aalto is the master, and this book prove it. Now days with the sustainble issue everywhere this architect raises from the grave, almost a century ahead of his time the finland master takes over with the holistic aproach to the discipline.

This is a fabulous book for real students of modernism. This monograph goes beyond the handful of buildings we're used to seeing by this great architect. Aalto appears to be getting his just rewards these days as more and more of us return to his work.

i bought this book hopeing to learn something about building picture framing, what i wanted an what i got was not even close. if you are a woodworker "which i am" an just looking for some woodworking plans to go by then this is for you. But if you are like me an wanting to learn something new to add to your portfolio, than this is not the book for you.
my advise is to keep looking. at the same time that i bought this book i also bought home book of PICTURE FRAMING by Kenn Oberrecht, as soon as i finish i'll let you know how that goes.....

Bought it for school. Enjoyed the other books I bought, but this one put me to sleep. Written more for a professional academic or corporate board member (I enjoy much more pragmatic books).

I really enjoyed the book for the most part. There are some great topics discussed. I especially enjoyed the chapter on nonprofit/corporation alliances. The downside: I thought the two chapters regarding Boards were lacking. Overall, it's definately worth checking out.
To much money for the lack of versatility.......2001-06-16
The book is great. But, the E-book has a lot of inconveniences comparing vs. a regular book, such as:
1.- You are unable to print the file (Make a hard copy) 2.- You only can read it from the equipment you downloaded (If there is a way to use it in others, it's very hard to find Believe me !) 3.- You must read it only at the monitor 4.- If you don't like it. (At this time) you can't return the item. (Amazon Policies). 5.- It cost the same as a normal book.

The book is solid and accurate review of some crucial questions nonprofits are dealing with today. Anybody interested in topics as leadership, financial matters, founding, strategic alliances, entrepreneurship, excellence in performance and establishing trust in the field of the non-profit business, will benefit from reading a particular chapter or the whole book. Different authors, all experts in their fields, with practical axperience participate to a wide focus of the topics in question. What is missing in my opinion is maybe an article dealing with internal marketing - the nonprofits are mostly services and in this field a performance is inevitably linked to people performing the service.

The author has taken on a task rather complicated for the ordinary homebuyers (the buying process) and broken it down into understandable segments. The concept and approaches are good. First time homebuyers will find it useful while experienced investors, like me, will not feel boring. This is one of those books that makes you wake up everyday and appreciate everything you have, espeically your freedom. Sakakida's inner strength must have been tremendous to stand up to the torture, stress, starvation and disease that he endured. And he still continued to do his duty and send intellegence back to the US forces.
The author presented the material in a good straight forward manner that included other sources to back up and bring context to Sakakida's story. Especially interesting was the subtle nuances of Japanese culture and tradition that brought out how complex their social interaction is. Also that in every nationality there are good soldiers and bad soldiers and kindness and respect can be found even in the worst of circumstances.
I highly recommend this book, a very good read.

My favorite field guide so far. Easy to use and good photos. It can be hard to "look" up a bird as they are arranged by color only rather than type and color. I have had some trouble finding a bird based on color for instance: I will see a bird that I consider mostly brown, but the book considers the bird to be mostly gray. So you have to check all possible colors for the bird.

I was soo addicted to my old Peterson guide, and I bought this for my Mom, who loves the format. After using it a few times, I like it better. Its a good little, usable field guide. Now we keep three bird books in a basket with two sets of glasses everytime we sit out in the yard. Mom grabs this one first, then I wrestle it away from her. Pity summers ending.
wish I could buy a copy of his birds of Willamette valley on amazon.

I like this book because it is simple and easy to use. Because it is color coded by birds. Its great for the beginner birder. Plus it let's you check off the birds you have seen in the back of the book. I would definatly recommend this book to any beginner birder as their first book of purchase!

This is a great book to have. NO COLOR pictures, but I use it to learn more about the birds I have already identified with my field guides. Highly recommend it if you are learning about birds in our State. Information on diets, nesting, migration and very detailed areas of sightings.

Birds of Oregon: A General Reference.......2003-08-20
If you live in the Pacific Northwest and have more than a passing interest in birds, you'll eventually invest in this book. It is not a field guide. It has very few illustrations. It is a reference. As such it is filled will information on distribution, phenology, behavior and much more regarding the 480 plus birds that have, so far, been recorded in Oregon. There is no other modern source like it, at least for Oregon. The last reference to come close was written in 1940 (Gabrielson and Jewett's Birds of Oregon).
Is it perfect? No. Many of the distribution maps generated from the Oregon Breeding Bird Atlas are suspect. A few of the accounts are, arguably, incomplete. Many authors contributed to the final work, this is no a criticism in and of itself given the number of accounts that had to be written, but this has led to some inconsistencies in completeness. For example, Ring-billed Gull shows up on the Breeding Bird Atlas for the lower Columbia River, but this is not mentioned in the written account.
Nit picking aside, this is a impressive work. The bibliography alone makes it worth the price.
