The Spectacular Golf Holes series is a magnificent collection of the most scenic, inspiring, and unforgettable golf holes in each state.

    Customer Reviews:

Outstanding golf photography covering the major metro areas and their respective signature holes. Would have liked to see more rural courses but suffice to say the book can't possibly cover all of the great courses of Texas - far and near. This book concentrates on the "near" courses.

First of all, I HATE the BIG UGLY picture of American Car Racer...do not know his name, on the cover of the book. Second, I hate NASCAR and Cheap political HOT WHEEL junk I do not even care for looking at. The book should focus on HIGH QUALITY COLLECTIBLE BRANDS ONLY. What a waste of paper~!!!

    Customer Reviews:

    3 out of 5 stars Doesn't Set the Standard.......2002-11-14

Only the publisher could call this book the "standard" of die-cast vehicle price guides, since it only covers 16 of the nearly 800 documented brands of die-cast vehicles produced in the last century. What it does cover is comprehensive - 624 pages devoted to an extensive listing of automotive as well as aviation toys and models from Corgi, Dinky, Eagle, Ertl, Exact Detail, GMP, Hot Wheels, Husky, Johnny Lightning (Topper and Playing Mantis), Kyosho, Lledo, Maisto, Matchbox, Minichamps (Paul's Model Art), Racing Champions/NASCAR, and Tootsietoys.

Among the missing are such well-known diecast brands as Anson, Bburago, Majorette, Siku, Solido, Tomica and Vitesse.
The most glaring error is the connection the author makes between Zee Toys and Maisto, an affiliation that never existed. It was M C Toys (May Cheong) that eventually became Maisto, not Zee Toys.

Zee Toys / Zylmex, originally a product of Zyll Enterprise, was eventually purchased by Red Box International. Latest Red Box offerings are now designated as Motormax, yet another brand neglected by this book.

Still, this book manages to provide a wealth of information, enhanced by a 32-page center section of color plates. The rest is in black and white.

To its credit, it is also the first commercially-published price guide that provides a detailed accounting of the complete NASCAR line from Racing Champions.

An additional bonus is an index of models by automotive brand, from Acura to Zephyr.

My own "Toy Car Collector's Guide" remains the real standard for collectors.

4 out of 5 stars Quirky coffee table fun!.......2001-06-19

What an adorable book! This is a great book for fans of fairies or feng shui. Its illustrations are colorful and amusing, and it manages to convey some of the more simple feng shui concepts in an entertaining "starter" format - although it's the only book I've seen that mentions chocolate as one of the elements of nature. Not that I argue with that, mind you!

Flo is so charming I immediately ordered her other published books, and await the release of more eagerly! Flo's stories are fun, simple books that are thoroughly attractive and enjoyable.

These are the memoirs of a Nashville news reporter and photographer. During Doug Underwood's life, he worked at the Nashville Banner, The Columbia Daily Herald, WLAC-TV and WSM-TV in Nashville, Tennessee. He also worked for Bill Brock, Nat Winston and Winfield Dunn, prominent Tennessee politicians. He started his own weekly community newspaper, The Westview, in the Bellevue area of Nashville in 1978.

After joining a local writer's group, he started writing the stories Paula Underwood Winters had grown up hearing about. They were stories about his early days working as a news photographer and reporter. He wrote about covering the burning of the Maxwell House Hotel and helping police catch an illegal abortionist. He also wrote about covering a tragic, well-publicized murder as well as more humorous incidents during his career.

Ms. Winters compiled these stories along with photographs taken of him and by him to create his memoirs. These assembled works were the only stories he had finished prior to his death in 1995.

5 out of 5 stars Recommended by my professor at the University.......2006-03-07

I got to know about this book as a read reference from my professor in my Entrepreneurship course at Åbo Akademi University in Finland and it is just great.
It is simple, easy, go straight to the point and full of tips. It is priceless and Caspian Woods really share his wisdom and experience with the reader. It is perfect for the ones who are wondering how would be open their onw business because it shows the good and the bad side of being an entrepreneur, also what you should do and what you should avoid doing, being very realistic what make it very credible.

The 24 short chapters of the book are consize in 160 pages and I worn you, once you start to read will be difficult you put it down. It is really a book worth to read. The only drawback I see is that is written to UK citzens and the chapter 21 about tax have things that is not worth for not UK citzens like in my case in Finland.
I definetely would recommend this book.

