Customer Reviews:
Hotels & Resorts.......2007-01-18
Good primer for anyone interested in development of their first hotel. Good schematics and good general information. Nice index. Useful for learning terminology, which makes negotiating with saavy designers and construction people a lot easier. Could stand to be updated.
The (probably) Perfect book for the technical planning of any hotel........2006-12-09
This book includes all the technical and financial aspects of hotel design/planning. It is an essential book to have when designing any hotel as it contains all standard neccessities for all situations. It shows technical drawings and some info of many (successful) hotels around today. Including some financial statistics and images of these hotels, which are mainy the large hotel chains but also Low budget hotels. This is the most important info as we can learn the most from successful hotels and see why they are working.
Cons are that it is quite difficult to follow. Not clearly explaining what certain statistics are and it is not in a reader friendly format. The few black/white pictures are not important really... But this does not affect my rating of the book as it is not intended for actual learning, rather more 'knowing' essential technical aspects.
The book isn't what a lot of people see as design, aesthetics and visuals etc. It has nothing to do with interior decorating or contemporary design. Just to let you know if you dont already...
If you are or thinking to be a hotel designer/Architect or are in the hotel business, then this book is perfect. You need it to have a hotel that works.

With half of the text devoted to thorough coverage of the basics, this guide provides an excellent introduction to an increasingly popular medium. Polymer clay is readily available and easy to work with, but must first be prepared properly. New Ways explains everything from conditioning to adding texture to working with various tools to baking procedures. The second half offers 10 step-by-step projects, including boxes, picture frames, jar lids, and a variety of ornaments.
Customer Reviews:
good as a resource, not good as a project book.......2006-09-03
I was a bit disappointed in this book. This book showed some very nice projects, however, often only one item from the multi-itemed pictures was actually detailed in the book. So, if you flip through this book and think you're getting instructions on all the beautifully detailed projects that are pictured,- beware. It is usually the simplest item in the picture that actually has instructions included. For example: A beautifully elaborate "candy box" is shown with faux chocolates. The instructions for the box are not included, just the directions on how to push the brown PC into a candy mold to make the candies...
However, the author did a very thorough job of explaining the different types of PC on the market and detailing the properties and strengths of each. I do believe this is a valuable reference for all levels of PC artists. Her discussion on glues was also helpful. For this information, I have given the book 3 stars, but I think people should be aware of what they're buying.
Very disappointing book.......2005-05-03
I was eagerly waiting for this book to learn more techniques. 1/2 of the book is just explaining where polymer clay comes from and then jumps to projects that are not relative to what you just read. I don't recommended at all. Not even for beginners.
Exactly what I was looking for!.......2003-12-07
I am relatively new to polymer clays and was feeling abit overwhelmed not knowing what to do next. This book caught my eye after having looked at several books that were just abit too 'newbie'. Kris Richads bridged that gap between 'newbie' and what the heck do I do now phase with this well written book:) The basics section in part one was more than just basics, which was exactly what I was looking for and the projects in part two are simple but could be modified to the intermediate/semi-advanced with ease:):) All around great book and worth every red-cent:)
Disappointing.......2001-01-30
I was VERY disappointed with this book. This is for beginners. The title claims the techniques are new and it's the 'next generation.' Okay, so it's a few years old--but everthing in it has been written about before this came out. Directions are not complete. Ornaments are 'cutesy.' Get the Weekend Crafter book if you want good projects to learn techniques.
A must have for your Polymer Clay Library!.......2000-05-03
As a Polymer Clay artist and a person who tries to help many other people in real life and on the internet learn more and more about Polymer Clay, Kris Richards Book "New Ways with Polymer Clay" is on my SHORT LIST, of must have books for the PC beginner! If you have a question, you will get an answer from this book! Kris Richards has been writing about Polymer Clay for many years and all of her books give you a wonderful basis to build your knowledge of this incredible medium!

Book Description
1913. A Note of Introduction: This little story of The Happy Island has a place of its own in Mark Twain literature, in that it presents an idyllic picture of our philosopher-humorist in the serener days of his later life-a picture of which the author herself was a part. Mark Twain always loved Bermuda, from the first day of his first visit, to that last day of his final visit, when he sailed away with the shadows already gathering just ahead. Miss Wallace's story is a tender one, showing him still full of life and health, and of that gracious sympathy with childhood which was always one of his chief characteristics and added comfort to his later years. The world will be the better and Mark Twain's memory the sweeter for these gentle chapters.

Book Description
Until recently, dieticians and doctors believed that a high-carbohydrate, low-fat diet was the best way to lose weight. However, new data challenges this simplistic approach to weight loss and shows that such diets can not only undermine metabolism, but may even prompt fat storage. A new medical mindset suggests that controlling blood sugar by limiting the consumption of certain carbohydrates is much more crucial to weight management than previously thought. Moreover, the use of certain "carbohydrate blockers," which prevent the absorption of starch and sugar, can help to safely facilitate weight loss.

