Definitive Study of Residential Houses.......2005-04-12
Bunting's book is definitive, scholarly yet readable. He defines various architectural features, as well as outlining technological and cost elements, of representative 'mansions/townhouses' built in post civil war Boston. It is fascinating. I found it best read through once for the total picture then used as a selective reference (for example: the intersection of the changes in heating technology on design). Photos are provided to illustrate points made.

A great overview for beginners.......2005-11-08
I am a real estate attorney and recommend this book to anyone who is new to the purchase and sale of real estate. This book is a clearly written explanation of the residential real estate purchase process from contract through closing. It will explain the terms used and the steps that must be taken, so that you will be able to understand what is happening and what has to be done. That being said, I would no more recommend that you rely on a self-help book to buy or sell your home, than I would recommend that you do your own electrical work. There is a lot at stake, and if you screw up, you will get burned. Read this book and hire competent professionals.

Interesting reading for those who are looking to buy or sell their own properties. Very general, but some valid points in contract creation.
Real Estate Contracts fully expalined.......2003-03-10
I understand that Attorney Mark Warda has written over 60 books on real estate and the law, and this is just one of those books. He dissects the real estate contract between the buyer and the seller going over each and every clause and explaining its meaning in layman's terms.
Also included in the book are 8 different forms. If you are represented by a competent and knowledgeable real estate attorney, then this book may not be necessary. But if you are buying and selling property without an attorney then this book is a must. The more property you buy and sell the more you need this book. On the other hand if you already have many settlements under your belt this book will not have many new ideas for you.
This book would most benefit the beginner or intermediate real estate investor. I also read another book by the same author on "Land Trusts" and got much more from that book.
Invaluable Tool for real estate investors.......2003-02-20
I have been interested in investing in real estate for a long time and felt confident with all aspects of it except for the contract. I didn't feel like paying a lawyer to draw up a contract that I didn't really understand and that was 9 pages long was the right answer. After reading this book I have started investing using my own contract and containing clauses and ideas presented in this book. My contracts have been reviewed and approved by real estate attorneys who never had a clue that the contract wasn't prepared by an attorney.
A fast, very practical reference for buyers or sellers.......1998-12-18
This book lets you choose how you want to set up your contract.It explains the pros and cons of each clause.Most lawyers would learn a lot from it but it is simple enough for anyone to understand. I loaned one from the library but decided I need one of my own,that's how good it is.

Excellent Battle Study.......2007-01-21
This is a high quality book and an excellent example of Osprey Campaign Series. One of the most important goals of the Osprey series is to allow readers with little or no knowledge of a subject to quickly understand the battle or campaign being studied. In this regard Midway 1942 succeeds very well. The book provides an overview of the battle in an easy to follow, easy to understand manner. All aspects of the campaign are covered from the lead up to the aftermath. Readers will come away with a good grasp of this pivotal battle. The only weak part of the text deals with its description of the initial Japanese strategic situation; Japanese motives were often complex due to internal struggles between the Japanese army, navy, and political factions. Though the author does his best to explain the background situation, novice readers may have a hard time understanding the rational for some of the Japanese strategic actions.
The Osprey series is well known for its remarkable visual material. As always there are lots of excellent photographs and many beautiful drawings, 2D and 3D maps. 3D maps include details of the Japanese air attack on Midway Island, and the attacks on the Akagi and Yorktown. There is also a very interesting photograph (that I had not previously seen) taken just as one of the bombs hits the Yorktown. Oddly, a table giving Japanese battleship statistics was accidentally printed twice. Given the location of the second copy, it is likely that there was suppose to be a table comparing the capabilities of Japanese and US bombers. This would have been helpful, but little is lost without it.

Midway:1942 is a real FIND for modelers for dioramas.......1999-04-08
Osprey Campaign series does it again. Why does it take the British traditionally to hire detail illustrators as good as this series? For the modeler who wants to REALLY display his stuff DIORAMAS do it better.
A good overview, but poorly detailed........1996-11-03
Midway 1942 provides an acceptable overview of the battlebut some of the illustrations are improperly captioned,the author also duplicates some charts for no apparent reason. He also confuses unti designations making it hard to interpret the details he provides. On the positive side this book provides many good pictures and diagrams of Japanese ships and aircraft.

5 minutes that changed the direction of the war........2007-06-04
As author Mark Healy reports, the battle in the Pacific changed tempos at roughly 10:30 A.M. on June 5, 1942. At that time, the American dive bombers hit three of the four Japanese carriers, and basically incinerated the squadrons of Japanese aviators waiting to take off. All three carriers became a caulderon of flames, and the pride of the Japanese fleet went down. The Americans later sank the remaining carrier and a heavy cruiser. All this at the expense of one carrier (Yorktown) and a destroyer. This was a turning point of history. As Healy states, the Japanese were suffering from the disease of victory. They expected they were superior, and lost the battle.
This is a nice picture book with a good summary of the battle. I especially liked the pictures of the carriers prior to the war. Two of the Japanese carriers were huge ships. A nice summary book.

This book was created to fill a niche in Gift Shops more than to be a field guide for Alaskan Birds. It is nicely laid out and well illustrated, but it is just something of an abridged version of Robert Armstrong's Birds of Alaska. If you are a birder and are looking for a book about Birds of Alaska, get the full version. But see my review of that book before buying it. I recommend getting Birds of Alaska, but not as the only field guide you take with you.
I'm not knocking this book, it is nice, but not complete enough to satisfy serious birders.

This is another one of those field guides which list too few species and doesn't give enough information about them to be of much practical use. We tried using it in the field on a trip to SE Alaska and found it useless. If you need a field guide, get a comprehensive one.
