Book was good as my first book to understanding the painting types but lacked procedure. Book kind of jumps around a bit, not so much of a step by step or straight-forward approach. Does discuss safety, gun types, shop setup, paint systems(single stage vs. base coat/clear coat)metal and plastic prep procedures, but the author did ramble unnecessarily too much.
Just lacked overall concentration of the painting procedure itself.

Oh so much pictures...............2001-04-28

This book can be considered a good source of informatin for custom painting. But I also found that it had a lot of un needed information. I'm basing my reasons on "why would a beginner want to do a difficult custom paint job?"

Overall, the book could use more techniques on masking for flames. I believe people would want to know more than just painting flames.

Gets you started with a lots of short examples. After reading this you'll probably want Advanced RenderMan, but this is a far easier introduction to the RenderMan world.

Poorly produced, rushed to market.......2004-06-18

This book should have never been published in such
haste. The author lightly grazes on important topics,
offering just tidbits but nothing significant. Very few people
use the C API, I don't see any point in wasting space on this.
The images are terrible, lack detail, hard-to-follow and most are in black and white. The 'Suggested Activities', 'Summary'
and 'Related Commands' sections at the end of each chapter are a joke and are merely page fillers. Surprising that Springer-Verlag would let such a low quality publication slip through.

This book is terrible. It tells you how to do the easy things, but nothing more. For harder things, it constantly tells you what is possible to do, but not how to actually do it. I would definately pick up a copy of "Advanced Renderman" or "The Renderman Companion" instead of this book! If you have any graphics programming experience, this book will not help you.

A great book for beginners.......2003-06-18

Start learning Renderman with this book, its up to date and you can really get going with the information you learn. It has many simple examples you can test and modify yourself including simple RIB scenes, C Api and Shading Language. If you don't know anything about Renderman and want to start learning, this book is for you.

Everyone should read this book. It is an enjoyable read. It gives the reader valuable information in a way that is not confusing or induces boredom. I am giving copies of this book as Christmas presents this year to family members who are joining the workforce for the first time.

Beyond Paycheck to Paycheck: A Conversation About Income, Wealth, and the Steps in Between (Total Candor)

Perhaps the quickest read of all financial planning books. Full of most of life's most important financial lessons from one of society's least likely sources: a barber with more money than anyone expects. Through anecdote the barber teaches his curious disciples the key money lessons you needed to know years ago - but probably still don't.

You'll learn quite a bit by reading "The Wealthy Barber." Take notes, however - there's no glossary or index making it's referential value somewhat limited. But then again, the story is so good, you can read it again later if you find you need a refresher.

The book uses the story approach to teach you something, and does it well. The storyline keeps you interested, so you don't fade off reading boring financial info. I learned a lot from reading the book, and have read about 3 or 4 other personal finance books that have been pretty redundant in information.

Best personal finance book ever!!.......2007-01-20

The Wealthy Barber, in my opinion, is the best personal finance book ever written. Mr. Chilton provides valuable and simple advice on how to obtain wealth. He covers topics such as life insurance, wills, saving 10 percent of your income, and owning your own home. This book should be a mandatory read of all high school and college students. If you want to retire wealthy, change your financial status, and improve your life today, you should order and read this book.

Manage your money.......2007-01-09

This is a great book to learn the basic of finances. It's easy to read because of it's story format. Would recommend especially if you're self-employed. It helps you acquire the habilities to plan a good retirement.

This book (and its second volume: Military Operations since 1871) are both required texts for my Military History class. Most students claim to only rapidly skim required reading for classes, but I've managed to read everything so far (if that tells you anything). As far as material is concerned, this text is both wide-ranging and thourough, describing the invention and development of military techniques as well as discussing the society and government of the time, and how all these factors influence eachother. Highlighted areas include the Thirty Years War and the development of limited war, and the progression though the Napoleonic Wars to almost complete total war during the War Between the States. This book does an excellent job in tying all these early battles together and showing the overall development of warfare. However, if you are interested in nitty-gritty facts on Waterloo or Gettysburg, find a book specific to that battle instead of the sweeping panoramic view this book provides.

Excellent Survey of Western "Military Art".......2000-05-12

This book is the result of the collaboration of a number of the best military historians in the US today, including Mark Grimsley, George Herring, John Lynn, and many others, skilfully tied together by the editors (who are also major contributors), Professor Ira Gruber of Rice University and Colonel Robert A. Doughty of West Point. The result is an outstanding survey of modern Western military history designed for undergraduate history courses, but easily accessible to the general reader as well. The prose is exceptionally clear and the ideas lucidly presented. These two volumes are definitely focussed on the operational level of the "military art" (i.e. on the planning and conduct of campaigns), with some treatment also of strategy, tactics, and technology, but very litte material on "war and society" subjects (i.e. how wars and military developments have affected society and vice-versa). This makes it especially useful for ROTC military history classes, but it is also a very good introduction to the "sharp end" of military history for scholars or students whose main interests lie in the effects of war, rather than its conduct.

An insightful look into politics/economics around the world........1999-04-29

With the exception of a few interpretations given to U.S. foreign policy and few opinions on where it should be going,this book hits the mark.Everything from enviromentalism to South Africa is touched upon. There's a category of essays about each inhabited continent, often with authors actually originating from the country they're writing about. While some light is shed on what the New World Order means for countries under that order,there's not much room for detail, considering the range of topics.Anyone who wants a good overall view of what's happening in the world around them should read this;this will help a lot.
