What a waste of money..........2003-04-05

I bought this book hoping for some good ideas and a little inspiration. Instead I got book full of so-called murals and tompe l'oeil that the average person would never use.

Some of the projects in this book are so rudimentary and plain ugly (including a Q-Bertesque wall) that I am embaressed to say I own this book. Yeesh!

How to Paint Murals if you are expierienced!!!.......2002-12-03

I purchaced this book to get another perspective on painting murals. I am a beginner and I found that only the mid to advanced artist, would enhance their ability to do murals. This book is not for beginners!!! I have since purchaced other books that deal with all levels from the beginner to the advanced and felt I could follow and learn more as I gain confidence and expierience. I have not opened the book since, Maybe in 5 years I may relate more to it. Sorry. JR

not what I was looking for.......2002-09-19

I purchased this book hoping to get some good pointers on how to move from landscape painting into the mural stage, but I found the book quite simplistic. It would be a great guide if you are wanting a fast, simple, stencil-look, but not for the serious artist.

How to Paint Murals, etc. by V. Ellerton.......2002-03-20

This book has lovely pictures - it definitely is helpful in determining how to paint certain types of simplistic murals, but is not detailed enough for intense scenes, skies, landscapes, etc. A good book to start out with if you are interested in how to paint murals.

How to paint murals and Trompe L'oeil.......2000-05-16

what makes this book special is the clear instructions on 1) color it shows you the colors on a pallete so there easy to match with any brand they even have a paint directory 2) the list of supplies are put clearly in a grey box in the corner of the page makes an easy shopping list 3) excellent pictures of tools in action 4) lots and lots of templates. History Instruction and Inspiration it's all there!

A worthwhile read that adds much to the subject.......2006-01-18

I take issue with the reviewer who criticizes Burns for his scholarship. This work has a clear, succinct purpose: To let the boycott participants on all sides of the issue tell the story themselves. Burns never intended for this work to be definitive, only elucidating, and it is that, and more.

This publication arose out of Burns' work editing the King papers at Stanford, spurred by a suggestion from senior editor Clayborne Carson. Burns masterfully edits and assembles the letters, interviews, transcripts of court actions, newspaper clippings, and other materials, adds just enough gloss for clear understanding, and gets out of the way. It takes skill, judgment, and respect for the sources to strike such a balance, and he gets it just right.

I'll take this approach any day over a tome by some windbag scholar who has digested the sources and wants to tell me what to think about this important, complex, seminal event in American history. Read the materials yourself, and do your own thinking. That's what Burns set out to accomplish, and in my opinion, he's hit the mark admirably. I highly recommend it.

Poor scholarship.......2002-07-28

This book is another example of "hands-off" scholarship in that it appears as if the editor never visited Montgomery but rather relied on secondary sources. Though there are numerous excerpts, the editor did not perform the necessary research which would have revealed (a) that the Boycott had its roots within the American labor movement and, more specfically, events which happened in Birmingham, Alabama, during the 1930s and (b) there probably still exists in the archives of the Montgomery Improvement Association or in at least one other place financial and other records not taken to the King Center which would have told an in-depth story using primary sources. In summary, in deciding whether to purchase this book---pass!

It's not bad for a book photographed in the "old" millennium.......2004-07-24

Since the Twenty-First Century did not really begin until a year later, the purpose of this book seems kind of erroneous. Despite this, the photographs are--for the most part--very pleasing. I was tempted to give it only 3 stars due to the juvenile miscalculations of when the century actually began and the fact that there is already an overabundance of "pretty" pictures in the world. Instead, I went with 4 stars. Hey, anybody can get drawn in by prettiness.

Fantastic Images.......2001-06-15

Daybreak 2000 is the result of a phenominal concept - a view of sunrise around the world on the same day. Most of the images in the book are some of the most impressive I have seen - from the breath of the Bald Eagle to the Chinese forests (such distinctive landscapes!).

The book starts at the international dateline and works its way west with the sun, showing the location of each shot with a rotating globe on each page.

While 01/01/00 may not be a requirement for such books, the fact that it prompted such a great work showing the beauty around the world makes it all worthwhile.

Disappointment with Daybreak 2000.......2001-04-10

Although the photos are excellent in Daybreak 2000,there is a static quality to the book, as there is with most landscape photography. Landscapes have been around for thousands of years and aren't likely to change at the new millennium. On the other hand, I agree with reviewer Tom Donadio,that Dawn of the 21st Century is a much better photographic essay of the new millennium. It shows people celebrating the new millennium as well as gorgeous once in a lifetime fireworks pictures. There is a broader range of pictures also, and comprises over 500 pictures from over 300 photographers, both pro and amateur. For my money, it's Dawn over Daybreak.

Very Nice - BUT there is a better book..........2001-04-04

Just was able to glance through my copy of Daybreak 2000. I must admit this is a truely great book with great photos. I only gave it 4 stars because there is another book out called "Dawn of the 21st Century" which has an extremely diversity of photos also taken as we entered the new Millennium. It has over 500 photos from 116 countries. It may be a little more money, but it is also a "Limited Edition" and I had added it to my library. Daybreak 2000 is a great book to have, but I'll pick "Dawn of the 21st Century" above it.

Great Effort.......2000-12-06

An unique effort to do something like this. Many of the photos are not that great after all but the point is: they were taken at the dawn of a new age. I just wish the publisher had increased the no. of entries twofold to really emphasize the significance.

5 stars for the tremendous effort but the deduct is for that fact that it's not really worldwide. After browsing it I thought it's for North America flora and fauna (flip a few pages here and there and you still see USA and Canada), with a bit from other continents till I bought it and realise it's meant to cover most regions of the world. Where's the greater part of Asia? and the Poles? South America? They could have invite those not in the team to submit photos that they lack, better luck next time but it will be another thousand years.

Excellent coffee table but once the reader grasp the idea behind it will also wonder like me.....where's the rest of the world?

Excellent resource.......2006-04-05

I bought this book a few years ago after being diagnosed with MVP. I read the personal stories and felt great sympathy for the people who were experiencing so many symptoms which I didn't have. However, in the past two years, I have experienced many new symptoms and this book has been so reassuring and helpful in giving me ideas about how to control them. I have found Dr. Scordo to have much more knowledge about MVP than any of the primary care physicians I have visited. This book has been immensely helpful to me and I would highly recommend it to anyone diagnosed with MVP.

At first I was a little concerned because of some of the negative reviews. But I did my research and found Dr. Scordo's information at the faculty site of her university. The book will speak for itself. It is excellent with excellent information. Love the stories of other people with MVPS and love all the helpful advice. I too am a teacher and appreciated the additional references in the book. Without any doubts, this is a great book for those who want to learn more about MVP!

I would like to correct some misinformation in the review posted by Louis in Alabama. The author has a PhD in Nursing, Cardiac Physiology, not an "unrelated field."

This book is the best one you can get on the market! She worked miracles when she led the MVP Syndrome Support group in Cincinnati! She is well educated, and I know she has a PHD in Cardiac Nursing! This book can be a life style saver, if you are willing to read it and apply the recomendations to your life. You can't go wrong with this book! It will validate everything you are experiencing! You will no longer feel like it is all in your head. Kris Scordo has studied, and worked with the MVP patients. You can't go wrong with this book!

Notice how the same 3 or 4 people keep writing 5 star reviews for this book? Some friends of "Doctor" Scordo perhaps? You should know that Dr. Scordo is not even a medical doctor. Save some money and try this book instead: Natural Therapies for Mitral Valve Prolapse by Ronald L. Hoffman.
