Customer Reviews:
beautiful pictures little theory.......2006-06-29
I thought the book would have been more detailed. There are very beautiful pictures in it but as for the theory there's almost nothing. I would have liked more specific information about visual merchandising: for example how to create good window cases or in store displays. Also a defined visual merchandising strategy could have been mentioned.
Overall, I'm a quite disappointed with the book.
Show Products Well -- Sell More.......2005-08-15
Visual presentation of merchandise has expanded beyond traditional forms in stores and windows and into new businesses. Merchandise presented in an attention-grabbing manner appropriate to the clientele maximizes a store's sales potential. This book is a collection of stores that feature the best of these presentations including apparel and accessories, home boods, specialty items, food and restaurants, the latest Chiristmas windows in New York and more.
The editors have literally travelled the globe looking for stores to highlight. They features stores from Paris to New York, Miami, smaller cities like Lakewood, Colorado, and several stores in Tokyo.
As with other architectural picture books, this book is intended to provide inspiration for you to design your own merchandizing. It's a beautiful book, and only one idea that helps you sell more will easily cover the cost.

Exploring Pastel with Barry Watkin.......2006-08-16
Barry White has succeded in telling his reader, in a very understandable way, as much about pastels that one can learn from a book. He includes many examples of his wonderful work (usually to illustrate a point), as well as ample demonstrations (also illustrated, in a "step by step" style). His work itself is an inspiration.... just knowing that it's possible to do fairly detailed landscapes in pastel (that look like oil paintings) was exciting for me.
One of the best pastel books.......2003-08-02
It provides clear and simple instructions in using pastel to create beautiful paintings. Most of the instructions are focused on landscape paintings with a couple of flowers and still life. Basically, it is one of the best pastel books I ever had.

Book Description
In the Make Money series, renowned real estate investor and bestselling author Gary W. Eldred shows you how to profit from the safest, most reliable wealth builder in the world-real estate. With coverage of all the fundamentals-from finding the right properties to financing and managing them-Eldred shows you the ropes so you don't have to learn important lessons the hard way. Unlike general guides to investing in real estate, each title in the Make Money series gives you the specialized expertise necessary to fully profit from a select investment strategy.
Make Money with Condominiums and Townhouses shows homebuyers and investors how to travel the road to real estate wealth-often with little or nothing down. As an affordable investment vehicle, condominiums and townhouses offer numerous advantages over other types of rental property-they require relatively little day-to-day management, they tend to attract more desirable tenants than other rental properties, and they offer low risk and high returns. Full of time-tested techniques and proven money-making strategies, Make Money with Condominiums and Townhouses will show you how to:
- Relax while you put your money to work
- Find properties with high rates of appreciation
- Evaluate homeowner association finances
- Choose profitable locations
- Understand the changing demographics that may affect your investment
- Finance your properties with little or no money down
- Achieve positive cash flow quickly
- Build up equity
- Understand by-laws, disclosure statements, and management contracts

Customer Reviews:
A reasoned voice in the huckster crowd.......2004-05-08
My review title pretty well sums it up. Eldred presents a well reasoned argument for investing in condos. He provides solid advice on the pertinent subjects, including tenant and association selection. And he does it with an encouraging tone that doesn't digress into pie in the sky hype.
I think I'll check out some of his other work.

Book Description
"There was never any doubt in my mind that if I went after osteoporosis, I could control it and lead a healthy life. That's my message to other women: No one can do this for you-you've got to do it for yourself. And you can." (Ann Richards)
Forty-four million Americans, thirty million of whom are women, will face osteoporosis in some form. Often triggered by hormonal changes that occur after menopause, osteoporosis results in the fracturing of bones, which can prove fatal to the elderly. One out of every six affected women will break her hip; only one out of three will regain her independence.
In 1994, after falling and fracturing her hand, Ann Richards went for a bone density test. She was diagnosed with osteopenia, an early stage of osteoporosis. After witnessing both of her grandmothers and her mother fall victim to the disease, Richards was determined to overcome its incapacitating effects. She began a physician-approved regimen of medication and dramatically changed her lifestyle.
In I'm Not Slowing Down, the former Texas governor, known for her saucy straight talk, and leading osteoporosis authority Sydney Lou Bonnick tell women what they need to know to combat this devastating disease. Nearly a decade after her original diagnosis, Richards's bone density remains essentially stable. Readers will benefit from advice on everything from diet to exercise to the individual histories that must precede the implementation of any bone-building program if women are to begin the second act of their lives with strength, agility, and confidence.
Customer Reviews:
Unacceptable book.......2007-01-21
Not only is the information in the book completely out of date since the hormones (Provera) have been shown to be dangerous and not to help bones or heart, but to my deep disappointment, Ann Richards, it is disclosed, was a spokesperson for the pharmaceutical company who manufactured the hormones!
Women over 50--a must read.......2003-09-30
This is an excellent, very current overview of this all too common disease and its treatment. Let's face it--we're all responsible for our own health, few of us use the same physician for our whole adult lives, and education is a must. Most of us are generally aware of this disease, but did you know: that hip fractures are really breaks in the femur neck, the top of the thigh bone? that there are several drugs out there to treat this, not just fosamax? that osteoporosis can result from lack of calcium or exercise during childhood? This book explains what those T-scores from your bone density test really mean. Lots of info here too on exercise and diet. A bit less interesting is the personal discussion from Ann Richards on her own life, but that doesn't mar this extremely useful work.
Full disclosure.......2003-09-25
While I found this book to be useful and Ms. Richards' style to be non-technical and engaging, I wish that, before I bought the book, I had seen the statement which is on the reverse of the title page: "Ann Richards is a spokesperson for Eli Lilly, which owns the patent for Evista. Dr. Richard U. Levine, M.D. has been a member of the speakers' bureau for Eli Lilly."
Inspirational!!!.......2003-08-22
I could not put this book down. One would expect a book on Osteoporosis to be a bit dry but Ann keeps it real! You go girl.
The Osteoporosis Bible.......2003-08-14
I just finished this terrific book. I watched my grandmother, and now my mother suffer from osteoporosis. I never totally understood this issue and the fact that it is preventable. I always believed there was nothing that could be done. Now I know the truth. This book explains EVERYTHING! I am calling my
doctor today to schedule an appointment to discuss the various options. I am 47 and just entering menopause. Please, please, everyone reading this review, buy a copy for every woman you know, regardless of their age. Thanks Ann.