I was very excited when I got this.Being a complete novice I thought it sounded perfect. It is quite funny and written in a casual but informed manner. Before you can really use it however, you really need to have some idea what business your contemplating...I didn't.Essentially it is a big book of TIPS.
Overall it's a really nice book to own,but it hasn't got all the answers,it does give broad suggestions, but we have to come up with all the initial ideas, dammit!
You can use these tips on your idea,if you have one,I didnt,so I had to wait before I could put the information to use.A good one to have on the bookshelf as a reference.I like it.

Author and adolescent psychiatrist, Lynn Ponton, M.D., unveils plenty of daunting scenarios in The Sex Lives of Teenagers. On these pages, we meet Naomi, a pregnant teen who wants to have her baby; Lara, who is infected with HIV; Tom, who is hooked on pornographic videos; and Angie, who was sexually assaulted after getting drunk at a party. Ponton also tells stories of teens struggling with sexual identity, curious about normal sexual function, and dealing with pressure to have sex before they feel ready. In addition, sprinkled throughout are the voices of parents who struggle to cope with their teens' problems and, for the most part, seek to offer guidance and support, though not always successfully.

At times, Ponton seems to dwell on the dark and disturbing side of teens and sex: the boy who is sexually assaulted by a priest; the mother who calls her HIV-infected daughter a slut; the teen who discovers that his father sexually harasses female employees. Some of these situations may discourage parents, who have educated themselves about more common situations and who simply can't believe these types of things could happen to their children.

The best course of action might be for parents to read this book together with their teens, and to use some of the stories as jumping-off points for discussion. As Ponton makes clear in the opening chapter, all teens have sex lives--whether or not they are sexually active. And despite the sexually charged culture teens are exposed to daily, sex remains a difficult topic for parents and teens to discuss openly. The Sex Lives of Teenagers may be just the tool to help parents open the door to that discussion.--Virginia Smyth

              Book Description

With more and more teenagers having sex by the age of sixteen and others feeling pressured to before they're ready, parents and adolescents must find ways to communicate openly and honestly about a subject that has been ignored for too long.

Lynn Ponton, M.D., takes readers behind the closed doors of a therapist's office to hear what teenagers have to say about their sexual lives. In a safe forum, without fear of judgment or censorship, teens feel free to speak frankly about their feelings, desires, fantasies, and expectations. And parents give voice to the struggle of coming to terms with their children's emerging sexual identities.

Dr. Ponton opens a dialogue that addresses controversial topics such as pregnancy, abortion, masturbation, sexual orientation, Internet dating, and gender roles. Sensitive subjects such as AIDS and drugs are also explored.

A no-holds-barred look at a subject often considered taboo by parents, educators, and adolescents themselves, The Sex Lives of Teenagersbrings teen sexuality out into the open. It is a book that "delivers what it promises-a complete new vision on how sex impacts kids today" (Lenore Terr, M.D., author of Too Scared to Cry).

              Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Bad Dr., Bad book.......2005-10-27

I had Ms. Ponton as my therapist when I was 16 (I'm 22 now). She told my mother confidential information about my emotions that led to a lot of fighting and problems in my family. I also found her to be self absorbed and not connected to what people my age were feeling.

I have also read her books, and in one she wrote an entire chapter about a boy who loved the Smashing Pumpkins. Two things- 1- She spelled the singer's name wrong for the entire chapter. And 2- She stated that teenagers went to concerts for some sort of musical/sexual orgy...?! I can only speak for myself (and not HUGE groups of people, unlike others) but music concerts were always a religious/social/MUSICAL occasion. I felt more in tune with the divine there than anything else.

She tends to believe the worst, or most extreme if you'd like, about teenagers, and her work (both writing and practice) suffer from it.

              Thanks for reading.

2 out of 5 stars Focusing on the Negative.......2003-02-22

What is it these days with authors, and society in general associating teens having sex with pregnancy, STD's and harrasment. Teenagers these days aren't as naive as you think! I know I remember everything essential in those Health classes and what my parents taught me. After learning that every action has a consequence, they should also tell you that it is an enjoyable experience! No wonder half the girls out there are freaked out of their mind when the three letter word is brought up in any conversation!

5 out of 5 stars An Indispensable Guide to Adolescent Sexuality.......2002-03-27

After reading the New York Times January 15th article on Dr. Ponton, I decided to read The Sex Lives of Teenagers: Revealing the Secret World of Adolescent Boys and Girls. I found it to be sensitive, even-handed, and clear. The stories themselves are frank, which may make some readers uncomfortable. However, I felt that this was an honest portrayal of adolescent sexuality, ranging the spectrum of `typical' to extreme. At times touching, at times chilling, and always elucidating, I am very thankful, as a parent, to have discovered Dr. Ponton's work.

