Great for students!.......2007-09-07
I am a senior interior design student and this book was recommended by one of my instructors. It gives good, very basic step-by-step instructions for rendering common building materials with different mediums (watercolor, color pencil, and markers). One issue that I did find was that some of the illustrations don't exactly follow the written instructions, but because of the format, that's a pretty small issue. This is a book that I'd recommend for beginning design students, but more advanced students may find this book a little too basic.
Color Rendering Tips.......2001-12-14
I was introduced to Wei Dong's book in an Interior Design class on Presentation Techniques. It is an excellent book for all but the most experienced Interior Renderer. It focuses on the use of color markers and comes complete with practice exercises that help build your skill and confidence. I highly recommend it!
dissapointment.......2001-11-16
i recieved this book this book in the mail and had been eagerly awaiting its arrival. i don't know how else to express it other than i was very dissapointed. i have see Michael Doyle's fist edition of his Color Drawing and my original intent was to buy the second edition of that, but when i saw this book with its raving editorial review i decided to try this one instead. i mean who could turn down a book with a review like "the most complete guide and study of color rendering of interiors ever compiled" and "exhaustive in its coverage" i thought that this book was going to be wonderful. i think that i might have found it useful if i had never even picked up colored pencils and markers before. There was very little rendering of total interiors just objects or things that might go in an interior. If you are really looking for a complete source then i really wouldn't recomend this book, only a just starting out beginner might find it useful.
Excellent Referance Book.......2001-03-10
An excellent reference book for all designers. It gives great advise and tips for all forms of rendering both interiors and exteriors. The step by step instructions were not as informative as they could have been, but overall an excellent book for any designer.

A Very Realistic Approach from a Former Employee.......1999-03-06
This book does an excellent job of demonstrating the effects of a factory closing in a small southern town. As a former resident of the town (childhood home) and a former worker in the machine room and rubbing room of White's Furniture Factory, I was amazed at the depth of analysis and truthfulness in this book. This book demonstrated how the closing of a factory not only affects the workers, but prior workers, and the entire population of the town. I was surprised to see the pictures that were included that told a story all to themselves. This book is highly recommended for college professors wishing to pursue the effects of a factory closing and other downsizing efforts on a small town's population. A great story line supplemented by outstanding pictures as the authors take the reader through the last years of a 100+ year factory that the entire town centered their lives around. Highly recommended for those interested in the effects of a closing on the local population.
Makes large economic forces take a human face.......1998-10-01
a reasonably balanced view of a factory closing that doesn't make the owner out to be a devil (although some former workers clearly feel that way). Shows the human side of what happens when decisions are made based on the aseptic "bottom line". If anything, the book is not hard enough on the original family, the 1st generation that admirably built the company and the second generation that let it deteriorate (the book details how the 2 family members at the top didn't even talk to one another and used separate entrances to the building! Is it any wonder the financials deteriorated and they had to sell?)
The only thing missing is an interview with the capitalist that closed the plant. If they tried and he refused the book ought to say so, otherwise it seems that at least a few pages could have been devoted to his side of the story.
All in all, though, a great book to read, as a counterbalance for all of us that invest thru our 401Ks and retirement accounts expecting great returns and divorced from how those returns are obtained (and at what cost to some people).
Extremely touching photos on a poignant subject........1998-09-15
This book, and a traveling exhibit due at Yale this fall and The Smithsonian in early next year, captures the feelings and human aspect of what happens when a family owned furniture factory is closed due to a hostile takeover. The pictures and accompaning text document from an historical and extremely personal perspective the lives of workers in a small town in North Carolina, dependant on each other and the factory, and the devastation that occurs when big city, outside forces make an impersonal decision regarding people 1000 miles away.

A great collaborative effort!.......2004-05-11
This is a wonderful collaboration of some of the most respected and experienced people working in the field of social entrepreneurship. It covers a wide range of issues and does so in more detail than I have seen in other publications on the field. In particular, I was pleased to see a chapter on legal/tax issues and one on pricing - two topics that many organizations have a lot of questions about, and are often not emphasized in publications. This is definitely a good addition to your collection if you run a non-profit engaged in earned income activities, or if you interact with such organizations.

Birds Beware Decoys Which Move and Yell!.......2005-10-15
Duck season is upon us and now the wildlife agencies allow Canadian geese to be killed; they are no longer considered an endangered species. Bald Eagles are, and you will be punished with a fine and perhaps time in jail if you even accidentally kill our National Bird.
There is some controversy about the 'spinning wing' duck decoys, and Arkansas is the first state to bann them completely. Minnesota will regulate their use. What is it with government agencies to play God with birds and waterfowl? In Knoxville, the GSA uses a horrible-sounding noise pollution device to try to scare the pigeons away from one particular building. Last year one of the Malls used it. To the uniniated, it sounds like a hurt bird in distress. But I've been told that it simulates the falcon's sound when it plunges toward its prey. We even have live falcons circling the town to eat and kill the birds.
The GSA has put up artificial owls in areas such as the downtown park (which is not on federal land!) with a moving head and yellow blinking eyes, to scare the birds. As far as I can tell, it makes no noise but the head moving around like a demonized girl in Exorcism and the eyes looking at you are to scare those poor defenseless birds back to their natural habitat. Knoxville is one place where the birds are unloved. They even cut trees down (we need the shade) so as not to have places for them to roost. At the federal bldg. with the noise maker, they caused a ruckus by cutting down trees all around the place, and so replaced them with our 'chosen native' dogwood trees.
Duck spinning wing decoys are not a danger, thus are not considered harmful. Maybe not, but they are an ugly apparatus and a bothersome agent Orange for the birds. I asked the pest control man with his spray outside the post office, "Are you poisoning the birds now?" I wouldn't put it past them.

This is the best Duck hunting decoy book I have ever seen!
Decoys 2000.......2001-08-18
This book comes to us from Ducks Unlimited. If you like DU, you'll like this read. Spreads and how to from around the lower 48 and recomendations on decoys that move and (almost) fly. Most of the best waterfowl how to was done long ago on a misty morning. This book doesn't compare with that, but it's a good update without a lot of technical "why fors". A quick read before the fall flights.
