A Special House.......2006-09-02
What a visual treat this book was. For anyone that has seen a painting of Carl Larsson's home and fallen in love with the clean lines and colors of Scandinavian interiors, this book carries that love to the next level. Wisconsin native Loran Nordgren created a home using the traditional elements like built-in beds, carving, colors, but added some contemporary conveniences. The books chronicles the planning and construction of the house, but the wealth of photos and design ideas have wide appeal.
Scandinavian Delights.......2004-12-15
I give Mr. Nordgren the owner high credit for the obvious mega $$$ he spent to have his Carl Larsson dream home come to life. However I concur with a prior reviewer that the interior decorating is sub-par with oversized furniture & decorator pieces that evoke a Non-Scandinavian feel that appears to conflict with its authetic Scandinavian backdrop of the houses interior details. If it was my money $$$ I would have sought out correct period Scandinavian antiques or had authentic pieces recreated from scratch with a 100% effort to create the Nordic "look". Would recommend the book as a strong buy with great design ideas throughout.
Fantastic read.......2004-09-21
As a lover of the traditional Scandinavian home style, and the owner of four such homes, I found this book truly helpful in decorating all of them. The authors, including Ms. Sears have such an passionate eye for this unique and gorgeous style.
An American Take on the Swedish Style Home.......2003-06-22
This is an excellent pictoral review of a lovely home recently built in the Wisconsin countryside. The book is full of great ideas for both interior and especially exterior architectural details. As an interior and architectural designer, I have stolen ideas extensively for a Scandinavian style home I am working on which is currently under construction. The house featured in the book is beautifully done, but not for those seeking a subtle take on the Swedish/Scandinavian home. Disneyesque could aptly describe the overall look and feel of the home. This is not to say it does not have a great charm, but it slams its design concepts home with no punches pulled. It is an American interpretation and distillation of Scandinavia.
There are a lot of great ideas for color and design for the built interiors, but I found the interior furnishings and accessories to be ameteurish and do not live up to the professional standard of the architecture that contains it. The furnishings are rather middle of the road contemporary country style and do not suit the carefully orchestrated design concepts of the architectural designer. For instance the sofas are large and clunky, and are upholstered in a bland fabric - none of which would ever been found in a house of this type of traditional Swedish home.
With that caveat I highly recommend the book to those who admire the Scandinavian style and especially to anyone planning to design and build a home in this style.
Scandinavian Interior Design.......2001-12-18
As a folk artist, I am interested in European interior design. My interest in Swedish design lies in the magnificient use of color. This book provided what I needed.

Customer Reviews:
Solid basic information.......1999-12-11
The fact of the matter is that IMAGE CONTROL is the ONLY mass marketed book that deals directly with the subject of motion picture lab techniques. And it does provide a solid basic introduction - as it does with all the other subjects of discussion pertaining to the art of cinematography explored in this book. Excellent photos, good examples, a great introductory book. But for those of us looking for more in-depth information. . . sadly enough, you're not going to find it here. Any shooters out there reading this - Lab techniques are an area that have been shrouded in mystery for too long - somebody give Bob Richardson a book contract!

Book Description
How do we define the nature of our business, gather everything that we know about it, and then centralize our information in one, easily accessed place within the organization? Breslin and McGann call such knowledge "our ways of working" and the place where it will be found a "business knowledge repository." All of a company's accumulated operations data, its manuals and procedures, its records of compliance with myriad regulations, its audits, disaster recovery plans--are essential information that today's management needs at its fingertips, and information that tomorrow's management must be sure can easily be found. Breslin and McGann show clearly and comprehensively how business knowledge repositories can be established and maintained, what should go into them and how to get it out, who should have access, and all of the other details that management needs to make the most of this valuable resource and means of doing business. An essential study and guide for management at upper levels in all types of organizations, both public and private. Breslin and McGann show that once an organization's knowledge of itself is formulated into its "ways of working," its so-called object orientation makes it easily maintained. The repository approach to organizing and consolidating knowledge makes it possible for all of its potential users to access it easily, without having to go to one source for one thing they need and to another for another thing, a tedious and costly procedure in many organizations that have allowed their information and knowledge resources to not only grow but become duplicated as well. The repository approach also makes it possible for management to organize and access information by job functions, and to make it available to employees more easily in training situations. Regulators and auditors are also more easily served. As a result, CFOs will find their annual audit and various compliance fees considerably reduced. Breslin and McGann's book is thus a blueprint for the creation of knowledge repositories and a discussion of how graphical communication between information systems creators and their client end users can be made to flow smoothly and efficiently.