I have often felt lost and uncertain about which role to assume as a parent of teenage children. Dr. Ponton modeled, in a very direct way, a more effective, respectful way of communicating with adolescents. The Sex Lives of Teenagers is a major step on the road to understanding what so many people simply dismiss as incapable of being understood - the teenage mind. I consider this book required reading for all parents of adolescents.

1 out of 5 stars Same old sensationalism and denial.......2002-02-05

Unfortunately, this kind of book--the therapist
generalizes his/her most disturbed teenage client cases into a
dire commentary on all youth--is becoming an epidemic. This
book is not a useful basis for understanding young people.
Rather, it is part of the professional sensationalism and denial
that helps make America one of the riskiest Western nations to
              live in.
First of all, Dr. Ponton is both unfair and unscientific.
Suppose I culled some lurid cases of psychotherapists' sexually
exploiting patients and compiled them into a book, "The Sex
Lives of Psychiatrists." Such a book might depict modern
therapists as uniquely dangerous perverts the rest of us should
fear. Would that be accurate or fair? No. It would be an
example of what social scientists term as fallacious "selection
bias:" a grossly unfair smear on an entire group based on the
misdeeds of a few of its most disturbed number. Now, Dr.
Ponton, and readers and reviewers who seem to worship this
kind of book as "realism:" how is what she does to teenagers
              any different?
Second, Dr. Ponton's comments on youth sexuality are
blatantly inaccurate. She claims that today's teenagers "are
taking greater risks" with sex than past generations. Not true.
The latest National Center for Health Statistics data shows that
teens today are less likely to get pregnant, less likely have
babies or abortions, and less likely to contract STDs today than
teens of 25 to 30 years ago. Further, teens who do get pregnant
tend to be older (more are 18 or 19, rather than 12-17) today
              than back then.
Third, she blames the easy targets such as media images
of sex and innate teenage risk-taking for adolescent sexual
problems. What evasion. Surely, in her work in HIV treatment,
Dr. Ponton noticed that HIV-positive youths are not a
cross-section of the average teenage population, but
overwhelmingly are extremely poor, usually homeless
prostitutes forced into "survival sex" with adult clients to obtain
money, food, shelter, and protection. It's depressing that
in the few instances in which Dr. Ponton's book relates adult
sexual abuses, solicitations, and harassments toward youths,
those who seem eager to believe any debauchery among teenagers
              dismiss and deny them.
The fact is that exhaustive clinical testing has found
HIV infection rates on college campuses are almost zero and,
among teens in general, are very low. However, HIV-positive
levels run as high as one in six destitute runaway and homeless
youths, which is why HIV is dozens of times more common
among African American teen girls than among the more
privileged, mostly white youths Dr. Ponton sees. Unhealthy
adult sexual behaviors and rampant youth poverty (not
race)--and not "teenage risk taking"--are the markers of high
rates of unwanted pregnancy, sexually-transmitted disease, and
AIDS among the most vulnerable fraction of young people.
When are professionals such as Dr. Ponton going to face their
responsibility to stop selling books with popular, salacious
kid-sex tales and unwarranted fears about "youth today," and
instead confront readers and policy makers with the unpopular,
real risks our adult society imposes on its young people?

5 out of 5 stars review from CA teen.......2001-03-06

Reading "The Sex Lives of Teenagers", I recognized my own fears about sex. It is the first book that has talked about it like it really is, bringing up not only the fun parts, but the tough spots that I myself have been in. This book honestly discusses pregnancy, masturbation and questions about being gay. It has been really helpful to me and I recommend it to other teens.

                        Book Description

A volume in the Molecular and Cellular Neurobiology series. This book reviews the recent advances in our understanding of the molecular and cellular mechanisms that control the assembly, transport, targeting and anchoring of the protein complexes making up the most important ion channels and receptor families, fundamental to synaptic function. Improved understanding of these processes is expected to reveal novel therapeutic targets relevant to a range of disease states. The first section of the book contains three chapters dealing with cation channels and provides an accessible, succinct and comprehensive account of what is known about the structures and the assembly and targeting of these multimeric proteins. The focus of the book then moves on to cover ligand-gated ion channels with two chapters on acetylcholine receptors. The final section of the book contains four chapters covering the excitatory and inhibitory amino acid receptors. Receptor and Ion-Channel Trafficking provides an integrated overview of the significant recent advances in the field of molecular neurobiology and will be essential reading for all researchers in neuroscience, neurobiology, biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology.
