5 out of 5 stars A Must Have .......2007-09-18

Entourage is an excellent resource for students and professionals in any design field. The tracing files are organized for quick and easy use. Some of the images are a little dated, but overall it is a must have!

3 out of 5 stars Great source, but getting dated.......2007-06-30

As others have stated here, this book is a great resource for entourage, but most of the imagery is from the 1970s and early 1980s.

2 out of 5 stars Badly in need of a major update.......2007-02-10

This book has pretty much been the standard in its genre since the 1970s, but that doesn't mean designers want to use people, vehicles, and other objects that still belong in that decade. The vast majority of images in this book are utterly useless because they are so terribly out of date.

5 out of 5 stars Entourage.......2007-01-05

I am a 1st year landscape design student and this book has been a great help in my studies.I found this book on amazon for 30 dollars less on amazon than I would of had to pay at the bookstore.

5 out of 5 stars Great Tracing Book!.......2005-04-27

I am an interior design student who LOVES this book. I had been struggling with drawing people in my renderings and this book really saved my drawings. You can be the best interior artist and have perfected drawing rooms, but if you stick an akward looking person in the center of your room....you have just completely ruined it. This book helps artists, interior designers, architects, students, teachers....everyone.

It has pages and pages filled with people of ALL sizes and shapes. It also has people sitting, laying down, kneeling, etc. There are some pictures of cars, boats, planes, & trees/plants.
Conviently, all of the book's pages can be torn out with perforated edges. You can choose which page you want and slip it right underneath your drawing to trace.

I looked and lookd for a tracing guide and this book is the best out there. If you need help with any kind of human rendering, this book will do the trick.

      Book Description

Within the vast country of Argentina, there is an area unknown even to most Argentines, that of the highlands within Santiago del Estero. The Quichua-Santiagueno people have for centuries inhabited this landscape of sun-scorched earth. And for centuries they have been creating a wealth of objects--furnishings, rugs tools, and decorative arts. This book attempts to rescue these treasures from obscurity and to offer as inspiration their sophistication, beauty and ingenuity.

5 out of 5 stars Thoughtful, thoughtprovoking and helpful are part of how I feel about this book.........2007-02-04

My therapist recommended this as an aid to assist in dealing with the effects of the trauma I had undergone as a child. My first impression was that the writing was simplistic, but as I read on I felt that this book was far better than I'd thought. Strategies are important in the course of healing, and in living a fuller life. This book gives clear suggestions, and caring is evidenced by the author's writing.

5 out of 5 stars More helpful than the therapists I've been seeing.......2006-12-06

The title is an eyecatcher, but the book is so much more than just techniques for getting survivors "through the day." I have found more validation, encouragement, answers and empowering solutions in this book than in most self help books combined. And I've read A LOT of self help books!

The book's target readers are dissociators and multiples (MPD / DID). The focus is on dealing with emotions and events from childhood that have been dissociated, or set aside from consciousness. Often times, life for a dissociator goes just fine, for decades, but then you hit a brick wall, and all of your life "tricks" stop working. Bad stuff starts to come up from the past, in the forms of triggers, flashbacks, memories, etc. Your life can be turned upside down, especially if you realize that you employed personalities in order to get you through life. But Napier encourages the survivor of childhood abuse to take it at our own pace. Life isn't all good, or all bad, and while you're finally handling all of your dark, depressing issues, you can still lead a decent, middle-ground life, which accepts good times when they come.

There are exercies, which you can do or not; the author encourages readers to choose for themselves, especially since it can be frightening for dissociators to use meditative techniques to further explore feelings.

There are end-of-chapter/paragraph discussions for multiples ("Special Issues for Multiples"), but in my opinion, this is a book which all dissociators should read cover to cover. If something does not apply to you at all, or you want to skip the exercises, then do so, HOWEVER...the book is heavy with gems, and if you skip too much of it, you risk the chance of missing out on some lightbulb moments. I had MANY while reading the book.

Just so you can get a better idea of what's in here, the following topics are discussed, some at length, some in brief : shadow side, mind-body, projection, barriers, despair, shame, guilt, suicidal thoughts and feelings, splitting, and creating bridges for feelings to come through.

I found this book at a library, and knew it would be very useful for me, so I bought a used copy online. I cannot recommend it enough. No book has ever before supported me in such a way! I feel stronger for having read it, and more prepared to handle what comes my way.

A personal aside: Sometimes healing comes backwards. You may be currently dealing with traumas that may not have happened in childhood, such as rape or domestic abuse as an adult. This book can still help you IF YOU DISSOCIATED.

5 out of 5 stars The best thing I read lately.......2006-03-16

Very helpful, both for the parents and for the children in those hurting situations.

