captivating and informative.......2004-02-04
This is the perfect book for those who like some substance to their form. The writing is wonderful - I felt like I took a trip through time and through Thailand. The photos are beautiful as well because they aren't just the standard head-on shots, but interesting details and angles.
By far the best.......2004-02-03
Having bought a large number of architectural books on Thailand, I can validate that this is the best so far. It is a well written book and definitely worth purchasing. I definitely recommend it for whoever has a passion for the decorative arts and for plain class Thai architecture. Definitely a gem.
Enhanced appreciation for Thailand.......2003-12-20
I wish I had owned this book before my month long visit to Thailand three years ago. I received this book as a Christmas gift last year and really appreciated the insight it provides concerning the history, culture, and style of Thailand. Not only is it a gorgeous book with wonderful pictures but it also helped me to better understand Thai culture and style.
It really helped me to better appreciate my experiences in Thailand.

Fantastic book!.......2007-07-14
Wow! This book is beautiful AND it really helps you to draw Marvel or any other character! A great guide for those starting in the world of drawing, and a good help for those who are farther along the path. The presentation is really breathtaking, the pages are big, colorful and detailed, and it includes transparent pages so you can see the rough work over the finished piece. By far the best "How to Draw Marvel Characters" book I've ever laid my hands on!
Good for beggining comic book artist .......2007-02-25
If I had to compare this book to another one I'd say it's like a new version of "How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way". This is very good introduction of comic book artist's tools and techniques. The book really encourages to start drawing. There are good examples of human figure drawing, comic characters types, basic forms, coloring, inking and more. The explanations are clear and short - It's all about drawing. Tracing papers with initial sketches included inside show how the character is built from basics which is very helpful. Although the book covers all basics the Author advises a reader to learn basic human anatomy from additional sources which is a good idea.
I like this book very much.
I love it!.......2006-12-13
I bought it because I am absolutely terrible at drawing men, and just wanted a book of references, but I didn't expect as complete a guide as I got! It's fantastic for anyone who wants to learn to draw, or even for anyone who loves to draw and has been doing it for a while. The overlays, especially the huge two-page spread overlay, is so incredibly useful.
I fully recommend it! If you're looking for a comic drawing book, get this one!
One of the BEST books about the subject!!.......2006-09-15
This book RIVALS Stan Lee's "How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way"!!!
The sections/ chapters are logically placed.
Dan Jurgens is a TRUE veteran; his drawing is SOLID!!
a. The overlays are EXTREMLEY helpful
b. The illustrations are well drawn.
c. The section on inking/coloring is top notch.
This book is a MUST for beginners to advanced alike.
Old pros will find this book a useful reference especailly
as it deals with Writing, Pencilling, Inking, Coloring
to FINAL production.
The overlays alone are WORTH the price of the book!!!
A birthday present .......2006-07-27

Useful.......2007-10-22
In Florida, Chapter 83 Florida Statutes prohibits any lease term that varries from the statutory lease requirements, so you are basically limited to the size of your deposit and the amount of the late fee. Nevertheless, this book will serve to bring up issues you may not have considered in landlording. A good basic summary. See his book Landlords Rights & Duties for a better analysis.

Fundamentals 3 - 6 - my viewpoint.......2002-03-30
I browsed through this book and thought, if some of my student's parents had this, it would have helped them prepare their children for school. I liked the way it encouraged the arts (art and music) as well as parents or guardians reading to their children EVERYDAY. This is extremely important to enhance reading skills as well as language development. I will be purchasing this book to enrich the students in my classroom.

The Northrop P-61 was the first airplane designed form the start to be a night fighter. With its advanced radar and electronics, high speed, maneuverability and heavy armament, it was as deadly as its namesake: the poisonous Black Widow spider. Northrop P-61 Black Widow uncovers the complete history of this once-secret warplane. The result of over 26 years of original research, this book brings you astonishing detail on all the P-61 variants, from the first XP-61 prototype through the final long range escort and photo-recon versions. Dozens of photos and original Northrop and Army Air Force blueprint drawings show every technical detail of this ahead of-its-time aricraft, its engines, aradar and electronics. This is the complete Black Widow combat diary - all the aces and all the victories, told through first person combat stories. More than 150 black and white and color photos show the Black Widow in action in the European, China-Burma-India and Pacific Theaters - the planes the pilots, the crewmen, the nose art and the markings. Also included are unit histories for each night fighter squadron that flew the Black Widow., over 150 color photographs, 8" x 10"

