Master Built Pools and Patios.......2007-06-28
If I could have viewed some pages of this book it may have inspired me to purchase it. It is quite an expensive book foo the topic and without a chance to look first, I think you may lose some buyers.
Lack of information.......2006-01-22
I would think if you were going to provide a book and list the pool companies you would also list the material contractors and possibly the artisans.
I installed the materials on one of the North Carolina pools. The pool contractor likely had no idea where the materials came from and initially provided substandard labor. Hardly qualifying for a master pool rating.
The materials used were economical and high quality -the impression is that these are out of common reach installations. Hardly the case. Excellent pictoral representation of the projects however.
Beautiful Book.......2005-09-07
This really is a beautifully inspiring book. While many of the products in the book are out of reach for the individual with an average income, it offers some great ideas that you can incorporate into something that is a little more within your reach. The details are very nice and descriptive. It will also serve well as a nice coffee table book.

Animal Painting and Anatomy (Dover Art Instruction & Reference Books)
ASIN: 0486429806 |
Book Description
Using different colors in his drawings, the author not only describes with clarity the functions of various muscles, but also creates images that have the power to suggest movement and stress. Diagrams and color illustrations of the horse's anatomy are supplemented by meticulously rendered sketches of the entire animal. 66 black-and-white illustrations.
Customer Reviews:
dissapointed again.......2004-02-28
It's so difficult to find a book that illustrates horse anatomy in action. This book discribes action and shows the basic illustrations of anatomy the same as the rest, motionless. These are also poorly done. May be ok for a horse buff but this book is not so wonderful from an artist's perspective.

Book Description
Bestselling photography author Lee Frost turns his attention to black and white photography, and demonstrates how it is possible to make beautiful black and white images and fine prints with the minimum of fuss.
Black and white photography has a reputation for being something of an esoteric art requiring lots of expensive equipment and an encyclopaedic knowledge of complex techniques. But here Lee Frost dispels this myth, and proves that it can be the most simple, expressive and rewarding medium. The book covers all the essential techniques of black and white photography from what equipment to use through to the finer points of printing and toning, thereby demonstrating how Lee Frost creates his own breathtaking photographs, and how you can too.
Customer Reviews:
One of the best B&W photo books I've read........2007-08-29
I've been into b&w photography for a little while now, and lately I've been doing a lot of reading on the subject. This is without a doubt one of best books I've read so far. I'm already familiar with all of the technical aspects of photography, and those are all explained in the book (except for the zone system, which Frost clearly states at the beginning he doesn't use). Along with all of the technical stuff, Frost also explains his creative techniques. I can't say I learned much of that technical stuff (I already knew it all. I'm sure a beginner could learn a ton), but it did open my eyes to take a much more creative approach on photography than I had previously taken. Also in the book that's great is a chapter on lith printing and using liquid emulsion. Along with all of the information are pictures taken by Frost with captions that explain anything relevant to the chapter. This book is a great read for anyone who wants to improve their photography skills.
The perfect book for beginners and pros alike.......2004-05-26
This is by far the best black and white photo technique book I have read. I am a pro photographer and always keep a huge collection of how to books and monographs for looking up styles and new ideas.
Lee Frost is a very down to earth photographer that really takes what he loves to heart. He preaches that it is not all the little technical things that people and teachers say you need to know that make good photographs, its your own imagination and creativity.
This is the perfect thing to say for a true artist. Lee Frost gives us his own examples of basic photo techniques and then shows us how easy it is to make a beautiful fine art photograph with simple household products and a NON pro camera set up. Of course, he does state that having good equipment will always help, but it is not always needed as so many say.
Just think of the world famous photographer David Hamilton, who only used one 35mm camera, one lense, only natural light, and no filters. It doesnt get much more basic than that, and he is bowed down to by thousands.
Lee Frost has the same idea, and it is very asuring knowing that you dont need to go out and spend thousands to be a pro.
Again, I believe that this is the best how to and reference guide on the market today. Get it.
Good but not brilliant!!.......2004-05-25
Ive always enjoyed Lee Frost's past endeavours in the written field but this one didnt quite get up there in my expectations. This is still a very good book for intermediate photographers but perhaps not quite as gritty as I had hoped for. Enjoyable nonetheless.