                  5 out of 5 stars Invaluable!!.......2003-12-16

This book has so many ways of helping you understand what is going on in your life, how to get through the tough times, to discover what is the true cause of adverse reactions and how to heal.

Some of this information can come across as so completely foreign that it may take time for you to believe it. I remember reading some of the excercises and thinking "How hokey can you get!" After becoming desperate enough, I thought "Well nothing else has helped, why not give it a try." and it WORKED!!

5 out of 5 stars Real Help When Day-to-Day Living is a Struggle.......2003-01-23

Sometimes daily life feels like climbing a hill through molasses. Even those who don't have MPD may have inner children (teenagers, pseudo-adults) who seem to be at war with each other, or extreme emotional reactions left over from childhood. This book has a wealth of strategies for soothing those inner selves in the context of the demands of daily living. If that was all, that would be enough for me to recommend this book, because I don't know of another book on the market that deals with practical strategies for daily life in terms of these inner selves (with suggestions for those who do have MPD). But I also appreciate the empathetic tone of the book. Sometimes that kind of tone, however well-meant, can come off as sappy or condescending, but I felt that here it was warm and sincere. I'd also like to recommend two other books: "How to Love Yourself When You Don't Know How" and "Internal Family Systems Therapy." Both are wonderful books about these inner selves and how they function in us. And while they don't deal with the day-to-day struggles and strategies that this book does, they are also resources for exploring the subpersonality issues that affect so many of us.

"Everything you know about Pearl Harbor is wrong." This definitive book proves the United States read the main Japanese fleet code JN-25 prior to Pearl Harbor and that Washington knew Pearl Harbor was to be attacked. It reveals for the first time several of the deepest secrets of World War II.

5 out of 5 stars This book can shake the foundations of what you believe to be true!.......2007-03-05

The author has done an excellent job of explaining himself. There is so much information presented in this book that people who get bogged down in minutae may never finish the book!

I own many of the books cited by the author. His quotes are correct. His conclusions are good too! Some reviewers have become all tangled up in the Japanese Naval Codes and when were they broken. The offical documents do not mean that much to me. The reason these offical documents fail to interest me very much is because I have another book that I do not believe the author has!

Radio Magazine, May 1941. This is a little booklet type of magazine popular in the 1930's and 40's. It is geared for the radio hobbiest. Back then, radio was still new and millions of people enjoyed building their own radios from parts or even kits. This magazine was for the people to read, learn, and discuss topics of interest. In this issue is an article showing the home hobbiest how to listen to the Japanese coded transmissions at home. It teaches you how to understand the codes and it even shows you how to break the Japanese Navy Codes at home. So to me much of the arguement over when could our Navy read the Japanese Codes becomes irrelavent with the solution published in a hobby magazine seven months before the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Regarding the question: Did they use their radios on the way to Pearl Harbor; the answer is a resounding YES! They had to!
The Japanese Navy took a northern route just below the Alutian Islands then turned south to Pearl Harbor. During the third week of November this large convoy was hit by a severe winter storm. These big storms are common in the northern Pacific this time of year.
The Japanese convoy was scattered over a huge area of the Pacific Ocean. The commanders had to use radio to form up their convoy again. When ships are thiry and sixty miles away it is not possible to signal them by semephore (signal flags). Radio was the way it had to be done. And yes indeed our West Coast radio amatuers were listneing closely as the Japanese convoy found one ship after another. It was quite time consuming and once the ships gathered around they had to sail into a protective formation taking even more time.
Station CAST knew this convoy was coming when small groups began meeting outside several Navy bases and then sailed at random up to the very northern Japanese Islands. Then the time came to sail east. Station CAST was in Corrigador Island. This is why the men and files were smuggled out by PT boat and submarine. These men knew too much to let them be prisoners.
As you read more about Pearl Harbor you will also want Stinnets book: Day of Deciet. These two books go hand in hand and both are available at Amazon.
Whatever you do read! Let it be a passion in you. Learn and love to learn. Never stop regardless of your age. Some of the Pearl Harbor books are written with a liberal slant. It is too bad because I like a book without a political slant. There are enough politics involved when author Stinnet tries and tries to get informatiom through the Freedom of Information Act. An American law to keep govt records open. The unexpected part of this FOIA is to de-classify SECRET documents.
Some authors such a Stinnet have done very well with this, Willey has not done as well. However, Willey has done very well in planting the reading and learning seed in others. Willey helps the student of history learn what it means to be hungry for information. Be sure to Read Willey's book along with Stinnets book. You will have fun for sure! George Morgenstern write an excellent book and never forget Crocker's book : Roosevelt's Red Road to Russia. There are about eight or ten books to read that will shatter your thoughts of how it was. Now you graduate into a small group who know. Harry Elmer Barnes wrote several books and edited one named after a phrase he (Beard) coined himself. Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace. This is a group of eight authors driven to tell the truth just like Stinnett and Morgenstern did. A chapter in Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace deals with George Orwells 1984. This is the real back story for the book or movie. If you read this then the rest you read will fall into place. No more confusion taking place. As you read more you learn that the conspiracy is put forth by our govt, and the anti-dote is given by folks like Wiley who are quiet, sincere information sources. When thinking of Pearl Harbor it is fair to ask yourself ........... why in the world are any Pearl Harbor papers still marked secret after 67 years? Read! Read more! Have fun and fill your mind with thoughts! Travel to far away countries in your mind. Have fun and never leave your couch!!!