Northrop P-6 Black Widow: The Complete History and Combat R.......2004-02-03
As a Black Widow addict, I am impressed with this nicely done book. The photos are some of the best I've seen and the combat recollections were especially inspiring. As an airplane modeller and aviation artist, I found this book to be very helpful but it left me with wanting much more. More shots of the rear radar operator's compartment, how the unique ailerons worked, side views of the crew compartments, engine exhaust pipes, shots of the 20 mm cannons, the pilot's night binoculars, and line drawings of each variant. While not "Complete", like the title says, it is an impressive book printed on heavy glossy paper making it one of my favorites
Incredible quality, What aviation books should be........2002-03-03
Very high quality. Glossy paper. Jet black print. Pictures look like a million bucks. If you are a fan of the Black Widow you will not be disappointed. Also has some great color photos of the postwar military and civilian Black Widows. Much better value than the P-61 warbird tech series book that is printed with grey ink and bargin basement paper. I agree with the thorough review below this review
The most comprehensive book currently available on the P-61........1999-06-13
This is a book filled with good photographs. The cover photo itself is unusual and striking. The authors begin with some background history of radar (prior to 1940), it being integral to this aircraft. They then move on to aircraft development, crew training, deployment, and finally, post war usage. Along the way they have unit histories, and some very interesting individual recollections (P-61 vs. P-47 is a highlight). Additionally the inclusion of information on field modifications is good (one squadron moved the radar operator and his equipment to the gunner's position). Somewhat disappointingly the authors don't provide three view drawings of the major variants so they can be visually compared. It would also have been useful to know what the original performance specifications issued by the Army Air Corps were so the reader would know how close Northrop came to "hitting the mark". Also more on: aircraft layout (eg. fuel tank locations), construction (eg. were unusual materials used?), and flight test anecdotes, recollections, and data would also be welcome to explain the reasons for variant evolution, color scheme change, etc. The book ends with six appendices including an extensive bibliography. All in all, while it is not as definitive as the title might imply or as I would have wished, this is the most comprehensive book currently available on the P-61. Anyone interested in the "Black Widow" should own this book.
Book Description
The heavily armed P-61 Black Widow was the U.S. Army Air Force's first dedicated night fighter. Equipped with radar, four .50 caliber machine guns and four 20mm. cannons, the Widow was a fearsome adversary. It flew as both an intruder and interceptor in Europe and the Pacific. Originally printed by Northrop in 1945, the YP-61 Pilot's Flight Operating Manual taught pilots everything they needed to know before entering the cockpit. Originally classified "Restricted", the manual was declassified long ago and is here reprinted in book form. This affordable facsimile has been reformatted, and color images appear as black and white. Care has been taken however to preserve the integrity of the text.

