Demos are illustrated as well, including how to use and hold brushes, preparing surfaces. BEATON'S TRUE COLORS REVEALED.......2002-11-01
I BOUGHT THIS BOOK TO ADD TO MY GRETA GARBO BOOK COLLECTION & WAS SATISFIED WITH ITS REVELATIONS. I DON'T ALWAYS BELIEVE WHAT I READ FROM SECONDHAND SOURCES BUT THIS BOOK SEEMS TO BE ACCURATE IN ITS TELLING OF THE LIFE OF CECIL BEATON AS IT RELATED TO GARBO. I WAS PLEASED TO LEARN DETAILS OF GARBO'S PRIVATE LIFE AS A RECLUSE SINCE SUCH INFORMATION IS SCARCE. THE BOOK IS CERTAINLY A GREAT READ AS MR. BEATON WAS QUITE INTERESTING HIMSELF & HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE GARBO IN FIRST PERSON.

a wonderful book.......2005-06-27
I can't understand the previous reviewer's disappointment with this book. I have read many, many movie related books, essays and biographies of all kinds, and found this volume perfectly readable, extremely informative, carefully written, well-balanced and entertaining.
...and fleecing her fans........2003-04-25
This book offers indispensable source material for anybody interested in the love-life of Cecil Beaton, but his diaries are not entirely trustworthy since he was tinkering with his own legend. To give you an idea: Mauritz Stiller is dismissed as unimportant, John Gilbert, the man who really love Garbo is only mentioned marginally and always in an insulting way, Mercedes de Acosta and George Schlee would hardly feel flattered either, and Garbo herself emerges from this book as a , er, bore..."Loving Garbo" is just a morcel thrown at those fans who want to read every line ever written about their idol. For the main menu turn to BARRY PARIS: GARBO.

Book Description
Marketing management support systems are designed to make marketing managers more effective decision makers in this electronic era. Developments in information technology have caused a marketing data explosion, but have also provided a powerful set of tools that can transform this data into applicable marketing knowledge. Consequently, companies are making major investments in such marketing decision aids.
This book is the first comprehensive, systematic textbook on marketing management support systems. The basic issue is the question of how to determine the most effective type of support for a given marketing decision maker in a particular decision situation.
The book takes a demand-oriented approach. Decision aids for marketing managers can only be effective if they match with the thinking and reasoning process of the decision makers who use them. Consequently, the important questions addressed in this book are: how do marketing managers make decisions; how can marketing management support systems help to overcome several (cognitive) limitations of human decision makers; and what is the most appropriate type of management support system for assisting the problem-solving methods employed by a marketing decision-maker?

Book Description
Pay a lower commission-and keep more of your money!
Most homeowners assume that everyone pays the same six percent on Realtor commissions. But, in fact, some people pay much less and some people pay much more. And with today's overheated housing market, it seems like most homes practically sell themselves. Is it really worth paying a Realtor tens of thousands of dollars to find a buyer for a home that's in high demand?
There are actually many ways to lower the commission you pay-all it takes is knowledge of the selling process and basic negotiating skills. In this helpful, comprehensive guide, Robert Irwin teaches you everything you need to know to get a better deal. He presents a detailed, precise explanation of how the commission system works, and proven strategies and tactics for keeping more of your equity.
You'll learn how to lower-and even eliminate-the commission by taking advantage of such little known options as:
- Using a discount agent
- Negotiating for rebates or reduced rates
- Offering flat fees or cash bonuses
- Basing commissions on speed of sale and other factors
- Creating your own listing agreement
- Paying for services rendered rather than percentage
- Finding a buyer yourself and paying only for the closing
Six percent doesn't sound like much. But for many homeowners, six percent is a fortune better spent on something else. In a booming real estate market, it pays to consider the alternatives-and you'll find them all in this handy, helpful guide.

A simple guide for homeowners who want to cut out the middleman
Six percent doesn't sound like much. But for homeowners paying an agent six percent of the value of their home, six percent is a fortune better spent on something else. In a hot real estate marketa market in which most houses sell in a matter of weeksit pays to consider alternatives to the six percent fee. This book provides all the available options and tells readers how to hire an agent at a lower commissionusing flat fees, basing the commission on price of the property or speed of the sale, using cash bonuses, and more. Readers will not only learn how to lower the commission they pay, but also how to get a higher price when selling and take advantage of the capital gains exclusion. The commission is one of the largest expenses homeowners will pay when they sell, this book shows them how to lower that expense so that they can get the best return on their investment.
Robert Irwin (Westlake, CA) has written more than 50 books on real estate, including Improve the Value of Your Home Up to $100,000 (0-471-22669-6). His Tips and Traps series has sold more than one million copies.

