Disappointingly dated.......2003-04-15
What a disappointingly dated book. i am amazed that amazon is selling this. Had i realized it was this old, I would not have bought it.
Part of my favorite collection.......2000-10-26
A book I turn to for ideas again and again, Contemporary Decorating is a gem. This is truly a classic in this genre. As for Elizabeth Wilhide, I own several of her books. You will not be dissapointed!
Simply one of the best authors on the subject........2000-03-17
Ms. Wilhide has written yet another wonderful book on contemporary decor. Her style is eloquent, simple and beautifully stated. The photography is wonderful and the items pictured are not beyond the reach of the average person. I came away with a much broader knowledge on the topic, full of ideas, and very importantly-how to put it together. If you enjoyed this book, I would suggest Ms. Wilhide's "Lighting: A Design Sourcebook". My next purchase from Amazon will surely be a book by or co-authored by this author!
One of my favorite decorating books.......2000-03-03
This is one of the better coffee table decorating books I own. The photos are superb and the book gives in depth descriptions of material choices for floorings, wall coverings, and windows. It is both a beautiful book and a useful reference.

Excellent for beginners........2001-09-28
It's almost impossible to pick an art book based on others opinions but I personally fell in love with this book. I'm new to figure drawing and this book is just what I need. Not only does it give step-by-step instructions for several classic poses in a variety of mediums but it also provides you with the reference photo (which few figure drawing how-to's seem to do). There aren't a lot of exercises but for the price I'm still happy. A far more comprehensive book you should definitely check out is "The Big Book Of Drawing And Painting The Figure" - it's awesome and a great bargain at amazon!

A social view of New York at the end of the century........1999-08-10
This book is intresting by showing New York trough the season and everyday life (street scene, political meeting, people ...). But pictures are too gray and compare to the works that have been done by other photographers on this extrodinary city we could have expect a more beautiful graphism, beautiful pictures and a higher quality of the print (see the great example of "Signs" from Walker Evans)
great.......1999-07-10
I love this book my aunt and unclemade i
Stunning work!.......1999-07-01
Mr. Ginzburg for me has captured the thing that is New York. I got several of these books as gifts for friends going to the City for the first time. It is much easier than trying to tell them about a city they'll only experience a small piece of.
Fantastic - Pure New York.......1999-04-25
What a phenomenal journey through the greatest city on Earth. Mr. Ginzburg has captured the essence of New York. You must see this book.
How do you capture a thousand stories? With a picture!.......1999-03-20
Beauty, ugliness, joy, tragedy, humor, on and on, and on, Mr. Ginzburg trains his eye on a tiny slice of time and captures in only a few frames the moments, people and places that make New York one of the greatest cities in the world. This book should be in the cornerstone time capsules of all new buildings in New York, as well as an heirloom essetial for every New Yorker's private library. With sharp writing and dynamic visuals the team of Ginzburg and Ginzburg have done it again. If you love New York, or just excellent photography, this book is a must have.

Book Description
There's no time to delay. The year 2000 problem is both deadly serious and frighteningly imminent. And while there's still time to deal with Y2K, it's going to require a monumental effort from everyone--and that includes non-technical professionals like you.
Surviving the Computer Time Bomb is the first book to help managers both comprehend the magnitude of this looming problem and develop intelligent action plans for preparing for it. As the book lucidly explains, this is not just another computer problem for your technical experts. Many of the crucial decisions--such as deciding which systems warrant a year 2000 upgrade, creating contingency plans for replacing systems that unexpectedly fail, and assessing the Y2K readiness of your key suppliers--are business issues that only you can address.
With Surviving the Computer Time Bomb, you'll sift through the IT's community's wildly contradictory predictions of what's in store for us...realistically troubleshoot the kinds of problems you're likely to encounter...and successfully perform your vital role in fixing the problem, including how to: * enlist the support of senior management in making Y2K a top priority * reduce defections among programmers and IT managers * defend yourself against the inevitable barrage of Y2K lawsuits * integrate the year 2000 problem into every aspect of your business strategy.
To keep essential systems from falling victim to a year 2000 malfunction, you can't drag your feet, and you can't pass off your responsibility. Let Surviving the Computer Time Bomb lead you to sensible decisions about effectively preparing for--and radically minimizing--the impact of Y2K.