Dennis Chalker says "the greatest challenge offered by the U.S. military [is] to become a Navy SEAL." A former SEAL himself, Chalker tells of his life and times in one of the military's most elite units. Much of One Perfect Op describes the extensive training each SEAL goes through, not only to become a SEAL but to remain one: "Our training had been hard and dangerous for a reason: you train as you fight." And the training certainly was hazardous--Chalker describes how one of his teammates was killed during an exercise. About half the book goes by before Chalker sees his first real combat, during the invasion of Grenada in 1983. His unit was tasked with protecting the island's governor. He also saw action in Panama and on a number of other operations, though he often leaves out the names of places and dates because these remain classified. His career was certainly varied. He was once part of "Red Cell," a special SEAL team whose job was to play the part of terrorists and test the security of naval facilities. At another point, he stormed a hostile beach to help a family escape. His equipment included all the standard SEAL hardware--guns, night-vision goggles, etc.--as well as a baby carrier and pacifier. Richard Marcinko writes the introduction (Chalker served under him), and his fans will easily become Chalker's fans as well. --John Miller
Book Description
No elite military commando unit since the darkest days of Korea and Vietnam has a more storied history than the U.S. Navy SEALs, a stealth fighting force legendary for its abilities to wage covert war on sea, air, and land. Now former SEAL Command Master Chief Dennis "Snake" Chalker takes us deep inside the celebrated SEAL Team Six for an astonishing, firsthand look at the formation, preparation, and deployment of a crack detachment meticulously trained for an ongoing mission that has become essential to the survival of our nation: counterterrorism. When Dennis Chalker joined Army Airborne in the early 1970s he was, by his own admission, a fairly typical young man from the Midwest. After his initial tour of duty -- and a brief, unsatisfactory stint as a civilian -- he volunteered to be a candidate for "the Teams," elite Naval Special Forces units known for their "outside the envelope" approach to warfare and their ability to strike any target, no matter how heavily guarded or impossible to reach. After enduring BUD/S (Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL) training -- the most rigorous selection process ever devised -- Chalker rose rapidly through the ranks and was personally chosen by "Rogue Warrior" Richard Marcinko for a leadership role in Red Cell. Together they would push special operations warfare to a level it had never achieved before. From the Granada action to electrifying events in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, Chalker now describes in stunning detail previously classified operations in the war against global terrorism. And at the center of his riveting, compelling, and astonishingly honest account is one remarkable covert mission in which daring, timing, skill, and cunning worked in concert to accomplish what in SEALs parlance is known as a "perfect op": one in which enemy territory is successfully penetrated and the objective achieved without any evidence left behind to indicate that the SEALs were even there.Never before has a book given readers as spellbinding a look at the detailed inner workings of the U.S. Navy SEALs -- from a mission's planning and preparation to its successful completion. And never has there been a truer, more intimate portrait of the extraordinary brotherhood of warriors who today are on the front lines of the most devastating conflict of our age, the war that America must win.

Customer Reviews:
Disappointing.......2002-11-28
I was disappointed with this book. Firstly, all `real' missions with the exception of the Grenada invasion are described only in the vaguest terms, apparently to preserve operational secrets. It's lowers the drama and credibility when Chalker describes a mission without even naming the continent on which it took place. Even harmless details like how many SEALs where on a particular raiding team are absent from the accounts of `real' missions.
The breadth of the book is devoted to describing training missions that Team 6 undertook against U.S. Naval bases to test their security. Playing hide-and-seek with security guards and rent-a-cops in training exercises hardly makes for a riveting read.
Chalker also mentions in only passing his experience at SEAL training, or BUD/S, which in the hands of a real writer would easily be worthy of a full book itself. Predictably, he refuses to shed any light on the controversy that landed his mentor Richard Marcinko in jail.
And this isn't an emotional account. We have no real insight into what makes warriors like Chalker tick or the pressures they face. All we know about life outside the Teams is that they drank and brawled a lot. And, oh yet, he got a divorce. (That's almost the way Chalker described it.)
For a more thoughtful and profound look at what it takes to be a member of the U.S. Special Operations community, take a look at Mike Yon's Danger Close. To learn what it takes to become a SEAL, read The Warrior Elite. For an action-packed thriller, stick with one of Marcinko's books.
Good book, but leaves you wanting more..........2002-11-07
This is a good book regarding how Mr. Chalker got into and lived in the Seals. The drawback to it though is you know from reading the front cover he was part of Seal Team 6 (the Navy's elite counter-terrorist unit), therefore you expect to read more about them. He did offer insights into their lifestyles and how the job forced them to live. However, if you have read a lot of these books, the one thing you will look for them are actual "situations" to read about. Even if you have to change the "names and places", just tell us the story. Obviously with this being a relatively new group, many of the "stories" most likely remain classified. If there are not that many stories, then shame on the government for not utilizing the resources of the best trained units in the world. We all know there are places that they can be used. Mr. Chalker has written a good book that provides insight into his life in service and he should be commended for it.
good stories by one of rogue warrior's 'real team'.......2002-10-08
Well, I thought this book was a good read, and a good account of Chalkers career. I'll have to say the book was less detailed and obviously doesn't have the unique view of things that Marcinko did, but that doesn't lessen Chalkers' accomplishments. It was really cool to get another perspective on formation of Seal Team 6 and Red Cell, and also to compare accounts of Urgent Fury between One Perfect Op and Inside Delta Force.
As far as Inside Delta Force, the books do give the impression that ST6 was built more from the ground up and operating in a more balls to the wall manner than Delta Force, of course that doesn't change the fact that both units are the best in the world at what they do, and it goes without saying that there's alot that the books don't mention about the units' operations.
Another Point of View From Marcinko.......2002-10-06
Dennis is a SEAL with wider scope.
He was one of the paratroopers in 82 airborne.
Then he joined the SEAL, then Team Six and Red Cell.
After that he became a master chief and went back to instruct those tadpoles.
So you can see the Red Cell in his eyes.
Certain details he tried to explain deeper than Marcinko.
And all the tricks and fun they had together.
Besides that, you will also find out his love and devotion to the Team and Teammates.
The valuable experience he tried to show those tadpoles.
He combines The Spirit of an Old Navy Sailor and a Modern Warrior.
Trust me, once you read it, you`ll like it.
great guy - below average book.......2002-08-27
Book lacked detail. Author had some interesting experiences which he talked around but provided no depth. If you want a Seal book to read, try Marcinko's Rogue Warrior or Boehme's First Seal.