THREE ROCKS.......2003-02-03
My dad bought me this over 10 years ago, and I've read it countless times. Bushmiller's art personifies a Platonic space stretching through the mind's suburbia, and this thick tomb has lots of strips from Nancy's many eras, giving you a good picture of the strip's evolution. Also some great historical material and some of the weird spinoffs of Nancy (the MAD magazine parodies and some abstract art stuff). If you've never read this essential strip, this is the book to get. If someone would just bother to reprint it...

Book Description
To mark the golden anniversary of his ministry, one of America's most revered ministers has written a profound book offering the universal principles that have guided his life -- and can inspire yours!
Fifty years ago Robert H. Schuller founded a church on the idea that with faith, focus, and follow-through all of our dreams can become realities. A tireless advocate of this positive message, he built the Crystal Cathedral into one of America's most popular and beloved centers of worship. Dedicating his life to both his family and his ministry, Dr. Schuller has gone on to teach millions the power of belief. A gifted and moving storyteller, he now offers the wisdom he's gained over a lifetime of optimism and devotion. In this personal and inspirational book, Schuller shows us how the universal principles that have formed his life and work can guide ours as well. Starting with the message of "Don't Throw Away Tomorrow!" this landmark book discusses powerful and universal ideals such as starting with optimism, choosing positive values, keeping focused, clearing the channels of communication, and -- most important -- looking to the Ultimate Authority.
Inspired by his love of humanity and God, Robert H. Schuller's
Don't Throw Away Tomorrow is a culmination of his wisdom, delivered directly to the reader -- a tribute to the power of possibility thinking.