Customer Reviews:
Some uncommon common sense.......2007-08-21
This book is written succinctly about property management. There is no lull or fluff. As a real estate investor and developer, I've got notes all over the book as Melissa Prandi makes the uncommon common as there is a LOT involved with proper management. Managing rental property is not as easy as it sounds and the author sheds light and ideas all throughout.
Buy this book as the smallest management correction may be your biggest savings. It was for me in having roommates fill out applications (big headache and dorm room prior).
Must Read For New Landlords.......2007-07-30
There are tons of landlord books, but many of them are boring to read or leave out important advice that new landlords need to know about. Melissa's book is easy to read and full of great ideas. My copy is bursting at the seams with sticky notes for things I need to do.
Going Back to Bacis and Then Some.......2006-10-30
This book brings you back to the basics and then gives you tips GALORE. You can tell this book was written from first hand day to day experiences of being in the business daily. Her tips are great and I found quite useful. I think this book is a good one to keep nearby so when you forget the professional tips you can bring out the book to refresh your memory. I think this book is great for property managers and investors new and seasoned.
I found this book easy to follow and great to refer to for all aspects in the business. You can read it and be familiar prior to purchasing property too.
Easy to read book for new investors.......2005-10-25
This book covers the basics with a few novel ideas. Many of the ideas are common sense. A property manager would do well if he/she followed the ideas in this book. I recommend this book for a first time buyer of income property. The book does have some information on the long-term strategic management of a portfolio of properties. Both new and experienced investors sometime lack that type of thinking.

The Joy of Sex may have landed you here, but The Joy of Fatherhood is something else entirely. This well-indexed guide to a baby's first year walks fathers through everything from taking a child's temperature to processing complicated emotions with their (exhausted) partners. Written by Marcus Jacob Goldman, a Harvard-trained psychiatrist, the book efficiently addresses nuts-and-bolts concerns such as bathing, diapering, feeding, and child-proofing. These topics are the mainstay of the "what to expect" genre, but Goldman's manual is distinctive when focusing on Dad's own feelings and development during this exciting year. He is particularly smart about how to invite pals into a new, baby-centric life: "Teach them how to hold your baby," he advises. "Get them acquainted with your new life by involving them in it." If there is a flaw, it's that Goldman consistently assumes Mom is the primary caregiver, which will probably put off some full-time dads. On the other hand, the book abounds in personal testimonies, so most fathers are bound to find a voice that reminds them of their own. And with regular features like "What Is Your Baby's Day Like," which offers concrete, unbiased information that makes for fun reading, this book will be a valuable resource for new dads with lots of questions. --Kathi Inman Berens

Fabulous book!.......2007-07-03
I reviewed this book before my purchase as a gift to my son in law. He's about to become a father...The contents are comprehensive and full of very good tips and insights along each stage of development...I'll give you the full review after he reads it all...
He Has The Experience And The Ability.......2003-08-17
Easily out does any of the fathering books on the market. It is to the point, smart, funny and accepting. It gives direction and guidence without attitude. I appreciate the author's style and the ease at which I can quickly read the book. It is a book written for men, by a man (no co-authors) with plenty of children (unlike some books touting expertise without substance) and experience. Outstanding.
Thanks from the temporarily reluctant dad!!!!!!!!.......2003-08-17
Well, I really think I needed this book. I was anxious to say the least but when the baby arrived, i had no idea what to expect or what to do. My wife's books did not apply to me. I had a lot of mixed feelings about the whole thing but could not tell anyone about it. Dr. Goldman's book was the only one that seemed to let me feel what I wanted or needed to feel. I wasn't filled with joy automatically. A lot of people have been attacked for having one feeling or another or not having certain feelings-especially in the delivery room. I am in love with my baby now but I'm glad that it's ok to let those feelings develop without the guilt. That's not to say that the book is full of doom and gloom--it's NOT--it was ME that was full of doom and gloom...at first. There were some things in the book that made it ok for me to have mixed thoughts for a while. The book was a breath of honest, fresh air!! What a relief. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!
A FIVE STAR BOOK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2003-08-17
Wonderful for men, great for women!! Gives multiple perspectives on what to do. I loved it and my husband couldn't put it down!!!! Great humor as well! There should be a movie!!!!!!!!
Something For Everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2003-08-13
Three cheers for Dr. Goldman!!!!!! Yes, there is clearly something for everyone in this marvelous book for both dads and moms! Couldn't have kept my sanity without it!!! Thanks!!!