5 out of 5 stars Needs better writing - start to finish. But ..........2006-05-25

This book is Willey's ne plus ultra - he was clearly driven to write it and to self-publish it. While it adds much to the extant Pearl Harbor historiography; it is not recommended to the uninitiated, however. For example, those who do not know that the United States was a declared neutral country prior to Pearl Harbor and what that means will miss some of Willey's conclusions. Clearly much more editing is needed as Willey's writing is, in far too many places, severely and sadly disjointed.

But, even given the above, his text anent the Japanese Naval Operations Code (Chapter Two) and the highlighting "pre-Pearl Harbor Japanese Naval Despatches" found in SRH-406 (Appendix A) indicate just how unsettled Pearl Harbor remains even today. This is worthy of the reader's attention, with the recognition that many Pearl Harbor materials remain classified even after decades of FOIA requests.

In Chapter Two, for instance, Willey makes the connection is to British Navy Cypher No. 3 which troubles the NSA even now as the continued censorship of Safford's SRH-149 shows; further, the notes on page 168 point to the many inconsistencies about "codebook" values and their "source." In Appendix A is shown the basic and elementary linguistic forsenic analysis as to when Japanese Naval message translations actually occurred - that is, those SRNs cited were translated in 1941 via Willey.

Also found in Willey is an overview of the well-known (See Kahn's The Codebreakers) attack on codes such as JN-25B, where a detailed example is used. Explained also are the numerous "less than secure" aspects of the code itself (e.g., divisible by three), Japanese code clerks exercising a lack of proper procedures, for example, "tailing." Willey notes that the JN25B code had precisely 16,409 values; far fewer than the often quoted 33,333 or 50,000, implying a much more complicated code. Bring a pad and pencil to "follow" his examples. JN25B really was a very simple code to break.

For those untutored in the many esoteric threads of the Pearl Harbor saga - nescient, naive, and gullible absolutes remain evident. Consider Budiansky's "none" as compared with "some" from Gish and Parker (each senior NSA historians). These amply display the many gaps in the fundamental knowledge regarding Pearl Harbor.

Obviously the next Pearl Harbor chukker is still to come.

1 out of 5 stars Great Work Of Fiction.......2004-11-05

Its a shame this book fails in its promise to expose a conspiracy but it makes for some good fiction. The author seems to feel that FDR was a communist and the reason he allowed Pearl Harbor to be attacked is to spread communisim around the world.

I was left confused and bewilderd by Mr. Willey's arguments as most of the evidence presented was taken out of order or mixed and matched to fit his argument.

                  1 out of 5 stars Outdated Fraud.......2002-12-07

This book is a mess of every conspiracy under the sun. It was proven false by Budiansky and MANY others. THE KEY documents that CONSPIRACY theorists (like Willey) told us the government was keeping SECRET were DECLASSIFIED in 1998 and 1999 and are at the National Archives at College Park. They state that as of December 1, 1941, only 10 percent of the code groups and 5 percent of the additive groups had been recovered in AN-1 (aka JN-25B). Also a report by OP-20-G on decrypts produced in various Japanese code systems for each month of 1941 reports the number of decrypts in JN-25 as "none" Futhermore a complete internal history of the solution of JN-25, was written at the end of WWII. This document, which provides great cryptologic detail, explains how JN-25 was broken during each period. It fully confirms the testimony of the USN personnel involved. By the time of the Pearl Harbor attack, no JN-25 message had been read for intelligence value.
I'd also like to say that ALL of the Japanese officers involved including, Abe, Chigusa, Fuchida, Fujita, Genda, Goto, Ishiguro, Kusaka, Maki, Matsumoto and Yoshioka all maintain radio silence was strictly observed. Fuses were removed from the transmitters and the transmitter keys were disabled. Read ("The Pearl Harbor Papers") It was NOT possible! Willey, it seems will not engage in defending his work. More that likely he knows that it is outdated.

1 out of 5 stars Myth making and outright falsehoods........2002-12-04

Mark's book simply fuels the fantasy world of conspiracy "fans". He routinely takes quotes out of context, ignores inconvenient facts and distorts information to promote his own program, that of hate for FDR. Compare this book with Gordon Prange's works. It's easy to tell which person did the work and gives a rational view of the events surrounding this sad day in US history. If you want to see where Wiley has distorted the original information, check out www.ibiblio.org/pha, where thousands of pages of text await the person who doesn't want to be lead by the nose.