Customer Reviews:
A Gifted Motivator Continues to Inspire.......2006-05-02
Dr. Schuller has been an inspiration to me for years and while this book repeats some of his earlier works, I still find it inspiring and I'm glad he continues to provide excellent mental nutrition for us to feed on. I love hearing about how God provided when he moved to California with $500 and a dream. Of particular interest in this book is the discussion of the scientific study of intuition. He tells us..."scientists are now beginning to recognize the existence and importance to our overall health of 'spirit.'" He uses the term "theosomatic" to describe that we're body, mind, and spirit. This contrasts with the "somatic" approach that looks at body and "psychosomatic" that views body and mind.
Dr. Schuller has a chapter on contractions. He explains how we're faced with realities that seem to be in conflict with each other. He concludes that section that talking about the ultimate contraction, i.e., life and death. "I put my trust in one person, Jesus Christ, who combines this ultimate contradiction through His resurrection. Jesus is in the land of the living--heaven. Every one of us can think of somebody very precious to us who has left the land of the dying and is now in the land of the living. You and I haven't taken that journey yet."
Jesus Himself said "I am the way, the truth, and the life."
Passing Wisdom.......2005-09-09
Robert Schuller has ever been my inspirational role model and all his books are greater wisdom. Another author Paul Coelho comes to my mind apart from Harold Kushner,Deepak Chopra, Robin Sharma, Osho, etc whose book collection I cherish the most. However, Robert Schuller's books are great guiding light and stand a class apart in spiritual training. Robert schuller speaks the wisdom of living - Motivating, Inspiring and changing Attitudes for a better Positive living lifestyle. This book of RS reflects the most positive flow of thinking 'Be what you are, what god what you to be'. Rob shares his wisdom and power of positive thinking to be optimistic. With great personal stories and anecdotes, likewise his other books, this one has a fine line down the read that speaks of wise advice 'Don't throw away tomorrow - Live the dreams'. Among his best reads I like are:
Tough Times Never Last, Tough People Do!
Life is Fair but God is good
Tough Minded Faith for Tender Hearts
The (Be) Happy Attitudes
Success is never Ending, Failure is never final
It's going to be me, It's upto me.
Though my best choice pick is Tough minded Faith for tender hearts, this one is an exceptional book as it really has the insight to think ahead to future and turn dreams to reality. I've read all his books and they are best in my library. I also make it a point to gift to the people I like and feel I wish to share Rob's wisdom. These books aren't too costly too.All his 'Better Yourself' serious is marvellous collections.
NOT Schuller's best.......2005-05-02
This is not Schuler's best book. I am fan of his weekly show, "The Hour of Power" and while his previous books have been outstanding, it's because most of them have dispensed practical advice and positive attitudes to his readers. As you can see if you watch his show, though, he seems to be getting a little more "loony" with age, for lack of a better term, and "Don't Throw Away Tomorrow" continues on that path. This is less his typical style of writing and more a pat on the back for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of his ministry, which don't get me wrong is well-deserved, and also an extension of his autobiography of a few years back, "My Journey". A little too much "rah-rah-sis-koombah" for my liking in this book. But it's Schuller, so if you like him, I recommend it still. Just don't expect anything new.
Robert Schuller's Best Book Yet.......2005-02-13
"Don't Throw Away Tomorrow" is Reverand Robert Schuller's best book ever. In this very well written book, Schuller distills his fifty years of building, bridging, and ministering down to the truths of daily living.
Imagine having an opportunity to sit with a very wise person for a day or two...One who is willing to openly share his personal knowledge about the stuff of life - who and what is most important, how to face and overcome the struggles, how to achieve authentic happiness, and when the race is nearly done, how you can look back with satisfaction that you became what God wanted you to be.
Robert H. Schuller is no ordinary elder statesman. While labeled a televangelist, Dr. Schuller is not just a televangelist. He has a broad mix of experiences that set him apart from his peers and others with his years. While a preacher and a very good one, he went against the grain of his own denomination by focusing not on sin but on HOPE. His entire ministry has been dedicated to helping all of us to "become what God wants us to be," the essence of his "Possibility Thinking."
He gained great wisdom while pioneering (an entrepreneurs' entrepreneur)the creation of a mega-Church , the Crystal Cathedral; pioneering an international outreach via TV; and creating innovative ministries to heal and help many of those who are hurting or are in need.
His influence here and abroad is readily apparent when one looks at the creation and expansion of other Churches who have adopted his "Mission" approach in reaching those who are seeking. The work of Rev. Bill Hybels, Willowcreek Church, (near Chicago), and Rev. Rick Warren (A Purpose Driven Life), Saddleback Church, (Orange County), are just two of Dr. Schuller's many students who bear witness to the fruit that has fallen from the Schuller tree.
In "Don't Throw Away Tomorrow," Dr. Schuller, with great personal stories and anecdotes, discusses the power of optimism; the importance of determining one's mission; choosing the values that are most important; living with a "right" conscience; measuring tomorrow's risks and rewards; communicating with honesty and clarity; understanding life's contradictions and one's assumptions: and the overall importance in believing for grand tomorrow.
This is Dr. Schuller's finest book yet! While it is an easy read, it is one that you will want read slowly and savor. It is full of golden nuggets of wisdom gained over his 50 years as a committed minister, entrepreneur, healer, and possibility thinker. Dr. Schuller has been fully committed to helping each of us be all that God has enabled us to be. His underlying life philosophy comes through loud and clear. This is a book many will enjoy. Many will keep this next to their bed stand for years, and many will provide this as a gift in helping others become what God wants them to be!

