not to do it. This really makes it different from other books available in the market. The audience for this will be golf course designers and managers and ennvironmentalists, and the theme is managing golf course developments with minimum environmental impacts. The book is written in an easy to read language, and is not made complicated, which is good, keeping in mind that its audience will probably come from different backgrounds. If I am teaching a course on environmental issues as they relate to golf courses this would be my pick. For this price however, I would have expected the illustrations and pictures inside to be in color! This is a new book so it reads and looks fresh, I will take one star off for the 100 dollar tag and keep 4 stars for the content.

I use this book at school for a class called "golf course organization and maintenace." It is geared directly to golf courses. The fact of the matter is that it covers every imaginable aspect of golf course maintenance and operations, and I do mean everything. In my opinion there is no other book more valuable for persons training to be golf course superintendents. If your already a superintendent I'm sure it would still be a wise decision to purchase this book.

Great as in showing 'how Szabo does it.'.......2003-01-24
This book cannot replace the Michael Wilcox's Blue and Yellow Don't Make Green in terms of basic completeness, clarity, and universal applicability. It's more of an idiosyncratic look at how one artist makes use of his paint choices. You will come away seeing how Szabo does it, but its applicability in a *general" way is severely limited. That being said, the book is a great instruction book. Every painting (one every 2 pages) has step by step instruction and the ideas he has for using only 5 pigments max per painting are excellent.
Very Informative About Pigments & Colors.......2002-10-17
I have the hard cover edition. This is an excellent color book for learning and reviewing watercolor pigments & paints. This book illistrates how to use these pigments and paints in various watercolor works of art. The properties of each color are thoroughly explained with printed samples of the color and the complementary color shown. Also the other colors that work well with each pigment are shown, along with a sample of a successful work of art containing these colors. I'm very glad to add this to my library of watercolor books.

This is an outstanding baseball book for all ages. Our son and his boys absolutely loved looking at the older players and stories to go along with the pictures. It is knowledgable and enjoyable.

If you love baseball, you must own Classic Baseball. This is a superb collection of baseball photographs by the legendary sports photographer Walter Iooss, Jr. with commentary by Dave Anderson, a winner of the Pulitzer Prize. Everyone is here, all the greats from Maris and Mantle to McGwire and Bonds, along with a host of lesser known players. The photos are simply breathtaking and make you feel you are at the ballpark. All you need is an ice cold beer and a bag of peanuts and you'll feel right at home. A great book and a great gift idea for anyone who loves the game of baseball.

In the early sixtees American networks started looking for cameramen to cover the military events in Vietnam and the Dominican Republic. CBS News hired Carl Sorensen. He tells how, with Correspondent Dan Rather, he survived an attack by a Vietnamese fighter plane and how a Vietnamese helicopter dropped Morley Safer and Sorensen into a combat zone leaving them covered to their necks in a swamp with muddy waters. In Cambodia, two Khmer Rouge cadres surprised Correspondent Bert Quint, Sorensen and Soundman Patrick Forest, wounding Forest.
The author describes vividly how the Mexican Army in 1968 attacked the Plaza of the Three Cultures killing defenseless students and onlookers, and how a colonel smashed Sorensen¡¯s camera lens and threatened to kill the CBS team. During the Cyprus conflict Turkish jets attacked the Nicosia Hilton Hotel wounding the author with a rocket fragment. In Iran, Sorensen was arrested by the Islamic Committee guards and put in prison accuse of being an American spy. He also covered Pope John Paul II traveling in search of love and peace receiving enough papal blessings to last a lifetime.

From Danish merchant seaman to the Mexican movie industry and, for three decades, one of broadcast journalism's top combat cameraman, Carl Sorensen covered some of the toughest and most meaningful stories of the late 20th century. Latin America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, wherever hot news was breaking, Sorensen was there, armed with camera, a good memory and a sly sense of humor. His book tells of some of the leaders and the lowlifes he met. It's a book for historians, students, arm chair adventurers and anyone who likes a good story about real people and real events.

Rights language is a fundamental feature of the modern world. Virtually all significant social and political struggles are waged, and have been waged for over a century now, in terms of rights claims. In some ways, it is precisely the birth of modern rights language that ushers in modernity in terms of moral and political thought, and the struggle for a modern way of life seems for many synonymous with the fight for a universal recognition of equal, individual human rights. Where did modern rights language come from? What kinds of rights discourses is it rooted in?