Pilot's Manual for a Rare Warbird.......2006-06-25
The P-61 Black Widow is one of the really rare warbirds from World War II. It has a certain mystique because not too many were built and because they were designed to fly at night.
The following information is what I've been able to collect over the years, and is not guaranteed to be accurate:
Only 705 were built. Of these only four are known to exist, one each at the Smithsonian (not on diaplay), Wright Pat Air Base Museum, one at Beijing Institute of Aeronautical Engineering in Beijing, China (reportedly for sale for $2 Million - They cost $170,000 new), and one at the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum (maam.org) which is being restored, hopefully to flying status.
The gun turret on the top of the P-61 was the same as on the B-29. The B-29's had priority so a lot of P-61's were built without the top turret. There are also stories that when you turned the top turret to either side that the plane became unstable.
Anyway, this book is a reprint of the original pilot's manual. A study of this book, and the pilot was supposed to be able to fly the thing.
Northrop P-61 Black Widow Pilot's Flight Manual .......2006-05-05
The heavily armed P-61 Black Widow was the U.S. Army Air Force's first dedicated night fighter. Equipped with radar, four .50 caliber machine guns and four 20mm. cannons, the Widow was a fearsome adversary. It flew as both an intruder and interceptor in Europe and the Pacific.
Service deliveries of the aircraft started in May, 1944, with the 348th Night Fighter Squadron (NFS) of the 481st Night Fighter Group (NFG). The first P-61 kill was recorded on June 30, 1944 (some sources say July 6), when a Widow of the 6th NFS downed a 'Betty" bomber over the Pacific.
706 P-61's were built in total.
Originally printed by Northrop in 1945, the P-61 Pilot's Flight Operating Manual taught pilots everything they needed to know before entering the cockpit. Originally classified "Restricted", the manual was declassified long ago and is here reprinted in book form. This affordable facsimile has been reformatted, but care has been taken however to preserve the integrity of the text. It's a fascinating read and one of the more unique ways to appreciate this unique warbird.
Book Description
With more than 30 volumes now available, this series is one of the best sources of information for modellers and aviation enthusiasts. Each volume is jam packed full of excerpts, drawings, exploded views, cutaways, assembly line, and repair depot photographs taken from original tech manuals.
Customer Reviews:
Mixed Bag.......2004-01-29
While the photos in this book are unique, the text suffers from important details, and many pages appear to be so much filler - diagrams of linkages/crating instructions/etc.
This plane deserves better treatment.
Disappointing.......1999-09-01
Although the book provides an interesting general overview, it passes over some important details almost entirely. For example, Chapter 5, Armament and Radar, says almost nothing about the P-61's radar capabilities, and instead dwells almost exclusively on it's 20 mm cannons.
A book about such an important night fighter should have much more to say about it's radar systems. After all, this is what made the P-61 so important to begin with.
Can anybody direct me to a good source of information on the P-61's radar systems and capabilities?
An overview of the P-61 with an empasis on its construction........1999-06-06
Here is a book that suceeds in accomplishing the feat of giving an overview of a fascinating aircraft with a slant toward the technical aspects. The book opens with a brief explanation of the need for the P-61. Then moves to testing and evaluations--includilng suggested modifications. Next comes the longest section, one on the aircraft's construction (a word of caution--if you're only casually interested in the Black Widow you may find this chapter somewhat tedious). Mr. Thompson concentrates primarily on the airframe with lesser detail on control systems and engines. Following are chapters on flight training (including pre-flight checks), radar/armmament, lesser produced variants, and service after the war. Also included are many informative cutaway diagrams, cockpit photos, and a section of color photos. If you are looking for a good overview of the P-61 and don't mind an emphasis on technical over operational details this book is an excellent choice.
Excellent reference for each variant, but little else.......1999-04-28
This was my first Warbird Tech series purchase and I was pleasantly surprised. As a modeler's reference, this is an outstanding source of details. The developement of all the various sub-types (some "extremely" rare) are covered including many photos and pilot's manual drawings. There are a very few wartime stories and fewer still pictures of the P-61 in combat theaters (hey, there "aren't" many pictures of night fighters in action). Most of the pictures seem to come from Northrop files, but they are usually large and clear - excellent for figuring out where to place that "control box" on the left of the cockpit. ;) If you are looking for markings of operational (as opposed to prototype) aircraft, get Thompson's "P-61 Black Widow Units of World War Two" (Osprey Combat Aircraft Series). Between the two of these books, you should be able to find those nagging details some modelers crave. Recommended.

