Book Description
The Great Murals of Mexico's Baja California are one of the five greatest sites in the world for primitive rock art. They rank with those of southern France, northern Spain, northwest Africa, and outback Australia. These Great Murals, created by an unknown people, are without doubt the most distinctive trove of rock art in the Western Hemisphere. The site was unveiled to the modern world in the 1960s by adventure/mystery writer Erle Stanley Gardner who brought in UCLA archaeologist Clement Meighan to validate the importance of his find. But it was not until the 1970s, when author/photographer Harry W. Crosby undertook a systematic search for the largely unknown works hidden in the mountains of central Baja that the scope and significance of the find became known. He documented his search and discovery of over 200 previously unreported rock art sites leading to the original publication of The Cave Paintings of Baja California by Copley Books in 1975 which first introduced this cave art to the general public. Since that time, Baja California's Great Murals have been designated a United Nations Heritage Site.
This lavishly illustrated full-color account is greatly revised and expanded from the original edition and offers Crosby's unique perspective on the painted sites and painting styles found in different parts of the Great Mural area. Crosby's explorations, studies and writings since his original forays into the mountains of central Baja California have established him as one of the foremost authorities on Baja California's colorful past. This is the most complete treatment of this world-class archaeological site currently available.
Every year, more and more professional researchers, rock art aficionados, and curious tourists visit the caves and rock shelters of Baja California. To them as well as the armchair traveler, this is an invaluable reference work, field guide and adventure narrative to the magnificent art that survives on this rugged peninsula. Happy trails.......2007-02-28
I got this book for the pictures and as a guide and for that end it has served my purpose quite well. Since Baja is my "backyard" I wanted to further my explorations of the penisnsula. Having seen some pictographs prior to this book I found the book very helpful for seeking out those most remote locations. As a travelogue I found the book dry and rather unexciting, but some might find it interesting over the camp fire. To it's credit the photographs are spectacular, as are the drawings and maps. The historical information is informative but again rather bland in it's presentation. The color maps presented prior to each detailed chapter are outstanding for your own personal explorations. There is one overview map of the general mural region that is good for the book but not for real life exploration. I would suggest picking up a good map of Baja along with this book prior to any explorations of your own. This book serves as an excellent guide and is recommended by this veteran Baja traveller.
Baja has nice Pictographs!.......1999-01-08
Crosby has an encyclopedic knowledge of the area. Based on many years of travel in the peninsula, this magnificently illustrated volume not only provides information on visiting the primary pictograph sites of central Baja, but also provides memorable insights to the contemporary human culture of the area. Highly recommended for anyone interested in prehistoric art of Southwestern America, particularly the Cochiti peoples.

for three winters my wife and i searched for and found many of the painted sites crosby catalouged.some of the sites were disappointing but some were outstanding. without crosbys book a good spanish dictionary and atlas of baja it would be impossible to find any of these exciting paintings. this was a quest fulfilled thanks harry.......

This book serves as a constant source of inspiration. It contains many samples of excellent design work. The book is split up into five sections: Posters, Editorial Designs, CD & Music Graphics, Brochures and Business Collateral so you can find the kind of work you want to see quickly. The work is inspiring and one of the greatest features is the information provided on each piece of artwork. The book lists the size, colors, clients, artists/designers, and the fonts used in the piece. I am always curious to see which fonts are used by other designers and this book provides that. I love this feature! If you see a font you like you can then hunt it down and buy it. Very cool. Very useful.

Great for kids and adults to share.......2002-01-23
I bought this book because my two-year old son loves trucks, but I was going crazy reading the same kid's books over and over. What's more, spending so much time reading and talking about trucks made me curious too. I bought Colossal Earthmovers so that my son and I could share a book we'd both enjoy, and it's been great. He loves the pictures (which usually include a person in them, giving a good sense of scale). We just had a few parents and toddlers over this week, and the book was the center of attention.
If you're looking for a book that kids and adults will enjoy, this is a great choice.

To any one who loves the big machines this book is a must have.
Keith Hoddock has got to be one of the premier authors on this subject. Keith has 10 chapters of some of the best writing on earthmovers that you can find. There are numerous pictures from B&W to color, that show all the different types of machines being discussed.
This book is also loaded with facts and figures about different machines and manufacturers that make it a very good reference guide.
This book will make a fine addition to any earthmoving library.

Rufferto and Groo go together, well, like nothing has gone together before, and likely never will again. Why does a reasonably intelligent dog decided to take up with a mouth breathing barbarian named Groo? Here we can see why, as the famously loyal canine meets his serv.. err.. master. This is bad for very many people not named Groo or Rufferto.

