Great photos as there always is in the DK series. Takes the viewer from ancient Egypt to 1994 completion of the Osaka Airport designed by Piano. Great introduction to architecture.

Probably the only thing better than owning this book, would be to travel to all these locations with someone you absolutely loved and who absolutely had a love for life and architecture.

When viewing the pictures of the Leaning tower of Pisa, you also get to see the inside of the Pisa Cathedral and read about Romanesque vaulting.

My favorite site is the Notre-Dame, Paris. This is the most amazing Gothic cathedral ever and was well worth the bus ride to Paris! Unfortunately they don't have room to show you the interior, which is rather amazing in itself.

An exploration into human creativity. This book will make you want to travel the world to see these fascinating buildings in person. Just to imagine walking amongst all this inspiration makes one feel overwhelmingly alive.

Who would not want to walk along the stone-vaulted corridors in the Castle Drogo?

Every D-K book I have had the pleasure of reading has been a feast for the eyes as well as the mind. This one is no exception. I enjoyed it because it explores many famous structures as well as some which should be famous but are not. I knew little about architecture before I opened the book and so I learned a great deal and enjoyed every minute of it. I love this book!

Exciting new watercolor book!.......2001-06-22

I found Watercolor Fun and Free by Karlyn Holman an amazing help to me, a very beginning painter. I liked the pictures and descriptions of the materials I needed to paint as well as very descriptive instructions on how to plan and paint. I think what I liked most is her continuous sense of humor and play which made the book an entertaining and easy book to read in addition to being very helpful. I would highly recommend this book to any person looking to improve their watercolor painting skills.

This is the first exciting new painting book to come along in quite awhile. It is especially good in the area of non-objective and semi-abstract painting. There are also plenty of ideas to make your realistic paintings more unusual and personal. This is obviously written by an experienced painter and teacher who delights in exploring the possibilities. Get it, you will love it.

Read the book from cover to cover and immediately ordered the 3 videos available inside back cover. I can't wait to try some of Karlyn's techniques, it is a beautifully written and illustrated book. I sat right down and tried a couple of pages.

this book is unlike any photo book i've seen - from the photos within to the surface of the cover, it is a work of art. it's price of $50 and length of only 40 pages make my rating 4 instead of 5 stars, but the work itself is some of the best on the contemporary scene. for those intested in street photography, or color photography in general, this is a major work and a must have.

Horrible binding!! .......2006-01-30

The pages just fell out of the cover! And this was supposed to be hand printed. The title "Sightwalk" on the font cover was smeared. The red ink was all over the words and i had to look hard to tell that it said ""Sightwalk". VERY DISAPPOINTING. It made me wonder for a moment if this was a fake copy. And I'm still wondering.

The first thought I had after turning the last page of this beautiful book was "how can this author be almost unknown to the world?". Looking at Pinkhassov's photographs is a magical and mystical tour in the soul of Japan; every single picture deserves your attention to discover a subject almost hidden in an atmosphere of timeless beauty. The book itself is a beautiful object, but I think it deserves you discover it by yourself. I really hope we can have a new work of this artist as soon as possible.

A contemporary classic on the psychotherapy of depression.......1997-11-07

Psychiatrists Arieti and Bemporad have authored many articles on depression, and in this book present their views in a single comprehensive format. Their psychodynamic approach to depression emphasizes the roles of cognition and volition in this psychopathology, and dovetails nicely with Beck's cognitive theory of depression and Seligman's learned helplessness model of depression. Especially interesting is the authors' treatment of the relationship between characterological attributes, on one hand, and episodes of accute depression, on the other hand. Arieti's concepts of the dominant other and dominant goal are explicated in detail. Though written primarily for psychotherapists, this book is comprehensible to anyone of average intelligence and sufficient interest.

Feminist nonsense.......2005-09-15

This liberal tirade recounts the slow and insidious inroads made by radical feminism into our nation's military. As someone who has served in the military, I can personally testify to the damage women have caused by serving in combat-related positions. Unprecedented levels of divorce and adultery are two sad results of women working in a close environment with men under intense conditions. The author clearly has an immoral value system that places no regard for the families that have been ruined by mothers sent overseas, emasculated husbands, and the adultery/divorce that skyrocketed after women entered the service. Conservatives should save their money and read the much better book on the subject by Stephanie Gutmann, "A Kinder, Gentler, Military".

From a Air Force Airmans point of view........2001-10-26

I first purchased this book when I was serving in the Air Force overseas. I found it to be a clear and accurate account of what it is like to be a woman in the military. I was profoundly grateful that I was serving in a time where it was mainly whether or not I had the physical and mental qualifications to perform the job I was doing. I was (and in some ways still are) a avionics specialist, a job where I had to be tops in electronics yets still be able to lift avionics parts that weighed over 50 lbs over my head. I salute the women that came before me, paving the way, making advances so that I would consider it a matter of fact that I would be judged by my learned behaviors and not my sex. I think that if someone can do the job, physically and mentally, it should be allowed to them. It is sad to say that I still encountered those "women should be at home and not mucking about" in and out of the military but they did not bother me much, I set them straight using info from this book and my own personal experiance. This is a must read for any woman who wants to experiance our lives and way to push for true equality, judged only on capability and not blind religious dogma. Thank you General Holm (Ret.).

Women in the Military is Comprehensive and an Easy Read!.......2000-03-30

As the title of my review indicates, this book was extremely thorough in its history of women in the military. It recounts the evolution of women serving in the military as early as the Civil War (by disquising themselves as men); through the World Wars, where women became increasingly recognized as a crucial asset, serving as aviators and nearly every other specialty outside of direct combat. The book continues through the 1960s and 1970s as legislation made women a permanent component of the US Armed Forces and concludes with the most recent demonstration of "womanpower" in the Persian Gulf. Throughout the book Maj Gen (ret) Holm offers first hand experience and detailed facts and statistics of this difficult and exciting evolution. This combination makes it an enjoyable book, reading more like a novel than a history book. This is a history not often retold, but critical to understanding "Women in the Military."

Great start book ... but not complete.......2005-12-07

The book itself is very good for a semi-beginner. The three microcontroller families (HC11, AVR, 9051) are well described and so are the differences between them and the similarities. The first half of the book is dedicated to the description of the microcontrollers, while the second part is dedicated to some useful projects. The projects have some hardware explanations as well the software. The book is accompanied by a CD which has all the projects (hardware PCBs and ASM code).

The only thing i dont like in this book is that the hardware schematics are incomplete. The authors present some useful development boards, but as they dont have the values of all the components (although the PCBs are included on the CD and seem to be there for the reader to be able to build them at home), so the reader can not actually build any of this boards wich is a shame.
I supposed that a book with this price would have things like this done correctly, but appareantly i was wrong.
