This book offers a complete and informativeview on design drawing. It is perfect for the aspiring *or veteran* architect and/or interior designer. Thorough explanations of perspective and light and tone have helped me in painting and printmaking as well. This text covers multiple point perspectives, interior perspectives, tonal interest and light, and drawing textures, figures, and composition. Very helpful and informative. A good buy!

Outstanding book for beginner artists' and designers.......2001-02-01
I am a landscape desinger and was introduced to this book through a landscape architect that I work with. I have been a designer for about 4 years and have never learned how to draw sections or elevations. After reading and completing the exercises in this book I am well on my way to showing section view illustrations for my landscape designs. This isn't a long book, but the exercises are definately worthwhile.

After seeing many five stars comments on
this book, I bought it as a tutorial.
After reading this book and using the
software for several weeks, I had not learned
much. I decided to give up this book.
My friend used this book for learning
AutoCad, she also had to give up.
Later I decided to buy another AutoCad book, called
"AutoCad 2000 - One step at a time", to
learn AutoCad.

Mastering AutoCAD 2000 Premium Edition is the best AutoCAD book I have come across in my career. It contains enough and practical oriented tutorials with other helpful tips and time saving techniques that can really make you an AutoCAD guru. The accompany CD is superb. Probably one of the best computer manuals i have read, G. Omura has done a great job. The chapters are very well designed, taking you step by step without rush through the basics of autocad and the platform, then famialarizing you with some basic commands and components supported bt exercises, lateron while you buildup a project you learn more advanced commands and tricks, for me as a beginner i found grasping the material written which was alot very easy. the exercises are very useful, the CD is a great deal containing the mastering autocad 2000 instant reference guide and lots more, the figures are very well showen.
The book could use some "speed" though, some times you feel a bit "still" there is sometimes too much description for things which could seem too much basic. and the chapter on the 3D modeling and design could use some more work, i am planning to buy a specialized book for that purpose.
but all in all i think if i was to choose i would buy this book again.

Too much, too soon.......2000-11-26
I'm sure this is a good book but it was over my head. I am a beginner and I needed a real beginning book. I will keep this book for later when I am more experienced. But I did take the advice of the previous reviewer and purchased "Exercise Workbook for Beginning AutoCAD 2000" by Cheryl Shrock. Now I can handle this one. Not only was it easy to follow, but I emailed the author with questions and she actually emailed me back with answers. Amazing. When I finish the beginning workbook I will probably purchase the "Advanced" workbook also. Then I will return to George Omura's book.

I had my teacher take a gander and he said that it was a good book but thought that it could elaborate a little more. I go to the Outer Banks as often as possible, but never often enough. This book takes me there right from my living room. The photography as well as the information contained in the book is outstanding. I found it to be relaxing as well as educational. Because the book has something for everyone, I highly recommend it for all ages.

I live in Pennsylvania but spend one month of every summer in Hatteras, and this book brought me right back there! The photographs are amazing, particularly the full-page color pictures. The book is very well-researched--I didn't know any of the information about Blackbeard until I read the chapter on his exploits on Ocracoke. This book makes me want to go to the Outer Banks right now! I highly recommend it.

How people perceive wetlands has always played a crucial role in determining how people act toward them. In this readable and objective account, Hugh Prince examines literary evidence as well as government and scientific documents to uncover the history of changing attitudes toward wetlands in the American Midwest.
As attitudes changed, so did scientific research agendas, government policies, and farmers' strategies for managing their land. Originally viewed as bountiful sources of wildlife by indigenous peoples, wet areas called "wet prairies," "swamps," or "bogs" in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries were considered productive only when drained for agricultural use. Beginning in the 1950s, many came to see these renamed "wetlands" as valuable for wildlife and soil conservation.
Prince's book will appeal to a wide readership, ranging from geographers and environmental historians to the many government and private agencies and individuals concerned with wetland research, management, and preservation.

As an ex Rhodesian soldier I lived through the period covered by the book and had the great fortune to know some of the people involved in the regiment. The book is a gritty, factual account of the unit, the people and the politics of the day. As a salute to a great regiment and country, it stands tall in representing what the Rhodesian people stood for and their fight to retain their country.

In the Period 1972 to 1980 the Independent Rhodesia (Now Zimbabwe) faced its final battle against the communist supported terrorist insurgents. The western powers faced losing its influence in Africa and to combat the spread of communism, pandered to the terrorist leaders by giving financial aide. Rhodesia's fate was sealed. Living in political isolation, even free and fair elections in 1978 would not help the Rhodesian people.
Militarily though, Rhodesia showed a resilience that is a lesson for military strategists, historians and politicians alike. It certainly influenced the terrorists. Realising that a military solution would not be in their favour, they were forced to the negotiating table at Lancaster House.
To understand the military role - one needs to read in context how the Selous Scouts worked in conjunction with other military units, such as the Rhodesian Light Infantry, The Rhodesian SAS, The Rhodesian African Rifles, The British South African Police, and all the other units who played their role.
This book stands out in three areas. It gives the facts behind the units methods, It was the only unit in Rhodesia that recruited its members from the enemy ranks and was the only unit that would actually infiltrate the enemy ranks and then lead them into a killing ground where invariably the Rhodesian Light Infantry engaged them.
The sad part is that this unit was disbanded without a passing out parade, without formality of any kind and melted into history in one night - to safeguard its members who would no doubt have been subjected to brutal reprisals.
My first exposure to the Selous Scouts was when I was ordered to take a vehicle into the bush and pick up a stick (call-sign or patrol) in total darkness. A flare signalled their presence and I was commanded not to shoot. Out of the darkness came eleven terrorists. My heart skipped a beat and my rifle came up. The officer again commanded me to hold my fire. As the terrorists climbed into the vehicle I could see their camouflage coming off and realised they were friendly troops masquerading as the enemy. They hid themselves under a canvas tarpaulin while I drove them back to camp - and the showers. I will never forget that night.
The reading is engaging and the book is hard to put down. As an ex RLI Soldier who worked with them from time to time I must say that reading about their operations still has me in awe of their prowess. To the members of the Selous Scouts, I raise my glass in salute to you.

Patibulos y piratas lo pueblan y la palabra INFAMIA aturde en el titulo, pero bajo los tumultos no hay nada. No es otra cosa que apariencia, que una superficie de imagenes; por eso mismo puede acaso agradar. En su palpitante reportaje, Paul Badde narra la fantástica historia de esta aparición, que ha cambiado la historia del mundo y que, sin embargo, en Europa continua en gran parte desconocida. Sin este enigmático evento no se puede explicar por qué los habitants de Centro y Sudamérica, en un lapso mÃnimo, se incorporaron al cristianismo. Fue MarÃa de Guadalupe quien integró todo un continente a la cultura occidental.

In his exciting report, Paul Badde narrates the fantastic history of this apparition, which has changed the history of the world and which, nevertheless, remains unknown in much of Europe. Without this enigmatic event it is impossible to explain how the inhabitants of Central and South America, in a short period of time, were incorporated into Christianity. It was Mary of Guadalupe who integrated a whole continent into a culture from the Occident.

Taking picture of the most rare and shy birds in North America is not an easy tasking, not even for an avid birder and expert in the field. Well, William Burt is an expert in the field, and it took him over 10 years of hard work to research, track down, and photograph America's most elusive birds. Burt has not only delivered a full package of top quality photographs, but he has written an excellent story of his episodes of wandering through endless praries and dark swamps to find these birds. For anyone who loves birds, or loves an adventure, this book is a must.