Book Description
For the men of the Army Air Corps in early World War II, the chance of surviving the obligatory twenty-five missions without death, injury, or imprisonment was one in three. In this groundbreaking book, Rob Morris has sought out remarkable but little-known stories of the air war from the men who lived and fought it.
Based on hundreds of interviews with American veterans and their families, Untold Valor illuminates the courage of airmen whose exploits have until now remained untold. Read about Jewish aviatorsâ experiences as POWs in German camps. Learn about American airmen who were imprisoned, even killed, by the neutral Swiss and about two Air Corps enlisted men who changed U.S. policy toward liberated concentration camp survivors. Also discover the unusual story of Luftwaffe commander Herman Goeringâs nephew, who flew B-17 missions against Germany. While some of the stories cover major events, most are about incidents and individuals misrepresented or overlooked by history books. Yet their efforts were vital, their lives forever changed.
Detailed and moving, Untold Valor is certain to interest the serious air historian and the casual reader alike. With a foreword by the editor of Bâ17s Over Berlin.
Customer Reviews:
WHAT DID YOU DO IN THE WAR GRANDAD?.......2007-07-17
Rob Morris has brought together accounts of service men during World War II which would probably never be known had he not talked to the very ones who went through this costly war. With these vets dying at a rate of 1000 to 2000 per day, the title to this review will not be able to be asked in the near future. This book tells about the everyday living and dying these heroes did to give us the freedom we too often take for granted. I have been a WWII history buff for as long as I can remember, but this book brings out accounts of World War II I have never heard of.
Thanks Ron for bringing these truths out.
A fantastic read, which I will be glad to add to my library.
Garry Grier
A Valuable Addition to WWII Literature.......2007-07-03
Untold Valor is the very aptly-chosen title of the marvelous book by author Rob Morris. After years of research, Morris has told some of the most hidden stories of WWII. The stories, unfamiliar to many who seek WWII reading material, reflect the sacrifice, suffering, triumph and yes, valor of the subjects. Morris's painstaking and thorough research ensures that the stories are accurate as they reveal previously-unknown facets of the WWII experience.
Far beyond the traditional wartime stories, Morris focuses on the untold experience of the Jewish POW, for instance, carrying the added burden of fear of reprisals from an anti-Semitic dictator. He tells of brave crews who survived the chilling and notorious Schweinfurt raid losing so many of their Blood 100th comrades. And Morris sought out and discovered a most unlikely and unexpected B-17 pilot following his movements throughout the war.
The author has brought to light the issue of the Swiss internees who found that neutral Switzerland was not the safe haven and refugee they had expected it to be. The reader is taken into the heart of Switzerland with ex-internee, Dan Culler, as he endures one of the most harrowing confinements in a non-enemy country, only to lose the support of his own country at the war's end. In some instances, Morris ventures to take a hard look and give in-depth analysis of the strategic bombing policy during the war succinctly pointing out its flaws and the circumstances that caused the curtailment of bombing raids on oil refineries.
Few ever asked what happened to the displaced persons rescued from Hitler's death camps. Many, turning a blind eye to them, failed to recognize their pitiful plight. Morris hits hard on the subject and through the medium of story telling gives an informative account and narrative on this seldom-researched area.
Follow the story of the lesser-known "Hell's Angels, the B-17 that for so long was relegated to the shadows of the more famous Memphis Belle, and vicariously share the trek of an American POW on an Austrian road who by chance witnessed the horror that befell an Hungarian Jew forced laborer. Decades later that chance meeting would result in one of the most famous WWII images--a picture drawn by the American, which would grace Holocaust Museums and synagogues around the world.
Only through meticulous research and the strong desire to ferret out the lesser-known stories and heroes of WWII can one achieve what Morris has achieved with this book. One moment the reader is commiserating with the interned crews in Sweden and Switzerland, and the next moment that reader is flying through the flak-riddled skies on a bombing run aside a dedicated ball turret gunner.
Morris's book is a classic that will keep a reader spell bound as it pays tribute to the carefully-chosen heroes he introduces as he tells their unforgettable stories. In the re-telling, he salutes all our WWII heroes.
Marilyn Walton
Author of Rhapsody in Junk--A Daughter's Return to Germany to Finish Her Father's Story
Least we forget.......2006-12-24
Flying at 26,000', walking on flack, goggles fogging, the IP, the run, turn to rtb. The flack, the fighters, the hits, exploding planes. Bail out. Capture. Rob Morris tells it all from the interviews of survivors of the brutal days as POW's.
These stories are only a few that could be told but Rob to got to the heart of them. A Jewish crew member flying on a mission over Schweifurt, Gus Mencow was with the group that lost 228 B-17's. On and on as only Rob could pull it together.
A fantastic collection of stories of valor.
Thanks Rob for a memorable book.
Least we forget.
U. S. Bomber Crews Remembered!.......2006-08-11
It's sad to see the ranks of our WWII veterans steadily dwindling away. With them die so many unique memories of now-faraway battles and ordinary men accomplishing extraordinary feats.
That's why it's heartening to come across books like Rob Morris' UNTOLD VALOR. Fascinated by WWII air battles, Morris did just what was needed to save memories of those times, tracking down and interviewing countless veterans who flew in 8th and 15th AF bombers over Europe.
Morris covers a wide variety of American experiences in the air war over Europe, relating stories of Jewish airmen at war, the 'Memphis Belle' vs. 'Hell's Angels' B-17 controversy, 8th AF internees in Switzerland, the story of Hermann Goering's nephew who flew B-17s in the 8th AF, and so on.
It's an interesting collection of stories and a nice tribute to those vets who flew with the 8th and 15th Air Forces.