Book Description
Why do some civil wars end in successfully implemented peace settlements while others are fought to the finish? Numerous competing theories address this question. Yet not until now has a study combined the historical sweep, empirical richness, and conceptual rigor necessary to put them thoroughly to the test and draw lessons invaluable to students, scholars, and policymakers. Using data on every civil war fought between 1940 and 1992, Barbara Walter details the conditions that lead combatants to partake in what she defines as a three-step process--the decision on whether to initiate negotiations, to compromise, and, finally, to implement any resulting terms. Her key finding: rarely are such conflicts resolved without active third-party intervention.
Walter argues that for negotiations to succeed it is not enough for the opposing sides to resolve the underlying issues behind a civil war. Instead the combatants must clear the much higher hurdle of designing credible guarantees on the terms of agreement--something that is difficult without outside assistance. Examining conflicts from Greece to Laos, China to Columbia, Bosnia to Rwanda, Walter confirms just how crucial the prospect of third-party security guarantees and effective power-sharing pacts can be--and that adversaries do, in fact, consider such factors in deciding whether to negotiate or fight. While taking many other variables into account and acknowledging that third parties must also weigh the costs and benefits of involvement in civil war resolution, this study reveals not only how peace is possible, but probable.

A True Story--Life and Death Gamble.......2001-05-31
This book gripped me from start to finish. Melson draws you in to this suspenseful story using the voices of his mother and father to narrate this unbelievable tale of a young couple, baby in tow, outwitting the Nazis and surviving the holocaust while posing as a Count and Countess! I can't believe it's true. A must for anyone interested in WWII, or in a great love story for that matter...

False Papers and the Search for Idenity.......2000-10-26
Many books have been written about the holocaust both by impartial observers and intimate survivors. False Papers: Deception and Survival in the Holocaust by Robert Melson will stand out among them because it is more than observation and personal reflection-it is a psychological study of a young man's search for identity and meaning in a world that keeps changing the rules.
False Papers tells the story of the Melson (Mendelsohn) family's escape from the Nazi ovens by posing as Polish royalty, a feat they are able to accomplish because Nina Melson, the author's mother, was able to buy false papers. What is unique about their life during the war was that they not only lived openly among the Gestapo, but also became quite friendly with their neighbors. The story of their deception and survival as told through the eyes of Nina, Willy (the author's father) and Bobi (the author's reflections through his own youthful memory) is compelling enough to keep the reader involved in the book. This is only one dimension of the book-an incredibly true adventure story.
Bt there is another important dimension to the book that cannot, and must not, be overlooked: the search on the part of the author-first as young Bobi and later as American Bob-for his true identity in a world that is constantly changing for him. First he knows himself as Count Boguslaw Zamojski the Catholic; after the war as Bobi Melson the Jew until he is enrolled in Le Rosey, an exclusive Swiss prep school, when he must again become Catholic; next to America where he settles in New York as a young Jewish immigrant; then against his deepest wishes he is dragged to Japan where his father has set up a sewing machine factory. Each time young Melson must learn to survive and question "Who am I this time?". Fortunately, he is clever enough to pick up environmental clues to guide his behavior and survival, but the reader feels his sense of pain as he struggles to find his true self.
What makes this a deeply probing psychological exploration of one's search for identity is Melson's ability to step back from the action to view his family dynamics-his father's struggle with his compulsive need for adoration, his mother's deepening depression and her inappropriate use of the young Bobi as her personal confidant, and the parent's obsession with appearances.
It is in the Epilogue that everything comes together. We are told about the deaths of Willy and Nina, how Bobi becomes Robert the MIT PhD, and how Robert finally realizes who he is. The reader feels at peace at the end of the journey.
Of all the writers on the holocaust, his writing style is closest to that of Primo Levi. However, there is a difference: Levi always keeps the cool distance of a scientist in his descriptions of behavior and events while Melson uses warm, personal description of the behavioral scientist that he is. It is a must reading for those who want to know more about the holocaust, family dynamics or a young man's search for self. No matter what your reason is, False Papers: Deception and Survival in the Holocaust is a book you will read, reread, and pass on to others.

Book Description
The last few years have seen an upsurge of interest in the study of cells by optical microscopy. The advent of new techniques such as confocal microscopy and the availability of extremely sensitive digital imaging devices are revolutioniz-ing the field. A number of groups have developed new ways of making spectroscopic measurements at the microscopic level, accompanied by the introduction of appropriate sen-sor molecules for cellular assays. The aim of this volume will be to bring together the various advances in order to provide the reader with an up-to-date account of what can now be achieved with modern optical microscopic methods.