I am a great fan of Sergio. I have his mini series Space Circus published by Dark Horse Comics. Too bad the Groo regular series is discontinued but fortunately Dark Horse reprinted some of the cool back issues. If I have enough money, I will probably get all the trade paperbacks. I managed to get this title only but it worths every kopins you paid for it. It is time to fray. Cheers.
A man and his dog (who's smarter than he is).......2002-11-03
Groo Houndbook
As should be obvious, this is where Groo the most feared barbarian in the world (feared by everyone who knows his name and face!) meets his trusty sidekick Ruferto, a dog smarter than he is. Fleeing a pampered life into the chaotic life that Groo brings about, Ruferto and his new companion encounter Pal and Drum, the schemers who cut an arms deal with Groo. Of course, they've never learned that the best deal to cut with Groo is to RUN FOR THE HILLS! Groo gets wealthy through no fault of his own and winds up penniless as usual.
Note: the printing quality is generally okay to very good for the series, but this is generally a collection for Groo fans and comic book fans. The binding on some of my copies is broken (these are soft backs) and the print is now and then not the greatest. As a fan, I bought every collection I could, and enjoy them despite this! Not though for long-term pristine collectors though.
Sergio Aragone's the Groo Houndbook.......2000-03-30
Sergio's work with MAD is famous. Yet this Groo Houndbook content a beautiful plot combined with our hero that can "manage" to destroy anything.
This 9-12 yrs rated comic attracts me very much [20+], btw, this one's a very good book to be read and enjoy. Using rasterized color image is another attraction of this book in the abundance of advanced computer coloring comics.

A well-written, nicely organized basic introduction and self-help guide written from the perspective of a physician suffering from Parkinson's Disease (PD). This paperback manual explores both the physical and mental sides of dealing with a chronic, devastating illness. It provides strategies and tips for both the sufferer and the caregiver. My only reservation is that, at times, I wished the author would have provided more detailed information on specific, recommended techniques designed to aid the patient. Highly recommended reading.
Light Informative Reading.......2000-01-07
"Understanding Parkinson's Disease" is a well-written book introducing a patient to life as a Parkinson's patient. I purchased this book to pre-screen it for my parents and found that it was a good book to give them because of it's positive discussion about the disease. If you know a Parkinson's patient who refuses to read up about the disease (because they don't want to read about all the restrictions they will have to face in their future) this is a good "first" book. The "Self Help Guide" has a pro-active upbeat approach to working with the disease. It doesn't spend a lot of time belaboring how miserable the future will be, but focuses on how to deal with the present. Since Dr. Cram has Parkinson's Disease himself his viewpoints about the disease help give credibility and enlightenment to the reader. This book summarized all aspects of the disease while showing how to live with the symptoms. It is a good starter book for preparing to live with Parkinson's Disease. Purchase "Caring for the Parkinson patient" by Hutton for a more in-depth review of Parkinson's and how to live (or care for someone) with the disease.
Finally...A plain speaking book about Parkinson's Disease.......1999-06-07
Dr. David Cram has written a very touching and informative book about Parkinson's Disease that I encourage anyone who has been diagnosed with PD or who knows someone who has been diagnosed with PD to check out. Dr. Cram who was dianosed ten years ago with PD writes from personal knowledge and covers everything from symptoms to the newest drug therapies. I also enjoyed the comments interspersed throughout the book from patients, physicians, nurses, counselors and therapists. This is a very encouraging book and I recommend it highly!

A neurologist's opinion of Coping with Parkinson's Disease.......2000-12-04
I am a neurologist who cares for people with Parkinson's disease. Eric Morgan has written a thought-provoking book that educated me and that I would recommend to many of my patients. His observation that coping with the disease requires both optimal medical treatment and optimal self-care is particularly valuable. He realizes that with both of these he can not completely control his illness but can greatly improve the quality of his daily life. My only hesitation in recommending this book to those with Parkinson's disease is that his illness has been a particularly trying one, and many patients with Parkinson's do not experience the complications and tribulations that he describes. I would not want patients with mild Parkinson's to be discouraged by his experiences.

William Priest traces the evolution of each term or phrase as it moves from its point of origin to other branches of service and into foreign countries. For instance, in the 19th century a "swab" was a mop made from condemned rope; however, it was also the sailor's slang for naval officer, from the shoulder epaulets (a mop-like braid) that marked an officer's rank. At that time, to call a sailor a swab was one of the highest forms of insult; it was not until the 1880s that sailors were called swabs or swabbies (men who swab the decks) in general lingo.
