Beauty and Fun.......2007-03-09
The photos in this book were beautiful and the illustrations of how to make the different sand creations were easy to follow. One of the authors was the architect who had designed a local library in NJ, so I felt somewhat of a personal connection in reading this book, since I'd worked at that library for 2 yrs. For a person with limited time to read or who loves the shore, this is the perfect book. It's not too wordy or too long.
Not worth the money if you want more than pretty pictures.......2002-10-09
Although I compliment the authors for the beautiful things they created, this book was not much more than a picture book of what could be done. There was very little of the "howto" of sand castle building. 'The S.o.B. "take me to the beach" Sand Castle Book' by Lucinda Wierenga, while only a booklet and all black and white images, gives some wonderful tips on not only what you can do, but **how**.
Fun and informative.......2002-04-01
Breaking free from the typical "drippy castles" and sand bucket designs, the author reveals through photos how he and his family and friends build "monumental" architecture at the beach. Simple tools and instructions inspire you to get out your staight edge and head to the shore.
A quick read. I hoped for more designs and specific how-to's of the various structures, but basic concepts are clearly explained and give you enough information to build your own exotic and elegant sand castles.
A fun departure from the author's unusual books on earth-sheltered, earth-friendly architecture.

Very disappointing!!! Messy layout,...mostly mediocre artists who write just as poorly. What substance there is could have been covered in one of their two page magazine articles. And what's with all those pretentious triple barreled names?
Seascape painting techniques.......2000-07-12
Rachel R Wolf used a simple approach to deal with the painiting of the seascape. Not only the painiting of the sea is dealt with but the items that interact with the sea are also discussed. Items like boats, shorelines, people, animals, birds etc that compose the picture are discussed.
Mix media are also explored in the book. The autheor used different media like water colour, oil ink and pastel to illustrate how to bring out the mood for the various coposition. It also discuss how some of the tips to help overcome mistakes and mask its effects.
A wonderful reference book for landlubbers who love the sea.......1999-08-09
I go to Maine every year to paint the wonderful rocks and seas and boats. Seeing a sailboat from the safety of the shore (Iget seasick on a boat), doesn't give you nearly the perspective nor information that this book gives you. I have it, I've read it, I've used it, and now I'm sending it to a friend who loves to paint seascapes also.

A very friendly introduction to creating maritime art........1998-09-14
This book is very thoughtfully done. Filled with fresh new work. The layout is satisfying, reproduction is excellent. If contemporary sailboats and tugboats are your thing, you'll especially enjoy this work. It serves as a very good introduction to the techniques of painting marine art. The topics are useful, the demonstrations are interesting. This should be a real boost to ASMA (American Society of Marine Artists). The only thing I missed was information for contacting ASMA ...

This book is a must. The images are stunning, even if you aren't a huge fan, but are into glamour portraits. I am very picky, and love this book.

An Excellent Visual Record.......2002-07-14
This is an excellent chronological collection of beautiful photos of Audrey, rightly focused on her years as a star in the fifties and sixties, and balances the material very well: there are publicity shots, movie stills, private and candid shots, and a healthy mix of the familiar and the little-seen. The book is handsome and well-designed, and of the subject herself no more needs to be said. Probably the best visual book on Audrey so far, by a slight margin over "Audrey Style", which is more informative.
Audrey...A Classic In Every Sense Of The Word.......2000-05-22
This book features both black and white and color photos of the legendary Audrey. The photos capture her impeccable beauty and charm. There is a four page biography included, as well as a two page filmography. I think any Audrey Hepburn fan must have this book. I don't think you will be disappointed. I highly recommend this book for its superb photos. Adieu means "farewell" and true, she may be gone, but Audrey will remain with us forever.

Sensitive, Humorous and Fascinating.......2002-07-30
With a wit similar to Dorothy Parker, and a unique personality all her own, Pauline Avery Crawford was one the more interesting American women during World War II. Robertson does an excellent job atpresenting her spirit as well as her paranoia, and in drawing a complex portrait of a very strong-willed and brilliant woman. Highly recommended! Her poetry is not to be missed.

Thompson does an excellent job of giving you the information you need in a format that's easy to follow. I'd recommend this book to anyone who owns a daycare business -- Thompson is thorough in her examples and showed me several areas where I was missing potential deductions. During World War I, thousands of rural southern men, black and white, refused to serve in the military. Some failed to register for the draft, while others deserted after being inducted. In the countryside, armed bands of deserters defied local authorities; capturing them required the dispatch of federal troops into three southern states.
Jeanette Keith traces southern draft resistance to several sources, including whites' long-term political opposition to militarism, southern blacks' reluctance to serve a nation that refused to respect their rights, the peace witness of southern churches, and, above all, anger at class bias in federal conscription policies. Keith shows how draft dodgers' success in avoiding service resulted from the failure of southern states to create effective mechanisms for identifying and classifying individuals. Lacking local-level data on draft evaders, the federal government used agencies of surveillance both to find reluctant conscripts and to squelch antiwar dissent in rural areas.
Drawing upon rarely used local draft board reports, Selective Service archives, Bureau of Investigation reports, and southern political leaders' constituent files, Keith offers new insights into rural southern politics and society as well as the growing power of the nation-state in early twentieth-century America.

By 735 an Arab empire stretched from Arles and Avignon in southern France to the Indus River and Central Asia, and a vital young civilization fostered by a new world religion was taking root. Yet the Muslim conquerors were divided by tribal quarrels, tensions among new converts, and religious revolts. In 745 a vigorous new successor to the Prophet took control in Damascus and began to restore the waning power of the Umayyad dynasty. Marwan II's attempts were thwarted, however, by revolts on every hand, even among his own relatives. The main body of dissidents was a well-trained group of revolutionaries in Khurasan, led by the remarkable Abu Muslim. By 748 they had seized control of the province and drive the governor, Nasr b. Sayyar al-Laythi, to his death and were advancing westward. This volume tells of the end of the Umayyad caliphate, the Abbasid Revolution, and the establishment of the new dynasty.

This book re-examines the so-called Ἁbbâsid revolution, the ethnic character of whose effective constituency has been contested for over eight decades. It also brings to question the authenticity of the Ἁbbâsid dynastic claim. To establish its two theses (neither Arab nor Ἁbbâsid) this book employs, in its three parts, three distinct methodological approaches.
To reconstruct the secret history of the clandestine Organization, Part One elicits a narrative through a rigorous application of the historical-critical method. Part Two subjects to close textual analysis some prime-grade literary specimen. In Part Three, a purely quantitative approach is adopted to study the demographic character of the formal structures of leadership within the Organization.
History, historiography, heresiography, literature, the narrative, the textual analysis, and the quantitative approach, cannot be less inseparable.

Practical experience and basic concept of imaging equipment theory, function and repair. Lots of valuable information on installation, calibration and quality. Could be a good book for an associate degree program in biomedical or clinical technology or for someone already working in the field who would like to migrate into imaging repairs.
