5 out of 5 stars All of these books are by the same publisher!.......2006-09-07

The publisher of all the books you list is the same publisher as the book Courtney Nolan edited. There is no mention of these other books in the byline but they are most certainly mentioned in the acknowledgments. Lots of books out there are repurposed from other books all by the same publisher. Obviously you were not aware of this.

1 out of 5 stars RIP OFF-this book is re-print of other books...........2006-07-11

I wanted to let other buyers know-this book is a reprint of a collection of three other rubber stamping books:

making gifts with rubber stamps by sandra mccall

rubber stamp extravaganza by vesta abel

30 minute rubber stamp workshop by sandra mccall

NO WHERE does this state this on the cover OR online.

So, if you bought it online, like me, there is no way of knowing this is a reprint(absolutly NO new info in book).

I already own the other three books so I feel doubly tricked.

On top of everything else-the book is reprinted almost completely in black and white, with only a few color photos in the middle of the book AND they reprinted shortened versions of the instructions!

They should be ashamed to have put out this mess!

Save your money and buy one of the actual three reprinted books instead:(

Nancy's book is one of those "must have" books for all rubber stampers. It is not just another pretty book, full of glitzy "look what I made" projects. It is an information-packed book about the bare bones of stamps, stamping, and supplies, including detailed instructions on subjects such as how to make your own stamp pads.

I consider this book one of my basic stamping resources; I refer to it again and again. Stamping styles come and go -- this book will never be out of fashion.

Store-bought rubber stamps offer endless possibilities, but the expense involved in amassing a collection can add up pretty quickly. For crafters looking to indulge in stamping without the investment, this little guide offers a simple solution: make your own. Cork, sponges, erasers, foam, string, leaves, fruits, vegetables, even ceiling tile all make great stamps. The authors supply patterns for all their hand-cut stamps, which they sprinkle liberally over paper, fabric, ceramic tile, and wood to create pillows, lampshades, a baby quilt, a chair cover, ornaments, scarves, and other wearables and small home accessories. The introductory section covers making the stamps and hints on working with them; the 10 projects include full directions for creating the items that need sewing or gluing. This is a good introduction to the subject for those who want to try it out without spending much money. --Amy Handy

Brings alive the story of Trammell Crow--the visionary real estate developer whose brilliant career served to shape the future of the field. Follows Crow from his origins as a small-time real estate dealer to his transformation into a corporate symbol. Discusses the bold methods that Crow used to build the most influential real estate company in America. Includes an examination of how Crow's risky strategy of making all principals partners in his firm and offering equity interest to deal managers paid off with spectacular profits. A lively account of Crow's mission to break all the rules and become the greatest builder of our age.

                              Trammell Crow

Trammell Crow; Master Builder, The Story of Americas Largest Real Estate Empire by Robert Sobel

The book brings you through Trammell's life from his early years doing odd jobs such as, plucking chickens for 15 cents an hour in the early 1930's to his eventual start in real estate at the age of 33. By 1975 Crow was involved in 604 partnerships and 132 corporations.

The most memorable concept that Crow embraced was making almost every key employee a partner in his deals. I believe this kept him going though the tough times because partners as opposed to employees will go the extra mile in a squeeze. And Crow went through some tough times! He was loaded with dirt, (land) during a downturn and as you can imagine, dirt does not generate cash flow. So, as so many real estate giants do, he ran into cash flow problems during a downturn. The book walks you through his remarkable restructuring and how everyone involved with him pulled together and unified to get through the cash crunch.

It's a tremendously insightful concept that our company, Delking has embraced, by making key employees partners in deals. We hope this will increase longevity and keep them focused and exhilarated as it did for Trammell Crow.

I enjoyed the ability to peer into the life of a truly charged real estate operator and was able to walk away with some key concepts that will stay with me for life.

                                  Book Description

Shortly before his fourteenth birthday, John Christopher Columbus Hill left home with his father and older brother to join the ill-fated 1842 Texas expedition to Mier, Tamaulipas, Mexico, to end any questions over ownership of Texas. The story of John Hill's capture and subsequent adoption by President Antonio López de Santa Anna is one of the most fascinating and curious to come out of this extraordinary episode in Texas history.

After a series of escalating events, including Mexican Gen. Adrián Woll's sudden siege of San Antonio, the Texas Rangers sent out a call for volunteers. On Christmas Day, 1842, the Texans encountered the Mexican army at Mier, and the ensuing battle lasted until the next afternoon. During the fight, John Hill killed at least twelve Mexican soldiers; his brother was seriously wounded; and all of the surviving Texans were captured. John was sent back to Mexico City, while his father and brother stayed with the rest of the group.

