A JOY TO OWN!.......2005-03-30
Of all of my interior design and style books this is one of my VERY favorites... I sink into my favorite chair with this book again and again. I just love it! Wether you prefer old world style or sleek modern this book has it all (but far from ordinary!)... lots of inspiration with LOTS of gorgeous photos. A treat for your eyes whatever your taste!
brilliant.......2005-03-23
I own this book, Morroccan Interiors, Provance Interiors and Seaside Interiors. I will eventually own the whole lot of them. Why-- the books are a marvelous look into the interiors of people who are most rarely interior designers. They are artists, old people, young people, even gypsy caravans are given their due. I have gleaned better decorating ideas from these books than any "decorating" magazine or book. There was a story about letting the person who just moved from your apartment help you place your furniture as you move it- they know what fits where from their expericance. This and these books are great for "just making sense" in a vairety of gorgeous settings documented in gorgeous full color photos.
Wonderful Decorating Inspiration.......2004-02-25
If you are looking for a picture book of Parisian interiors to inspire your decorating, this will work very well. I am constantly searching for books like this--which are full of illustations of those interior details which seem to be uniquely Parisian. Every page is illustrated with photographs and includes just enough commentary to keep it interesting without getting descriptively heavy. This is definitely a pictoral reference/beautiful parlour table book.
Mmm........2003-02-28
I don't actually own this book; I found it by chance in my college's art library. Instantly, I fell in love with it's straight-forward photography. I have been renewing it for two months, and it has given me boundless inspiration for decorating my new apartment. This book is a jewelbox of decor and interior style. The full-page spreads offer tantilizing shots of the personal apartments of Parisian society-- both of the known and unknown; of large dimensions and of miniscule-- expousing beautiful decor that only a Parisian could pull off. Junk shop havens, classical boudoirs, catch-all collecting dens, and the odd moderne loft-- each interior is a true joy to see. Read, view, and enjoy and be inspired.
Eye Candy Anyone?.......2001-08-05
As a creative director, I've found this book to be very inspiring. Great photographic studies of Paris' most stylish homes (some owned by the famous, some are not) drip from these pages. Huge full-page and sometimes double-page images, printed on nice thick semi-matte stock, draw you right in. Like her book on Provence, its a great escape into another world. If you are a student of the esthetic, you will love it! PS. The cover is coffee-table ready too.
Book Description
Private Paris homes only open their doors to the few. This book shows us around 50 imaginatively conceived apartments and houses, the homes of prominent people such as Isabelle Adjani, Helena Christensen and Christian and Françoise Lacroix.
How we live is who we are. These interiors are "mirrors of the soul", showing the true personalities of those who live in them. From baroque opulence to cool understatement to colourful exoticism, their style is unforced - these are homes that people live in, not museum pieces. They also document Parisian vogues - for the Frech Thirties and Forties, for the furniture of Jean-Michel Frank and Jean Royère, for Diego Giacometti's stucco work, or the design features of the Vienna Secession.
This book documents a particularly energetic and fertile moment in one of the world's most beautiful cities. Paris Interiors brings together a selection of extraordinary apartments in the French capital, chosen purely for their individuality. From wicked fun to timeless classicism, everything in this unique book will be an inspiration.

Great Gift for a Lover of Paris Style.......2007-01-11
I bought this for my daughter and her husband. Both of them love Paris styles. The book was so gorgeous I was tempted to get another! My daughter wound up giving it to my son for his birthday, and has already ordered another copy for herself.
Fabulous.......2005-09-10
I drooled over this book in hardcover and I still regret not buying it. I was thrilled when it was reissued, albeit in papaerback, it is a fabulous read and visually stunning. It is a great homage to french style.

Collages by 12 Fabulous Collage Artists and Text by Lunaea Weatherstone
As children, we play with art naturally, but somewhere along the way, most of us get the idea that only an elite group artists can be creative. The creative spirit lives inside each person and longs to be expressed. Collage, assemblage, and mixed media artwork are opening doors to thousands of people who are discovering the deep inner joy that comes from playful self-expression.
ArtPlay: Collage for your Creative Spirit 2005 wall calendar celebrates the journey to find the artist within. It features pieces by twelve accomplished collage artists, accompanied each month by inspiring text to get the viewer's own juices flowing. The combination of practical suggestions and visual delights adds up to an exciting new calendar that will intrigue, entertain and, most of all, inspire.
Sample caption:
Self-portraits don't have to look like you! Making a collage that depicts your inner self rather than your outer self is just as revealing maybe more so. The colors, words, images, shapes and overall mood add up to a picture of who you are today, right now, at the moment of self-expression. Tomorrow's self-portrait may be completely different. But they all represent you. . . the artist.

