An authoritative work .......2005-09-08

A very important work that includes both the Eritrean history and the architectural mystique and prominence of this otherwise unknown city.

I applaud the authors for helping to preserve Eritrea's architectural treasures, which stand as a true gem compared with the rest of the African continent. Outlined in the book are those that were spared from the marauding British and greedy Ethiopian invaders and withstood decades of war.

Excellent for the arm chair traveler and history buff.......2004-03-12

I spent several years living with my family in Asmara as a young boy. Now as an adult I've been searching for a book that would allow my to do some arm chair traveling back to my former home. Mr. Denison's book allowed me to do that in both word and picture. The book is broken up into a general history section followed by detailed photos on the major architecture of Asmara in each of the significant eras, and offers both vintage and current photographs and design plans of the buildings in the city.

Pagan's Rejoice!.......2002-07-25

This book practically drips with Pagan imagery. The mood and feel of the book is very much derived from where the book takes place, in Cornwall's desolate storm-lashed coast. The sea imagery is amazing, not as good as in Sea Dragon Heir, but that is only because of the locations being different. The landscape reflect the inner conflict of Shemyaza and is very appropriate because of this. This book reads faster that the first book or the trilogy and is even harder to put down because of the descriptive nature of Storm's Writing.

Like being on Neptune whit Aeschylus.......2001-09-23

This book is wonderful. Mixing ancient mythology whit modern Angst, creating an eerie feeling, when you realize that this uncanny fantasy might really say something on the real history of this world (like I felt whit the Wraeththu series). Shem is the disillusioned idealist, a Prometheus that,once freed,feels betrayed by his own people and by humanity,that he feels has abandoned him. Shemyaza and the Titan (a giant,a god,a...Nephilim?)Prometheus:both givers of forbidden knowledge to humans. Read Aeschilus' Prometheus Enchained, then you will notice some similarity whit Shemyaza's story.

Good, but not perfect........1999-10-20

I felt a bit let down reading this after _Stalking Tender Prey_, a book which left me with such high expectations. Constantine's talent for textured prose, distinctive characters, and gleefully ambiguous morality (and sexuality) are still evident, yet (to me) the neo-paganish mysticism introduced becomes overbearing to the point of distraction at times. Still, it was an entertaining read, and I plan on buying the third, final novel.

True to form - and still one of my favorites!.......1999-10-17

Finally got my hands on the sequel! The ending to Stalking tender Prey left me hanging a bit - but kept me looking for this one!

Storm's usual intricate character development is accentuated by the story line. Still a little homo-erotic, and appealing to the pagan in all of us.

A good read, and well worth my wait. Now if that third would just make it to the U.S.!!!

A wonderful history and an insightful tale.......2000-04-11

Paul Hallett, a convert to the faith, gives us a moving story of the 50 years he spent in Catholic journalism. The book, however, tells far more than his story.

It also tells the story of Catholicism in America and the creation of the National Catholic Register (a paper that once had a readership that numbered in the millions), and its growth under Monsignor Matthew Smith.

Through Hallett's eyes we are able to see the positive and negative changes that have taken place in the Church, especially since the Second Vatican Council.

As a National Catholic Register journalist myself I found this book extremely interesting. It holds great appeal for any Catholic journalist, and the average Catholic reader as well. It's a history worth reading.

This is a much-needed book that helps guide parents through many situations in current educational systems. The information about the controversy and possible motivations at work in special education placements is especially helpful. Resources, avenues for recourse, and the questioning and negotiation techniques given are all helpful in advocating for your child's educational needs.

Okay for an overview.......1998-06-12

This is a most helpful title, now the only one of its kind. Any parent looking for guidance would do well to start here. But the variations in school law, state by state, are huge. What's okay in Michigan could be illegal in Illinois. So the text is filled with exceptions. What's needed is state-specific information.

Also, the book lacks coverage of the interesting range of school choice options, and the complicated laws covering this phenomenon.

Good, but..........2003-04-28

While a fairly good overview of these 2 aircraft, the evaluation of their capabilities is more than a little "soviet" sounding. In other words these 2 development projects are described as the greatest things since sliced bread. A more objective and blunt account of their drawbacks would have made this a great book. With the extremely limited funding available and the isolated nature of these aircraft as weapons systems (as compared to the F22 which will be a fully integrated theatre weapon and probably the last US manned air superiority fighter) the compromises made by the Russian manufacturers are major and would be interesting to read about.

Excellent Book.......2002-07-16

Yefim Gordon discussed both the project history, prototypes, technical details (From Fuselage, Landing gear, control System... etc, basically everything), and a little bit about Russian's next-generation fighter's prospect and how US fighter projects affects Russian.

In sum, it's a good book. However, my friend (who is a die-hard fan of Russian aviation) told me that if you are already familiar with these two projects, you won't get anything new out of it except nice pictures. Personally I am very satisfied because I need a reference like this. So whether this book is for you will depend on how will you know Russian fighter projects.

Each stamp has a story to tell, and some of the most interesting are from countries that no longer exist. This book provides some history on each dead country. Perfect for those who specialize in this area or for the general foreign collector. If you want to know more about Bechuanaland, this book is for you.

Must have for Dead Country Collectors.......1999-06-12

I can't see why anyone would not find this book wonderfully intriguing and a great reference book. I can't say if there are many who are generalist collectors in dead countries, but I am. I consider it the most important philatelic bible (for my own particular collecting interests. ) And seeing that some traditional stamp shops don't have time to help a kid, a novice collector like myself, being able to buy this with ease is another plus. Have been collecting for sixteen years...three-quarters of my life, and this is the book I have been waiting for a very long time. Kudos to Mr. Harding for this book.
