Excellent Book- Very Helpful.......2000-04-23
This is an excellent book. It's very interesting and was the first book of it's kind that I have read. I gives color and light suggestions for different environments such as schools, office spaces, etc. It gives detailed scientific information about why these colors and types of light are good to use in these environments that is easy to understand. I think this book is a must have for all interior designers who care about the effects the environment they design will have on the people that will be in it!

Another interesting addition..........2002-10-23
Mysterious and mystical India has always drawn more than its share of the inquisitive travelers from around the world. That was especially the case after the invention of photography. Many photographers struggled to capture the unique aspects of India and its unsurpassed range of subject matter- ranging from its people and landscape to its events and architecture. By 1850s photography became popular enough to replace (in many instances) painting as a medium of choice for recording. Some rulers even added photographers to their retinue. In spite of the rush of photography during this time, very few pictures have survived and it is quite rare to find good quality samples.
This book is another interesting addition in the genre of books that capture the images of British India during the infancy of photography. It draws heavily from the collections of the British library and the Howard and Jane Ricketts Collection. Rare photographs from well-known photographers of the day make this an exquisite photographic record of a bygone colonial era. This book would be a good buy for collectors.

Fear of Fly Fishing is Heaven-Scent........2006-09-15
Dear Reader,
This book is an absolute gem. It makes me laugh out loud evey time I open it, no matter how terribly crappie or happy I feel....and being a fly fisherman myself, I can fully appreciate every fact of reel life that is put forth. Ohman correctly uncovers many realities of the sport in the most hilarious of ways, dealing with topics such as: (1) the four true personality profiles of fly fishing guides, (2)the kid who outfishes you, using a hula popper and a muskie-sized bobber, and (3)the terrible trials of fly tying, and (4)a parody of Izaak Walton's The Complete Angler ("...let's clear this up once and for all: He used worms.")
There are a lot of humorous fishing books that poke fun at the sport....but this is the best one I know. Ohman's sense of humor is supreme, all the way through. Order one for yourself. It would make a great gift for fledgling (and expert) fly anglers of all nearly all ages (9 and up), especially ones who are still learning and need a little guidance into the true realities of our beloved sport.

As natural as it gets.......2004-11-07
This book is one of the first I have ever read on Midwifery and had greatly influenced my decision to go back to school to be a midwife. I felt connected with the midwives in this book, not only because the stories took place not to far from where I live, but because I could feel the true companion of midwifery and got the calling. Only in this book can you read about women giving birth NATURALLY, some in mountain homes with no electricity, running water or flushing toilets, simply so their babies could have a decent birth out side of the controlling hospital setting. Only in this book can you hear stories such as the one of a woman delivering her baby in her V.W. bug...how awesome. True age-old midwifery is shown in this book and is a must read to see all aspects of giving birth.
Book Description
Few branches of the German armed forces were represented on so many fronts as the mountain infantrymen, or Gebirgstruppen. From the Blitzkrieg campaigns of 1940, through the invasions of the Balkans and Russia and the North African campaign, to the defence of the Reich 1944-45, the Gebirgsjäger earned a reputation for reliability and courage. Typically each trooper was a supremely fit individual: the need to cover difficult terrain in full kit, without the back-up of a motorised baggage train, demanded this. This new volume examines the recruitment, training, and combat experiences of the common Gebirgsjäger.

Promising but a bit Disappointing in Places.......2006-10-30
Although the Wehrmacht in the Second World War has been covered fairly well in recent military history, one subject that has not been given much attention is the role of German mountain troops in the conflict. In Osprey's Warrior #74, Gebirgsjäger, veteran author Gordon Williamson attempts to shed some light on this heretofore-neglected topic. Unfortunately, the results are a bit disappointing, although the volume does have some merit.
The author follows the normal format for this series, with sections on recruitment and training, daily life, battle, museums and resources, and bibliography. The color plates by Darko Pavlovic, covering typical Gebirgsjäger uniforms and equipment in 1939-45, are probably the best part of the volume. Although the author does a decent job outlining the development of German mountain troops and some aspects of their training, much of the material seems very reminiscent of earlier volumes on German infantry. While the author does detail some of the specific equipment used by German mountain troops and does provide a rough idea of unit organization, there is no real discussion of the composition of a Mountain Division or even a regiment. At the very least, a detailed look at company and platoon organization and weapons would have been useful.
It is in the section on battle that the author really slips and reveals how little fresh research effort went into this volume. On page 32, the author begins discussing how General Eduard Dietl led the 2nd Gebirgs Division in the assault on Narvik and he continues this for several pages. Unfortunately, Dietl was commander of the 3rd Gebirgs Division and that was the unit sent to Narvik, not the 2nd (which did dispatch a small amount of reinforcements later). It is hard to see how the author could have much such a factual mistake, given the fact that this information is readily available. The author's discussion of mountain infantry operations does improve, but it was hard getting over this early lapse in credibility. Finally, the author diverges onto the subject of SS Mountain infantry and spends 5 pages on these do-nothings, which were low-quality, late-war formations. The author should have remained focus on the elite army mountain units rather than spending considerable space discussing a subject better left to the Osprey volumes on the SS.
Overall, Gebirgsjäger is adequate but a bit disappointing in places. On the plus side, the photographs and color plates are quite good. However, the author's narrative is spotty, sometimes good and other times full of holes or veering off-track. The level of research standing behind this volume is modest, at best.
Grab your skis!.......2004-03-06
Fantastic breakdown of the german mountain troops, their history and their involvement in WWII. Great photography accompanies this well written and highly informative book.

Book Description
The volume aims to produce an updated collection of advanced theories and methods in the field of urban policies, and highlights modern urban policies that stem from them. Contributions stress the limits of previous theories and methods, and emphasize the new directions that are developed in the field, and barriers that are overcome, providing in this way a dynamic perspective on theoretical and methodological knowledge in the field of urban economics. Urban policies, as well as practical problems envisaged in our modern cities, that take advantage from this theoretical development are stressed.