Nuditity but not pinup artistry.......2001-03-07
It is a book for you who want to see how you can use software such as Painter (formerly known as Fractal Painter) to transform photos into your fantasies. It is about techniques and creativity but it is not a show-off of fantastic illustrations. The illustrations are far removed from artist like Vargas, Vallejo, or any of the old pinup masters. So, if you look for something like that don't bother. It is not a book of mastery of photoshop either, it really is more of a book using computers to twist and deform images, transform and filter them.
The main theme is nuditity, without that the book would have no interest at all to many. However if you skip the pictures and read the text you can find some valuable tips and tricks, but you need to be able to bear with that you don't like or aren't interested in.
If you want nice pictures look elsewhere, if you are after pinup artistry look at the various pinup books about artists such as Vargas, if you want "modern art" psychadelic pictures you may want to look in this book...
Useful Ideas, Some Odd Imagery.......2000-07-01
I have no experience in nude photography, and my knowledge is limited to an evening's lecture given in 1974 by Peter Gowland. Mr. Gowland was a photographer for Playboy magazine, and lectured on glamour photography, one of the six topics covered in a photo seminar. I learned quite a lot, including that women with different body types can be made to look better or worse depending on the angle from which they are photographed. I'd just learned about special effects, three years before the first Star Wars movie.
Jim Zuckerman's book is also concerned with special effects, namely those created with digital photography. About half of the book is graphics. Every page either contains a graphic image or faces a graphic image. This is a book to be looked at and admired as much as read.
The text covers a number of topics, including setting up a digital operation, inputting photos, and working with them. He concludes with a chapter on marketing digital photos of nudes. The discussion isn't in depth. The book devotes more discussion to the photos and how the author made them.
He uses Adobe Photoshop and MetaCreations Painter, and writes within that context. His explanations can be easily transferred to most other packages such as Corel Photo-Paint. However, this book shouldn't be used to learn those packages, again because the discussion is superficial. Use the book, instead, as a cookbook as you try to create similar effects.
The visual aspect of this book is very impressive. There are, admittedly, a couple of these fantasy nudes that I wouldn't want to meet in a dream on a dark and stormy night. Women, I think, are a bit like sunsets. Each is different, and yet each can be beautiful in her, or its, own way. The author captures that beauty and accents it in various ways to produce striking images.
Jim Zuckerman is a professional photographer and writes for those using the same advanced technology. He doesn't seem to be addressing today's amateur with a digital camera. I don't believe he used a digital camera to produce any of the photos in this book, written in 1998. Even so, an amateur who knows a little Adobe Photoshop or a similar package should be able to produce similar effects by following his discussions.
This book is about digital effects. That is, there's no discussion of photographic technique. The photos are assumed to be already taken.
Why should you buy this book? First, to admire Mr. Zuckerman's work, and much of it is very good. Second, you may get ideas that can be applied to your own photos. They don't even have to be nudes. You can apply these techniques to the clothed, to children, to sunsets, and to the family pet. I rate it as a three instead of a five, because it's not written for digital photographers like me.

Copy protection ruins this CD - Be careful!.......2006-11-08
This is an excellent learning tool.....WHEN IT DECIDES TO LOAD AND RUN!!!
I don't know what kind of copy protection they are using but it prevents me from using the CD most of the time. Other CDs are recognised but not not this one. This piece of *#(* will only be recognised as a CD with data after rebooting and then only a small percentage of the time.
That's a shame too. If not for that fact I would rate it highly but as it mostly useless and not heavy enough for a paper weight I give it 1 star.
BTW. I contacted the tech support and they accused me of using an illegal copy. They had no answers.

