Beautiful.......2006-08-04

This book offers beautiful examples of skies and clouds rendered in watercolor. It is worth keeping on the coffee-table just to look at and enjoy. In addition, it provides useful instruction, showing some of the techniques used to make some of the paintings. As indicated in the title, the techniques relate almost exclusively to watercolor, though the paintings themselves will inspire painters who use other media. This is a fine book.

I found this book to be more than just helpful for painting clouds . It actually takes you through step by step on mixing colors . Also , I found the painting techniques to be easy to understand . This book also shows different types of clouds and explains them in a very simple way . This book not only teaches you how to paint clouds step by step , but is full of color pictures showing beautifully painted sunsets , sunrises , and also has illistrations of different types of cloud formations which i found to be very helpful . This book is great for the beginner as well as profession artist . By far the best art book i have ever seen .

This book was a big disappointment! I always wanted to learn how to draw and paint clouds, so when I saw this book I was really excited. I am a novice in the field of Art and this book was no help whatsoever. It instructs you to perform certain drawing and painting techniques, but it doesn't tell you HOW to do them. This book may be good for someone who has previous experiences in Art, but for a beginner, like me, it's a big waste of time and money. :-(

Disappointing.......2004-02-27

Skies & Clouds by Richard Taylor is disappointing. Beginners should find the text instructive and techniques not intimidating, but the examples contain many errors (often according to his own advice) making them counter productive to the student aspiring to greater proficiency. The author demonstrates merely modest painting ability of the subject. Regretfully the lighting and shadows are not well rendered and contrast values are weak. His clouds are overly ephemeral with little structure. A watercolor of a "Sky and Sea" is the most convincing, because the waves of the sea are well rendered, but the sky is confused with fog and rays of light that look like rain. The book's purpose of being a "field guide" to aid in the artists perception of nature is good, but a more observant eye and commentary is desirable. The watercolors display visual paint textures but fall short of being inspiring Skies or Clouds.

Had me laughing like crazy..Great book!.......2004-01-11

I already had Jennifer Berman's 'Why Dogs Are Better Than Men' and when I saw this one, I had to get it. This book had me laughing so hard. She's very impartial like her last book. The book is divided into 3 parts - 1. Why Dogs Are Better Than Kids 2. Why Kids Are Better Than Dogs and 3. How Dogs and Kids Are The Same. We've got our dogs and in reading this book, I just kept looking at them and saying 'Exactly!'.

If you've got four-footed kids or want to know why there are those of us with four-footed kids, you have to pick up this book. Amazon has this book under their Search Inside feature - take a look. You'll be glad you did :)

A fun book for people who have dogs, kids or both!.......2000-12-10

To be honest, I almost did not buy this book because I felt someone might think I had something against kids. What a fun, pleasant surprise. The drawings and comparisons are funny and true to life. There are 3 parts to the book that the title does not allude to. The first part is Why Dogs are Better than Kids, the second part is Why Dogs and Kids are the Same, and the third part is Why Kids are Better than Dogs. It is a light hearted look at life. Something I think all people need from time to time.

Fantastic Find! I strongly reccommend this book!.......2004-09-07

I first found this book in my local library. It took me 2 weeks to read it. It is an easy read, but you need to set the book down in between chapters to fully digest it.

This book truly helped my family and me. We were at wits end trying to figure what was going on with my stepdaughter. We found no real understanding with the school, therapists or doctors. This book allows you to view your child objectively, in a more scientific manner, in order to help you figure how to help him/her.

The section that helped us, was the discussion of using medicine. We had all been against using any. This book shot down the myths surrounding the use of medicines. It mentioned that if your child had a PHYSICAL illness, headache or something more severe, you would have no problem giving them medicine. But many people get upset about using medicine to treat MENTAL illness. It's really for the same reasons -- to end your child's suffering.

Thanks to the use of medicine, our daughter finished school with excellent grades and we are actually looking forward to a new year of school!

Our child's behavior is not "cured", but thanks to this book, we are better advocates for her.

If you are at your wit's end and have not any luck finding help for your child through your school, your doctor or therapist -- this book is for you!
