Although interesting for the idle reader, this book is a valuable resource for those writing in the period setting, with its detailed descriptions and illustrations of items considered mundane in this era but no longer in use today. Also a priceless resource for the reenactment community.

Wonderful introduction to glass painting.......1999-08-22

This is a wonderful introduction to the basics of glass painting. Color photo and step-by-step instructions help guide you through a wide variety of techniques.

The book starts out by quickly demonstrating many basic techniques as well as covering safety & materials. Some techniques include outlining, marbling, blending, adding gems, frosting, gilding, & using a self-adhesive lead or gel.

There are many great multi-cultural projects for learning each technique. These include an Asian floral plate, Tiffany window panel, Celtic knotwork frame, Victorian rose bowl, Egyptian bookmark, & a mosaic box.

Templates accompany each project. There are a few extra templates given for each style as well. Though it may take some practice to create a masterpiece, this is definitely the book to get you there.

More misadventures of my favorite Viking.......2002-04-12

This 4"x7" paperback book is a collection of Hägar the Horrible comics by the incomparable Dik Browne (1917-89). Here in this book are many adventures of Hägar, his friend Lucky Eddie, his formidable wife Helga, his beautify though self-conscious daughter Honi, his bookish son Hamlet, his ever-relaxed dog Snert, and Hägar's less than competent crew. In this book, Hägar must face an evil magician, a Scottish curse, and repeated (rather unsuccessful) attempts to educate both Hamlet and Snert

Recently, while digging through an old box full of books, I came across several of my treasured Hägar books, of which this is one. My children (girl eleven, boy eight) grabbed it away from me, and were soon happily reading the jokes out loud to all present. It is so nice to see that Hägar can entrance the young of today, much as he did me. My children and I agree that the best cartoon in this book is when Hägar shows Hamlet how to skip stones, bouncing them off a rock in the center of the lake (the underwater dragon rubs his head and says "Hägar's back!"). My wife enjoyed Helga's further schooling of Honi (no spoilers this time!).

We all love this book, and you will too. If you can get it, then do so!

An insightive work into ancient Nordic bathtime and leisure........1999-03-17

Years of archeological study has prepared me to answer that Dik Browne's insights into this ancient culture has turned the current theories into ancient Viking life on it's head.

It was thought of by revisionist historians for the longest time that vikings did not wear horned helmets or waged war at every opportunity. This latest work shows proof that these ancestrial beserkers did, in fact, do all this and more.

New evidence has been brought to life that these people had a complex family life, enjoyed food and drink in large quantities, and had managed to domesticate the common Duck as well as the familiar canines.

Brownes work is based upon the preserved record of an ancient family as kept by the eldest son. Brownes magnificent rendering of this family group includes the patriarch, Hagar; his wife, Helga; their daughter and son, pets, mother-in-law, and Hagar's best friend, Lucky.

As both a historian and an archeoligist, I highly recommend this study to any of my colleages. Huzzah!

I have several apartments and condos. Though I am well versed with the real estate laws in Mass., this book is a great reference for me. Any landlord in Mass. should have this book, it is easy to read and understand. Dealing with the court system can be a nightmare if you are not prepared, believe me. If you don't have everything in proper order, you lose. This book will assist you in what are your responsiblities are, you can bet your tenant does. Beware of the professional tenant! Plus, the book gives helpful hints to make your life a little easier.

My husband and I own a two-family house near Boston. This book has been very helpful in knowing what we are legally responsible for. We also used the forms included. Since purchasing this book, we've realized we are much more detail-oriented than most landlords. Tenants have many rights that landlords simply ignore that could really hurt them in the end. Courts don't accept "ignorance" as an excuse from landlords. This book is well worth it and easy to understand for a landlord interested in the legalities of smaller residential and commercial properties.

New advances in cancer treatment are exploding on the scene, and Dr. Dooley and Marian Betancourt have outlined them clearly in this book. It's cutting-edge science, explained in plain English.

I purchased this book for an associate intending to skim through it. It is very well written and "user friendly." I found myself reading the entire book. The chapters direct you to the specific site of cancer the individual is interested in. Standard treatments are discussed but the newer exciting, promising developments for all cancers are detailed. One can find the expert physicians and cancer centers where clinical trials are ongoing. Web sites and telephone numbers are given as contact information.Support groups are detailed. It is uplifting and provides hope. Don't read this book if you are looking for "quackery". I hope the author provides updates with a second edition! Thanks a lot.

The Coming Cancer Breakthroughs.......2002-06-20

This book was a wonderful help to me and my family. A very close friend told me that she had lung cancer. She was told by her doctor to wait and see. I told her about this book and gave her a copy. She was able to find the latest treatments for her type of cancer in the book. It even had the name of the specialist doing that work in her city. "The Coming Cancer Breakthroughs" gave her hope and she felt empowered by the information she found in this wonderful book. She was able to ask her doctor all of the right questions, and with him, find an experimanetal new treatment for her disease. Without this book, she would never have started the process that eventually heped her so much.

Mr. Asch is obviously a thorough and competent specialist of the period. It seems to me that he is writing essentially from a German perspective, which is not a bad thing, but his thorough expositions, chapter by chapter, lack the additional dimension one would expect to find in a book describing such an amazing period of European history. In other words, this is accurate, solid stuff but after a while, it takes some effort to labour through the rest of the book. Historians can't be expected to write page turners, but still !

The Beginning of the States!.......2000-12-26

The Thirty Years War by Ronald Asch is a very good book on the subject of the political forces and their interaction that came to be called the "Thirty Years War". He looks at not only the policies of the major actors in Europe at that time but also at the area of religion and what factor it played in this conflict. I would recommend this book to individuals with a strong understand of the political factors and major European powers of the 17th century. As for others, this book may be a little hard to follow. A map of the region is provided in the front, but I would have enjoyed additional maps encompassing those specific areas that specific chapters covered to be included in those chapters. I would have also liked to see a little bit more of the military aspects of this conflict to be covered in depth. However, even with these minor request, Robert Asch's book is a great reasource covering a interesting period of sometimes forgotten European history. It should be required read for those interested in state politics and to understand how the European states came into existence.

This was a great book! It was helpful to me because im a duck hunter. It would also be great for other duck hunters who dont know their ducks too well. They show all kinds of ducks, and where they breed. It also shows lunes, geese, and even swans. This book is great for curious readers and also big time duck hunters.