Book Description
By the 15th century BC the valley of Hwang Ho was dominated by a palace-based military caste which owed its supremacy to a monopoly of bronze-working techniques among a still mainly Stone Age population. To the Shang Dynasty, war was a means of legitimising the power of their new aristocracy. This fascinating volume by C. J. Peers covers the period of China's history from the first documented civilisation to the establishment of an enduring unified empire, examining the history, organisation, uniform and weapons of ancient Chinese armies.
Customer Reviews:
Good book.......2007-06-22
First of all, the plates are anything but 'bland' but are in fact very exciting. Honestly, I am no expert on ancient Chinese warfare and thus cannot say how accurate they are. Regardless of the plates, the text is extremely useful providing an excellent intro to the subject; exactly what I was seeking when I purchased this book. It covers the ancient and mysterious Shang Dynasty, the Chou Dynasties, and the warring states that were finally united in the 3rd Century BC.
Bizarre reconstructions.......2002-04-23
The text by Chris Peers is OK. The bland artwork by McBride is pretty bizarre. The white tentlike hats reconstructed from pictorial representations of the Han period are wrong. They serve no practical function and only add to a woeful catalog of misinterpretations of Oriental representations by Occidental artists.
A useful book.......1999-06-04
The Men-at-arms Series covers ancient and classical China in five books, all by Chris Peers who is very familiar with the subject. This is the first book of this series. The chapters: Chronology -- The Shang dynasty -- The Western Chou -- The Eastern Chou -- The 4th and 3rd centuries -- The Ch'in empire -- Tactical and strategic doctrine -- Ten decisive battles. The text is clearly written and informative, the drawings by Angus McBride are good, only the maps are a bit primitive and not very useful. The follow-up to this book is "Imperial Chinese Armies 200BC - 589AD" (MAA 284).

Book Description
This is a completely new in-depth field guide to the 1,070 bird species, including North American migrants, found in Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, and western Nicaragua. More than 180 species are endemic to this region and the book details their appearance, voice, habitat, behaviour (including nests and eggs) and distribution. Range maps are included with species accounts, and introductory essays give essential background information, with special appendices summarizing useful information on the avifaunas of various offshore Pacific and Caribbean islands. The Guide's striking illustrations include 71 colour plates and 39 black-and-white drawings, based on the authors' field experience and in many cases detailing plumages never before illustrated. Authoritative and up-to-date, this is an essential reference work for every birdwatchers' collection.
Customer Reviews:
OK, but not great........2007-06-16
As many have said, kind of big and bulky for a "field guide". Lacking pictures of shore birds, sea birds, etc. Has good info as far as habitats, etc.
results of clinical field trial.......2007-03-23
This is the definitive text for any even halfway serious birder in the region covered. Although a bit heavy to lug around in a backpack (especially if you are carrying a spotting scope as well), it is an indispensable reference once you get back.
Note: It does not have illustrations of many birds that are found in the US, so I was very glad that I had brought Sibley's Guide along as well. Between the two, I was able to identify with confidence nearly every bird I saw. If I had had only the smaller field guide, I would have been making a lot of educated guesses.
A Guide to the Birds of Mexico .......2007-03-18
The book has a lot of information on the birds and their habitat. Illustrations of the birds are restricted to the "plates" section.
Almost Excellent.......2007-01-03
This book is excellent for a trip to Mexico; however be warned, some of the most common birds are not pictured in the plates. While all of the species not found in the US have colorful plates, there are no plates for waterbirds such as gulls and no plates for the warblers or flycatchers other than endemics; however, there are descriptions and location maps for all birds found in Mexico. If you visit during migration, and have trouble remembering fall plumage distinctions on migrating warblers, be sure to bring a Sibley or Peterson guide along with you as well!
Packed with information --not user friendly.......2006-09-20
A large volume, not easily used, in the field. The authors presume a good knowledge of North American birds--so you need a Sibley in addition. Unfortunately carrying the Sibley will remind you of how much more difficult to use this volume is.
It lacks any drawings of NA birds such as Little Blue Heron, Tri-colored Heron, Whistling Ducks, Arizona Woodpeckers, Blue-Headed Vireo, Purple Gallinule, numerous sparrows, etc.
Almost no attempt to separate diagnostic marks from more general field marks.
The information on endemics is in here, organized in the Petersen style, plates separated from descriptions and maps. And it is exhaustive in depth.
But as a field guide it badly needs to be reworked in the Sibley fashion or Sinclair's Birds of Southern Africa.
