Author Ron Chepesiuk is a master of high-octane journalism. "The Bullet Or The Bribe: Taking Down Colombia's Cali Drug Cartel," is a meticulous account of how Gilberto "The Chess Player" Rodriquez, Jose "Chepe" Santacruz, Helmer "Pacho" Herrera and Miguel Rodriquez...the kingpins of the Cali Cartel were brought to justice. This is without a doubt the most thrilling book I have reviewed about Colombia to date. Moreover, I strongly recommend it to all readers who love action-packed...world famous...crime stories.
In the words of Chepesiuk...the Cali Cartel would prove to be the most formidable adversary in the history of international drug trafficking. The sophistication of this criminal organization is incredible...the strategy is both simple & brilliant...communications are state-of-the-art and street level members of the cartel are told to live modestly and to avoid drawing attention to themselves. This is a hugh contrast to the rival Medellin Cartel that is both violent and audacious. On that note, the author does a commendable job of interviewing all of the major Colombian and American political and law enforcement actors who played a role in the saga of the Cali Cartel and Medellin Cartel. Chepesiuk's professionalism is impressive and also a tribute to his high standards of journalism.
On the sad side, this book does document the enormous corruption of government officials in Colombia. The Cali Cartel bought off senior members of government and of society. Unfortunately, the practice continues...drug trafficker corruption still exists in the highest levels of the Colombian government & society today, according to the text. Nevertheless, the Colombian National Police shines in this book with the arrival of its legendary leader...General Rosso Jose Serrano...who is dubbed, "Mr. Clean" by powerful members of the U.S. Congress. In conclusion, if you have a long business trip to make and need to pack a good book...here it is. This book is high-octane and impossible to put down. Buy it!

Foundational and Extremely Practical!!.......2004-06-17
I initially read "The Language of Parenting: Building Great Family Relationships at all Ages" by David Frees to gain some insight and leverage in my communication with my young children. I was blown away with how abundantly practical this book was in assisting me to improve my communication in all of my relationships (kids, spouse, work, etc.) The book was very easy to follow and was filled with analogies, stories and concepts for immediate application.
I highly recommend this book to anyone with children or grandchildren. At the same time, there is tremendous value for anyone who has any dealings with people. This is an all around winner as a "how to have great communication leading to great relationships book".

David Frees is a communication consultant and the creator of Quantum Communication programs. He also lectures internationally and is considered to be a master communicator. In "The Language of Parenting," he presents solutions for the highly complex issues that can develop in a parent/child relationship.
His book is divided into four main sections:
1. Building a Foundation: Quantum Learning and Enhanced Communication.
2. The Strategies of Great Communicators: Desired Results, The Beauty of Silence, Listening, Limits of Language and Building Rapport.
3. Tactics, Tools and Skills of Effective Communication: Avoiding Negation, Models of Creativity, Embedded Suggestions and the Power of Humor.
4. Frequently Asked Questions & Parent Resources: Questions about school age children, teenagers, adult children and teenagers. There is also a section for expectant and new parents.
I immediately appreciated the larger font size and the text was especially easy to read. This book is really a summary of all the lessons David Frees has learned throughout his life. He includes scientific research, action plans, wise and funny quotes and bold text to emphasize important points. Many chapters contain a Reminder and Action section so you can put the ideas to work almost immediately. You might find one or two of the ideas helpful and then you can write them in your journal.
While this book is a somewhat serious study of communication, there are some moments of interest when you will enjoy David's humor. I especially like when he puts text all in CAPS to really get your attention. Especially as he says: "you should consider the following belief" and then he really makes his point.
The section on how we process words in different ways was interesting. Do you see words as pictures, as the words themselves or do they produce feelings? He also gives reasons to why e-mail should not be used for complex emotional issues.
David also answers these questions:
How do you eliminate fights and foster positive communication?
What is the best way to approach my child about premarital sex, drinking, and drugs?
Is there really a list of proven communication techniques that encourage children to live happier, healthier and more confident lives?
The Language of Parenting is a highly organized collection of parenting wisdom and communications techniques. David teaches you so many excellent life skills. You can really use most of these skills in everyday communication.

Wisdom and Passion - A must read for all people.......2003-10-01
I've read quite a number of 'self help' books over the last few years and I find this book a unique learning experience because:
Prior to discussing the topic of the title, Mr. Frees gives a
perspective on learning. He is clear on the different types of learning (some people do not know that there are different ways of learning) and I appreciated the focus on peak learning environments. We all have them and if you read this book you will begin to know how to identify yours.
In addition, a strategy is established for the reader ... defining a strategy is not a unique concept but Mr. Frees' reminder gets the reader to establish goals and strategies in reading the book... result .... more learning.
Mr. Frees reviews effective communication .... . His discussion on congruency is one that all people can take and use each day in both their business and personal lives.
The writing in this book is clear and the concepts are powerful for everyday living.
Mr. Frees understands the concepts that are the foundation of a peaceful life ...a good example is his discussion on 'beliefs'.
I am very grateful for the teachers that have passed along their knowledge. Communicating is Mr. Frees' wisdom and passion.

As one who attended the Marine Corps Scout Sniper School in 1966, I was pleased to find that this book was not just some "feel good" propaganda. There was the actual story, warts and all, about the rocky beginnings of the program and the evolution from PX rifles to the rifles of today.
This book is loaded with readable tecnical information about both the eqipment and the Marines pulling the trigger.
A Top Shelf - Must Have Book for LongArm Enthusiasts!.......1999-02-16
This book is an exceptionally well-done guide to Marine Scout-Snipers in Vietnam. Unlike others who merely repeat a story or two that they've heard, Mr. Senich examines the tactical and technical side of sniping and provides for the reader a look at both the evolution of the sniper's weapon and the revolution in his employment. His research into patents, optics, rifles and sniper employment is unparalled and far superior to the mishmash of gimmicky sniper guides you find written by snakeoil salesmen these days. If you want to know about Sniping, buy this book.

NOT the book for experienced birders. Absolutely perfect for the dabbler as you will always be able to easily and quickly find your bird in this book. Though the book does provide a limited number of facts and descriptions of each bird, it should be used more as a visual guide to help you learn the name of each bird species.
Know Your Florida Birds.......2006-04-07
This gives you tips for differentiating between an anhinga and a cormorant (pointed or hooked beak) or snowy egret vs American egret (black vs yellow beak). Also shows chicks, immature birds, breeding plumage and females that vary in coloration.
The photos are large (some even full page), colorful and a real help in identifying the birds. It is a good browsing book as well, to just enjoy the birds flying, eating, swimming, etc.
Only 60+ pages, but the oversize format makes it a great souvenir of a trip to Florida or a resource for bird lovers or Florida residents. Actually it is useful to anyone living in the South or the Gulf coast states where these birds can be seen.
It includes coots, ducks, egrets, flamingos, frigatebirds, gallinules, gulls, herons, ibis, kingfisher, limpkins, osprey, pelicans, sandpipers, skimmers, spoonbills, storks and terns.

This is an awesome book with great fun facts. The pictures are beautiful! If you are a fan of Florida and the waterbirds, you will love this book and want to display it for others to see.

Wonderful book.......2001-04-24
This was a wonderful book. I had to buy it for an ecology class on the Everglades, but it was well worth it. It has beautiful large color illustrations, and descriptions of the various water birds of Florida. A great investment whether you plan to visit, like I did, or just to enjoy the book by itself. Really useful in identifying birds, especially wading, in the cypress swamps, as well as the entire Everglades water shed. A must buy.