Book Description
BLUEBIRDS IN YOUR BACKYARD!
From coast to coast, in every state and province across North America, homeowners can attract bluebirds to their backyards and nearby open areas to nest. In this book, a select group of "bluebird monitors" reveal how it's done: how you can attract bluebirds and, once they begin nesting in your backyard, how you can help ensure that nestlings develop and fledge successfully.
Rural yards, suburban yards, even some small city yards can host bluebirds. And yards that don't suit bluebirds may attract chickadees, tree swallows, or one of the other bird species that nest in boxes. This book includes information on all 10 of the cavity-nesting birds most often reported to The Birdhouse Network of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
The experts who offer advice in this book are affiliated with the North American Bluebird Society or are participants in The Birdhouse Network of Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Some of the contributors monitor hundreds of boxes and have fledged thousands of bluebirds; others monitor only a few backyard boxes but have learned many of the secrets of bluebird behavior by observing them closely and continuously.
Customer Reviews:
The Single Best Book on Bluebirds.......2006-08-16
We have so many bird books my wife routinely says "don't get me another bird book," but this one made the grade. It is absolutely riveting and held me spell-bound in the bookstore.
We were devastated when a late frost wiped out the bluebird population for miles around. It took three years for them to recover.
For all of our experience with blue birds, our favorite, this book is world-class in three ways:
1) The photographs cover the hard to see inside the next information in a brilliant manner. This is one of the finest collection of photographs in support of text I have ever seen.
2) The monitoring aspect was new to us, and very interesting to understand.
3) The hardware section is really well put together and illustrated, and taught me that there are humane ways to deal with sparrows and others. Our solution works as well: we provide five boxes around the property, and this seems to have worked well in ensuring that our bluebirds get first choice and then everyone else has options.
Good index. I have been through the book several times now, and each time I find something new.
Perfect for beginner and a great reference!.......2005-12-27
I'm completely new to bluebirding, but got hooked when I saw 3 bluebirds at my heated birdbath. I started researching on-line, but there was too much information--I couldn't keep track of nestbox requirements versus great suet recipes. I had so many bookmarks, and read so much information, that I didn't quite know where to start! I ordered this book last week and have read it cover to cover already, taken notes, purchased 2 NABS (North American Bluebird Society) approved bluebird houses, and feel confident--after having read this book--that the bluebirds and I will have a good start.
The book covers the whole process of nestbox placement, maintenance, responsibilities of setting up one or more nestboxes, bluebird behavior, other birds' behavior (who might use your boxes), predator issues and control, feeding and diet, mealworms, nestbox styles, and the whole lifecycle process from birds selecting a box to babies flying into the big new world.
I especially like the format of this book. Instead of being textbook style (there are enough excellent reference sections), it features short biographies of many folks all around the U.S. who got into bluebirding for one reason or another, admit to mistakes they made (so we don't make them too), offer their tips and tricks (which can be regional or personal or just plain handy), and each bring different perspectives. I really took a lot away from this book, just from reading everyone's personal experiences, learned by their example of how they do what they do, and was completely touched by their dedication to helping bluebirds continue to survive.
If you have ever considered putting up a bluebird nestbox and are not sure where to start, try starting with this book. The Bluebird Monitor's Guide has plenty of reference information and solid personal experience to guide you--without being overwhelming. Putting up a bluebird nestbox is a commitment I feel much more comfortable making now after having read this book, and hopefully you will too!
This is the #1 Bluebird Book for Your Library!.......2002-10-07
The Bluebird Monitor's Guide to Bluebirds and Other Small Cavity-Nesters by Cynthia Berger, Keith Kridler and Jack Griggs. Notice who sponsored this book, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and The North American Bluebird Society, and was printed in 2001. The Bluebird Monitor's Guide is the most detailed and complete, up to date Bluebird information I found for sale today on Bluebirds.
I have to say that I was about as a Novice as it gets in knowing about Bluebirds, but am quickly becoming an expert to be. I live in South Florida, and never had seen a Bluebird until May of 2002. I decided my area needed more of this beautiful bird, and my search for information on Bluebirds, and Bluebird boxes, and Bluebird Trails lead right to The Bluebird Monitor's Guide.
If you are searching for Bluebird information, you will find that there are very few books written about Bluebirds. After ordering and receiving the Bluebird Monitor's Guide, I found I was reading articles which are short, informative, fun, and on everything I could think of pertaining to Bluebirds and their habitat, housing, and food, and the people who care about them.
The book is approximately 8" x 10" of high gloss paper, 128 pages, and filled with beautiful photos. The guide is broken down into five sections which tell you about Bluebirds, and how to attract them; how to monitor Bluebirds; Bluebird Trails, and the equipment used with Bluebirds. The Bluebird Monitor's Guide information all comes by ordinary people, like you and me, whom have been working with Bluebirds for years. And The Monitor,s Guide is written to be understood by young and old, and novice or expert.
The Bluebird Monitor's Guide is written for the person who has only one box or a Bluebird Trail of hundreds of boxes. Since May of 2002 I now actually have twenty Bluebird Trails of 122 houses, with plans of many more for South Florida. I am the overall Trail Monitor of Twenty Monitors. I am helping dozens of people to learn about the Bluebird, from the wealth of information found in The Bluebird Monitor's Guide.
Whether you can only purchase one Bluebird book, or all the Bluebird books which have ever been written, The Bluebird Monitor's Guide to Bluebirds and Other Small Cavity-Nesters should be the #1 Bluebird book in your library.
A must have!.......2002-08-11
This is a definite bible on bluebird nestbox monitoring - all sorts of really great and detailed info on bluebirds, problem solving tips for dealing with predators, great pictures. I recommend this one to everyone I know who's interested in bluebirds and monitoring nest boxes.
The definitive book for Bluebird nest box monitors!.......2002-07-28
The Bluebirding world has waited a long time for this book. If you just have one Bluebird nest box in the yard, or hundreds covering miles of territory, this book is a must have. Profusely illustrated with color photos.
The authors of this book did not create a "coffee table" book; they created a work that will guide you through your day to day problems with predators, such as snakes, raccoons, house sparrows, and starlings.
I am a Bluebirder with years of experience, and I learned a lot and keep learning from the book!