Book Description
In this engrossing true courtroom drama, Gary D. Solis, a former Marine combat officer who teaches law at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, draws on his considerable experience to describe the Marine Corps' worst known war crime in Vietnam. Although overshadowed by the infamous My Lai massacre, the murder of sixteen women and children by five Marines at Son Thang-4 raised serious questions for the Corps and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Were the five Marines of the self-styled killer team sent to Son Thang-4 on 19 February 1970 carrying out orders to punish the hamlet or reacting to snipers when they opened fire on noncombatant civilians at point-blank range? Were their actions simply a consequence of weeks of unrelenting combat in which fellow Marines were killed by the invisible Viet Cong and their boobytraps? Using trial records and extensive interviews, Solis brings to life the host of military and civilian attorneys, judges, and juries who wrestled with these and other thorny questions in the midst of a combat zone. Here for the first time is the full story of what happened at Son Thang-4, including the controversial deliberations and verdicts--a study as pertinent today as it was more than twenty-five years ago.
Customer Reviews:
Outstanding Work on Military Justice in a War Zone.......2007-10-11
Professor Gary Solis' "Son Thang: An American War Crime" is an excellent account of the courts-martial of four Marines for the murder of 16 Vietnamese civilians during the Vietnam War. Drawing from the transcripts from the courts-martial, the appellate record, the historical record, and interviews with many of the participants, Solis - a Vietnam veteran who served as both a military prosecutor and military judge in the Marines and who now teaches military law at West Point - gives a complete picture of the story as only a true insider can.
Although this book is history, it reads like a novel. Solis brings the tension of the battlefield and the drama of the courtroom alive in this book. And he also brings alive the legal maneuvering before each court-martial as the prosecutors, defense counsel, and - in some cases - civilian defense counsel, all "prepared the battlefield" before each court-martial.
As a former practitioner of military justice, Solis understands the nuances and intricacies of military justice, staff work on a division staff, and the actual role of commanders in the process. He methodically explains how military justice works in a deployed environment (the rules are the same, but there are many "real-world" problems such as witness production and transportation that can threaten an otherwise sound case).
Finally, Solis also gives glimpses of the bigger picture of the Vietnam War in 1970: the USMC manpower problems with Project 100,000, law of war training issues, the moral problems dealt with by Marines facing women and children fighters, etc. And, after telling the full post-trial stories of the convicted Marines (that went on for over 10 years), Solis wraps up with some conclusions about what went wrong, what went right, and suggestions for improving the military justice system (which are especially relevant now that we are again trying important courts-martial in deployed environments).
"Son Thang" is an outstanding book and a very easy read. Anyone interested in the Vietnam War, military justice, or in trial work in general should read it.
brilliant account of a horrific incident.......2006-03-29
The reviews of Gary Solis's SON THANG are entirely accurate: the book is a masterpiece of historical research and sharp, incisive, nuanced writing. A gripping and depressing read, the book examines not only the singular horror of the Son Thang massacre (and in that it is a refreshing alternative to the incident as presented in Oliver North's white-washed memoirs, and Randy Herrod's self-serving BLUE'S BASTARDS), but also the decline in morale and professional standards during the waning days of the Vietnam War. That this decay almost overwhelmed the draftee-filled U.S. Army is an accepted fact. That an institution as proud as the Marine Corps (an institution which had upheld its highest traditions at places like Con Thien, Hue, Khe Sanh, and Dai Do from 1965-68) was also dry-rotting during the 1969-70 period is not as well known. Though a proud Marine veteran himself, the author is willing to look such ugly truths square in the eye, and SONG THANG is all the better for it. The Foreword by BrigGen E.H. Simmons, USMC (Ret), is also fascinating.
[A Review].......2002-06-19
I Just got through reading the book for the second time, and it
was just as good to me the second time as the first.
I will never understand the disparagey in the verdicts. To me the one that was most guilty got off scott free, while the least
guilyy got the worst punishment. That militarry justicefor you though.
Justice in the Field.......2001-08-10
"Son Thang" is both an important work of legal scholarship and a compelling, well-written story. Col. Solis documents, step by step, exactly how the Marine Corps treated its own suspected of war crimes in Vietnam-they were quickly tried, and if convicted, imprisoned. There were no coverups and no excuses. Marines accused of killing non-combatants were swiftly brought to book and the chips allowed to fall where they may. Here, it appears that several of the Marine Corps prosecutors were out-lawyered by civilian attorneys. That doesn't matter; a trial is, after all, a contest. What matters is that the Marine Corps had-and has always had and will always have-the will to try those accused of atrocities.
rayjoy@iap.net.......2000-06-24
A very interesting book. The author was not afraid to put the blame where it belonged. I wonder how many more such incidents happened in the time we were in Nam.As a Nam vet I know to well what it was like to be in a situation where you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. Hind sight is always 20 - 20,but sometimes our boys were put in a situation like that and were killed if they didn't take the nescesary steps. I am not condoning any senseless killing, but when it is kill or be killed you do what you have to do.

Product Description
The present book is complied from the first chapter of volume eighteen of Pt.Shriram Sharma Acharya Vangmaya series. It introduces neuro scientific, psychological and spiritual aspects of human brain and mind. Bioelectrical activities of the neuro-synaptic connections between million billions of neurons, information processing through the nervous system and the neuronal network and the mechanism of storage and retrieval of memory are discussed here along with the anatomy of the human brain and psychological depths of human mind. Major sections of this book deal with detailed analysis of the endocrine system and interrelationship of hormonal secretions and physiological, biochemical, mental and emotional variations.
The book also offers scientifically argued, lucid answers to some of our natural inquisitiveness concerning What are the functional centers in the brain, which might be responsible for exceptional memory ?. Hope it would inspire us to move deeper in the depths of the esoteric treasure bestowed by the Supreme Consciousness on our brain.

Disappointment.......2007-02-09
Having seen the National Geographic Field Guide to the Birds I was interested in the Florida version. However after receiving the book and looking through it I was greatly disappointed. The illustrations (photographs?) are very poor as far as identifying many of the birds. The drawings of the full version are much superior. It is also very incomplete in its coverage of the birds present. Upon receiving it I tried looking up birds I had recently identified and found a surprising number missing from the book although I could see some of them in my yard trees. Florida's Birds from Pineapple Press is much better although the first edition of it is also incomplete. I kept the NG book in my library but for now I will continue to use Sibley (Eastern Birds) and Stokes (Eastern Birds) as my field guides. One thing in favor of the NG Florida book is that it is small enough to actually be carried into the field easily.
Bird and Nature Books.......2007-01-05
I love this book and use it as a reference since I live on the water and there are all kinds of water and tree birds. The pictures are very clear, and descriptions are very informative.
birds gone wild.......2006-05-31
This is the perfect book to put in your pocket or backback. Its small and compact with excellent pictures and diagrams. Its a good book for beginners and for anyway in Florida who sees an amazing bird and asks, "I wonder what that is?"