Customer Reviews:
ZERO stars, or worse.......2003-05-30
WARNING: Lee Burbidge IS a "sleazy salesman", through and through. I worked for him and his sons for a few years, and became very intimately acquainted with their business practices. Lee's son Brae, by the way, interestingly enough also posted a review on this page (see the September 10th entry). I'd be suspect of any review of this "book" posted from their homebase of Utah. The Burbidge's are not interested in providing quality services to the public. They are long-time seminar shysters who will take advantage of anyone unlucky enough to wander into their web.
Apply the cost of this towards a real-estate attorney.......2000-06-16
I can guarantee the people that sold their houses in one day didn't need this "book" to do it. They would have sold regardless. There's very little real information in here. It basically tells you to clean up your house and make it presentable (common sense). Most of the audio talks about writing a newspaper add (just read some of the ones by realtors and mimic their styles). It really lacks the most important information needed by any home seller, marketing. Newspaper ads can work, but it shouldn't be the only technique used. The author doesn't even touch other areas of marketing like flyers, grocery stores, local businesses, the internet, or sending letters to all your neighbors offering a finder's fee. He also assumes everyone sells houses in the summer and fails to talk about what to do in the off peak times.
Most of the photocopied examples you can get from any decent real-estate attorney. Since you'll probably hire one anyway, save your money on this waste of paper.
Business Builder.......2000-05-27
I'm a real estate agent who work mostly with Buyer, a Buyer Agent. I use the package to introduce myself to "for seller by owners" because I know that most of them need help in selling their house and that they will become buyers when they do. This "for sale by owner" package has been successful for me as well as the people I give one too. It is a great well done workbook, video and audio tape presentation. It teaches the basics in easy to understand terms. I recommend it to agents who are looking for business builders and to anyone who is trying to sell their own home. It is easy for anyone who is new to the real estate field to understand and use. Buy it and try it. It works for professionals who are providing service added marketing and for the new comer.
Look for a different book.......2000-05-17
Don't buy this!
The "book" is a bunch of photocopied papers, many of which are just there as space filler (e.g., a ream of sample appraisal forms -- you already saw these when you bought your house, there's no need to see multiple pages of the appraisal form for another propert).
The video is especially bad; it just drips sleaze. It conveys the image of the sleazy salesman remininscent of the cheap promotional videos that you'll occasionally catch on the TV.
Great Book.......2000-05-10
I bought the kit and followed the instruction. With some luck, I sold my house in one day open house. The kit is still brand new. I am going sell it in the auction site. Thanks to the author. It is my first time selling house by my own and I know nothing about the selling before I got this kit. It is a wonderful experiences.

Not sexy, but important.......2002-06-17
Logistics are the engine of war, but because the movement of troops, ammo, and fuel don't get the average reader's blood moving, it's often overlooked in the literature.
This study gets into the details of why logistics remain incredibly important, even with the technological advances of the modern era, and the story is told in a very detailed and interesting way. It's also comprehensive historically, covering the ancient campaigns of Alexander all the way up to NATO operations in Europe.
Logistics and War.......2000-09-16
Thompson takes a good look at the effect logistics had on different wars, throughout history. The book is a good read for the history and for the look at a different part of war. He shows how great leaders understood the importance of taking care of their soldiers. The book is a quick read thorough most of it. Its a little slow toward the end with to much tactical detail.
Overall, it a good book to read for a historic look at the logistic side of war.

Few people, writes Scott Weidensaul, are apathetic toward raptors. Once you've seen a hawk or a falcon or an eagle in action, you're likely to take an interest in how these great birds of prey make their homes in the world. If that interest has seized you--and well it should--then Weidensaul's encyclopedic guidebook to the world's principal raptor species, well illustrated with photographs, maps, and charts and full of detailed information, is an ideal companion.
Weidensaul addresses a range of questions, including the antiquity of the world's raptor species and their evolutionary history. (In this matter, his text is thoroughly up-to-date and includes the results of recent genetic research by which carrion-feeding New World vultures have been reclassified as relatives of the stork, and not of predatory hawks, eagles, and falcons.) He traces the fortunes of species such as the peregrine falcon, which had all but disappeared in North America by the 1960s owing to hunting, habitat destruction, and the use of deadly pesticides, but which has returned to the wild thanks to a vigorous program of reintroduction. Other success stories await, and Weidensaul offers helpful notes on building nest platforms and boxes, aiding injured birds, contributing to conservation groups, and otherwise seeing to it that raptors flourish. --Gregory McNamee
Book Description
A full-color, indispensable, and entertaining guide.
Customer Reviews:
A great read!.......2005-12-25
This book is a great book for people who want to learn more about raptors. It is a lot of information that is very useful, and like the title indicates, this book is quite comprehensive. I would recommend this book in addition to Raptors by John Hendrickson.
Packed with fine details any avid birder will relish.......2001-03-06
This exquisite guide will find a home in any public library and many a personal library: it covers over 300 species of raptors, blending the latest natural history facts and scientific research with photos and details of the birds in nature. From population and distribution statistics to accounts of items recovered from nests and nesting habits, Raptor Almanac is packed with fine details any avid birder will relish.
A clarification from the author.......2001-01-02
Potential buyers need to be aware that this volume is a reissue of my 1996 book "Raptors: The Birds of Prey," which the publisher has released with a new title and cover art, but with no changes to the content. I am embarrassed to see that they have promoted it as though it was a new book; while I'm pleased the book is again in print, I believe they should have been more forthright in making clear that it is a reissue instead of an entirely new work -- Scott Weidensaul. (Ignore the star rating, please -- the review would not post without it.)