Book Description
Mainly based on the author's personal experiences with a variety of organizations, this succinct book presents short cases, anecdotes, and vignettes describing the management of information technology. Information Technology Management includes numerous case studies primarily focusing on business, industry, and government systems. This singular resource serves expert systems managers and information technology managers and developers. Although the material emphasizes those cases involving management relating to expert systems technology, the reader can replace the term "expert system" with "information system" technology in almost all the case studies as many of the lessons generally hold true for information systems.

Customer Reviews:
Helped ME pass the test........2004-10-26
This is an excellent general introduction to the principles of California real estate. I passed the broker's exam on the first try with no experience as a real estate salesperson and no cram course. This book was a great help in preparing for it. A large percentage of the test questions deal with the principles covered in this book.
Horrible explanations.......2003-01-28
This book is not a very in-depth book on the principles of california real estate. It covered topics only very breifly, and really sped through them with not a whole lot of explanation. I would highly advise buying a different book if you intend to pass the CA Real Estate Licensing Exam.

Siblings with can-do attitudes!.......2000-06-15
Is it possible to prevent sibling rivalry from the start? Karen Hendrickson has found two important keys: help the oldest understand the normal wide range of feelings and (what other books lack) give him/her concrete, specific suggestions for successful ways to interact with that strange new creature (and ways to ask for attention from mom and dad). Instead of stopping with infancy, it continues to the challenging toddler years when baby becomes sometimes a playmate, sometimes a "nuisance". As a parent I found less "acting out" because my oldest felt understood and knew what TO do (instead of what NOT to do!) Thanks, Karen!