The Texan prisoners subsequently escaped from prison and were recaptured. A furious Santa Anna demanded that they all be executed. The ensuing decision, to execute one-tenth of the group through a drawing of black beans from a jar, is one of the most legendary events in Texas history.

In Mexico City, young John Hill asked President Santa Anna to release his father and brother, who were still in prison. Santa Anna agreed, on the condition that he be allowed to adopt John and raise him in Mexico. John's father agreed, and he and John's brother returned to Texas. John stayed in Mexico City and was enrolled at the Colegio de Minería, or College of Mining, from which he graduated in 1850 with a doctorate in engineering and a degree in mining.

The story of John C. C. Hill is one of the most remarkable stories to emerge from Texas's struggle for independence. This volume, offered with an educator's guide for classroom use, will appeal to young and old readers alike.

                                  5 out of 5 stars A Brave Boy and a Good Soldier.......2007-01-04

This is good scholarship on a very interesting part of Texas/Mexican history. I would certainly recommend it.

3 out of 5 stars Far too compact........2006-06-15

While the story of John C.C. Hill is unique, interesting and a fascinating story, it is rather poorly presented here. Nothing in the product details would indicate that this is aimed at young adult readers, but that is clearly the level presented. The sentence structure is simplistic and overall, the book lacks the kind of attention to detail one would expect to find from such a fascinating story.

At the age of thirteen, John C.C. Hill accompanied his father and older brother to help defend the Nueces strip, the disputed land between the Nueces and Rio Grande Rivers in south Texas. What became known as the Mier expedition ended in a bitter defeat of the Texian forces, in which, all three members of the Hill family were taken prisoner. John would eventually be adopted by Santa Ana and would live out the majority of his life in Mexico.

This book gives a "rough draft" account of Hill's life, but left me very disappointed in the lack of detail. A story of this caliber should never be attempted to condense into a short 78-page booklet. The end result, while entertaining and a decent introduction to Hill's life, will leave the reader wanting much more.

5 out of 5 stars The engaging biography of one boy and his journey into manhood as a fighting for his state.......2006-04-05

A Brave Boy And A Good Soldier: John C. C. Hill And The Texas Expedition To Mier by author Mary Margaret McAllen Amberson is the engaging biography of one boy and his journey into manhood as a fighting for his state. As a thirteen year-old in 1842, John Christopher Columbus Hill began fighting for Texas in the collective expedition for Mier, Tamulipas, Mexico, and during the battle, managed to kill at least twelve Mexican Soldiers. This battle eventually lead to his capture and imprisonment by Santa Anna who agreed with Hill to release his father and brother from prison under the condition that John stayed behind to become Santa Anna's adopted son. Knowledgeably written and deftly told in a tactful and descriptive manner, A Brave Boy And A Good Soldier is the engaging tale of all of remarkable life, holding an appeal readers of all ages. A Brave Boy And A Good Soldier is a very highly recommended addition Texas and Mexico history and biography collections.

5 out of 5 stars Proof that fact is more amazing than fiction.......2006-03-30

This is the most amazing story in the long history between the U. S. and Mexico. John Hill, the young boy soldier from Texas, goes on to be adopted by no less than President Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, the dictator most Texans feared or loathed. This fantastic story really makes you want to read on forever.

4 out of 5 stars Great History Book.......2007-06-09

A Brief History of Western Civilization is a great history book. It not only gives the facts but delves into what was happening in the background of history. The layout is easy to follow and the book includes some great maps, charts, pictures, etc.

The only reason this book isn't getting 5 stars is because it's too big, heavy but flimsy which makes it difficult to take care of, especially lugging back and forth in a book bag.

This work is highly readable for both expert and layman. It gives an excellent summary of the the major events influencing the course of European history. Beginning with ancient Greece and Rome and finishing with modern politics after the fall of the Berlin wall, the book gives an overview which is neither to brief nor too specific. If you've read this book you really can claim to know a lot about history. Moreover, all the events numbers etc. are presented in such a way that history almost comes to life.

This book tries to do too many things, and does none of them well.
It is not suitable for identification, since it only includes one very small picture of each species. The Purple Finch is only barely recognizable and certainly of no help in separating male Purple and House Finches. In fact, none of these photographs would be very useful for identification purposes except for the most obvious species.
There is also a list of birding sites - 189 in all. But the descriptions and directions are very brief. Each individual species has one or more of these sites listed in a "where to find" section. This maybe a good introduction into where to look for the species, but you would be much better off with an actual bird finding guide for the individual states.

Beginners would likely be frusterated with the photos. They are too small, poor, and few in number to be much good. And there is nothing here at all to recommend this to more advanced birders. You probably already have most of the info here in other books and resources.