Book Description
Written by the acknowledged authority on the Anglo-Zulu War, this is the tragic and dramatic story of the death of the last heir to the Imperial throne of France, killed while fighting with the British in the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879, and of the scandal and recrimination which followed his death. A detailed description of the Prince's final skirmish is based on evidence from both sides, some of which has only recently become available. The Carey court-martial and its aftermath, the 'Carey Case', with its effect on the public and the military establishment is discussed in detail and placed in the context of the Victorian era.

Historian Knight Shines in his Telling of this Epic Tragedy.......2003-08-09
To those with an interest in British Colonial wars, particularly the Zulu War of 1879, Ian Knight is known as the preeminent scholar on the subject. His previous books have all been meticulously researched, couching fact within a writing style that makes for an enjoyable read. My interest in the Zulu War has always centered on the heroic major battles, especially the defense of the mission station at Rorke's Drift. Before reading this book I had considered the fate of the Prince Imperial (son of Napoleon III and heir in exile to the throne of France) to be a minor footnote to the text of the greater conflict and the subject held little interest for me. However, after completing the first chapter I had become a convert. I believe the brilliance of this book lies in Knight's ability to balance the instinctual historian within with the wonderful telling of a story. There really is something for everyone. The serious student will encounter information not commonly found in general histories, specifically relating to the impact the presence the Prince Imperial had on officers who were the strategists of the campaign. At times this impact was substantial and all of this rare information is well annotated. Those who wish to be drawn into a great story will not emerge disappointed. Knight deftly weaves the emotional and physical journeys of the key players in their passage to inevitable tragedy. Almost as compelling is the narrative of the fallout within the army from the death of the Prince and the struggle his mother, Empress Eugenie, endures in an attempt to come to terms with his dramatic passing. I would suggest that those unfamiliar with the Zulu War also acquire a copy of Knight's book, "Brave Mens Blood," as this comprehensive overview will provide a vivid context for the events in "With His Face to the Foe." For those with a working knowledge of the war, this is the definitive book on the subject and is a must read!

Spectacular.......2007-04-07
I brought this book to the Antarctic peninsula with me, only to find a copy already aboard ship. It was still worth carrying.
Yes, good photos, but much better for the information. Details on identifying all sorts of animals, including the territories they can be found in at various times of the year, changes in appearance during the year and even a rather comical phonetic approximation of the sounds they might make.
I bought a lot of books in my year prep for this trip. This was one of the best. Must owning for anyone going south of 50 degrees.
Very Well Designed and Informative.......2006-07-01
Lot of great pictures and very informative articles. This book will definitely be with my camara and computer during my trip to Antarctica.
Fine book beautifully produced!.......2005-01-01
Anyone who has read my other reviews will know that I don't give stars easily but I can find no reason even to deduct a single star from this book. Whether you have been, are going or just want to dream of going this is the book for you. As its title indicates, its prime purpose is to describe the wildlife, and it gives top billing to the birds - all in a level of detail which should satisfy the most demanding birder, but which the average interested amateur naturalist should also find interesting. The authors have sensibly provided a fine set of plates rather than relying on photos as the main identification aid. There are however many good photos as well - this use of both "media" is, as far as my experience goes, unusual in bird books which tend to opt for one or the other when in fact each has its advantages and disadvantages. The section on marine mammals is of a similar quality. Another section comprehensively describes each of the regions (including Sub-Antarctic islands all the way up to Tristan) with information which makes the book useful as a "travel guide" for planning and accompanying a trip (though it is really too fine a book to get damaged in use!). In addition there are good (if relatively short) sections on geology, climate, history, botany etc etc - in fact on just about any relevant subject you could think of. Indeed if you could only have 1 book on the Antarctic this is a very good candidate - and at a very good price!