Book Description
Based upon a wealth of carefully researched and verified documentation from the newly opened archives in East Germany, this riveting book traces the development of German fighter aviation from early single aircraft aerial ambushes to the massed attacks of the Jagdgeschwader I—the battle force that Richthofen developed into a highly effective air weapon. Examining the most celebrated WWI flying ace's role as air fighter, leader and strategist, the author delves deeper than anyone previously to find the truth behind the myths surrounding Richthofen for 70 years. Features never before published personal writings by the Red Baron, including his own Air Combat Operations Manual, along with observations from his comrades, admirers, and enemies. Includes striking full-color and numerous rare archive photos.
Customer Reviews:
Interesting even for non-historians.......2006-01-26
Prior to reading "Richthofen: Beyond the Legend of the Red Baron" by Peter Kilduff, the extent of my knowledge regarding the Red Baron was that he was Snoopy's arch-nemesis and that the name is used on a brand of frozen pizzas. In actuality, he was a very decent and honorable soldier (for Germany during WWI) who was credited with having shot down more enemy planes than any other flier during the war and a pioneer in military aviation tactics. When he was finally shot down and killed at the age of 25 (a young man in contrast to the grossly innacurate depiction on the pizza box!) he had brought down 80 British and French airplanes, and was revered as a national hero in Germany and feared by his enemies elsewhere.
And while the book does a very good job at documenting those he shot down (names, places, dates and times, plane ID #s), that part of it wasn't terribly interesting. In fact I had a hard time getting into the book until about the mid-point. Although I'm not particularly interested in aviation history, I still found it an interesting story and I enjoyed the insights into the man behind the legend. And I agree with the author that his moodiness and change in attitude toward the end of his life had less to do with the head wound he had previously suffered (as is posited on several websites I've since read) and more to do with the fact that he was suffering from "battle fatigue" or "combat stress." Or, as Richthofen's mother put it, "I believe he has seen death too often."
Richthofen: Beyond the Legend of the Red Baron.......2004-10-25
I've been more of a buff of World War Two aviation, but have recently been undergoing a conversion to World War One aviation, and it was with great interest that I read this book, as it is my first on Richtofen. Up until now, I've pretty much known the "legendery" Richthofen: the steely, ruthless Teutonic pilot who roamed the skies in his red Fokker triplane. In particulr, as a Canadian, the whole controvery over his demise, is something that I learned about at a young age. But now that I've read this book, I believe that I have a better, more rounded understanding of the true Manfred von Richthofen. An excellent book, well worth reading.
Good bio, but frankly not much new ground here.......2002-06-22
"Richtofen" purports to "use the newly released archives of the former East Germany" to add some detail to basic outline of Manfred von Richtofen's life. The book does justice to its subject; no doubt about that. The narrative has many first-person accounts, and copious footnotes. But for all that, there's frankly not much REALLY new here at all. Most of what is new is minutae: this victory is not RE8 S/N 05638 but RE8 S/N 61645-type statements.
The author does include the latest research on the Fokker Dr1 and demythologizes that aircraft at least. (Richtofen wasn't overly enchanted with it, contrary to legend, but the fighter he really wanted the DVII wasn't ready.) I was frankly surprised to see a serious gap in the research that I read while living in Germany. The Luftwaffe Surgeon-General pulled Richtofen's medical records out of the archives and made a possibly crucial psycho-physiological profile of him ca 1917/18.
This profile concludes that his head injury sustained in 1917, was serious enough to permanently ground him (even at the time; German medicine in WW1 led the world). He also found evidence that the famous nurse who attended him, Kaetie Obersdorf was a compromise between the Surgeon-General's office and Richtofen/High Command. Finally, and most relevant for Kilduff's book, the profile's author proposes that chronic symptoms from the injury may have impaired Richtofen's judgement: leading to his fatal mistakes on 21 April 1918.
If you have a casual interest in Richtofen or WW1 fighter aviation, this book might be worthwhile. Serious students/enthusiasts of Richtofen will learn nothing substantially new.
A Dry Rendition.......2001-01-31
Mr. Kilduff's book is a thorough review of the facts, but I couldn't help but finding it a bit dry. Technically speaking, the book is very well cross-referenced and foot-noted, making it an easy quick-reference manual. But I felt it lacked personality. There's an over-emphasis on relating a chronological listing of dates, times, places, aircraft types shot down and serial numbers; and the heavy reliance on using German-language terms can bog the narrative down in places. I still find William Burrows' book RICHTHOFEN: A True History Of The Red Baron from 1969 to be an over-all better read. Mr. Kilduff's companion volume THE ILLUSTRATED RED BARON however, is excellent.
The whole history of the Red Baron !.......1999-04-13
Kilduff gives us, in this great book, not only an account of Richthofen exploits, but a general view of air combat in World War II. Deeply researched and rich with actual facts, this is a must-buy book for any real afficionate of air combat.
Book Description
One of the eighteenth century's most vigorous expositions of self-love as a basis for morality.

Brilliant - a Model for Field Guides!.......2007-06-01
After I received my copy of this book, I was blown away by how good it is!
The illustrations are absolutely beautiful. The warblers in particular are so life-like they are looking straight into your eyes warily, seemingly ready to fly off the pages at any moment!
Editing is well done, with clear range maps and all the info you might need about the birds found on the pages right opposite the colour pages where each species is illustrated.
Before these species accounts, the book has an excellent chapter on birdwatching in the region, with detailed information on the key sites of every single country covered, even accompanied by good maps of every island worth visiting. Such a good combination of a field guide and a site guide is very rare indeed.
All in all: perfect!
Whether you are thinking of visiting several or only one of the the countries covered here, this is THE book to take.