2 out of 5 stars Fold out card with pictures of birds.......2007-02-19

I assumed this would be more of a book. It is a fold out laminated card with birds. For each bird there is a picture, scientific name, and size. It is grouped by perching birds, water birds etc.

I was hoping for some more text for a first time bird watcher going to Hawaii.

I kept this lightweight piece with me at all times while walking around. There were abundant birds and I liked knowing their names.

3 out of 5 stars Good for quick reference, bad for bird watchers.......2005-03-16

This is a great, small, fold out card for beginning bird enthusiasts who want a quick reference to birds in Hawaii. But if you are a bird watcher, or even close, this little pamphlet might not be for you. There are no details on the birds, their habitats, calls, etc. The pictures are good, but I expected more from this item.

Don't buy this expecting a book; it's just a small pamphlet with photographs. Overall it'll be useful, but it could be better if used as a supplement with a real bird watchers book for Hawaii.

4 out of 5 stars "Hawaii Birds" Card -- Useful But Sad.......2004-06-01

This 22"x8.5" "Pocket Naturalist" card folds into six two-sided panels of about 3.5"x8.5". It's copyrighted 2003. Overall, I think it serves the purpose stated in its subtitle: "An Introduction to Familiar Species." The paintings are fairly easy to grasp, both common and scientific names are given, maximum lengths are indicated, and some birds have helpful notes (e.g., for ring-necked duck, "bill has a white ring"). I count 142 different species or subspecies. The last panel has 22 "birding hotspots and sanctuaries" on 4 islands. It's not intended for serious birding, but birdwatchers may wish to carry it to show non-birders what they are supposed to be seeing.

If I could advise the author and Waterford Press, I would suggest: (1) Update the common names and species according to the "Checklist of the Birds of Hawaii - 2002" that is available on the Hawaii Audubon Society Web site. For example: "Warbling Silverbill (Lonchura malabarica) has been changed to African Silverbill (Lonchura cantans)." (2) Add more native Hawaiian names for the birds. (3) Delete birds that are fairly common all over the U.S. (e.g., mallards, rock doves [pigeons], and house sparrows). (4) Add a note or code to indicate which of the remaining species are endangered or threatened.* For example, Hawaiian Goose (Nene), Hawaiian Duck (Koloa), Hawaii Petrel ('Ua'u), Newell's Shearwater ('A'o), Hawaiian Coot ('Alae Ke'oke'o), Black-Necked Stilt (the subspecies listed is the Hawaiian Stilt, A'eo), Peregrine Falcon, Hawaiian Hawk ('Io), Hawaiian Crow ('Alala), 'Oloma'o, Kama'o, Puaiohi, Kauai 'O'o, 'O'u, Palila, Maui Parrotbill, Nukupu'u, 'Akepa, Hawaii Creeper, Oahu Creeper, 'Akohekohe, and Po'ouli are endemic birds that fall into this category. (5) Add the 'Oma'o (Hawai'i Thrush, Myadestes obscurus) and 'Akikiki (Kauai Creeper, Oreomystis bairdi), which are non-threatened endemic* Hawaiian birds found on the Big Island and Kauai respectively. Also add the endemic 'Elepaio (Chasiempis sandwichensis), whose Hawai'i and Kaua'i subspecies are not threatened.

                      Buy this from Amazon.com!

                      * BTW, it's sad that so few Hawaiian birds that are endemic (i.e., that evolved and breed in Hawaii but nowhere else) are neither threatened nor endangered. Besides the 'Oma'o, 'Akikiki, and 'Elepaio mentioned above, the ones on the card are: Hawaiian Noddy (Anous minutus melanogenys, native name Noio, a subspecies of Black Noddy); Hawaiian Owl (Pueo); 'Anianiau; various 'Amakihi's; Maui 'Alauahio (Paroreomyza montana newtoni, a.k.a. Maui Creeper); 'Akeke'e; 'I'iwi; and 'Apapane. The other birds neither threatened nor endangered are human-introduced "aliens," indigenous (i.e., arrived and established themselves on their own), or just visitors.

I recently went on a trip to Hawaii, and, having an interest in birds, I wanted to be able to take an identification guide with me that wouldn't take up too much room. Being a fold-out, laminated thing made out of card-stock, this fit the bill perfectly. I was able to keep it in my purse and didn't have to worry about it getting crushed or ruined by spills. It does have pictures of all the most common birds, as well as their length and some (but not all, which was a bummer) have images of both sexes which is nice. I was lucky enough to spot zebra and spotted doves, a resplendent male red junglefowl (don't let the name fool you, it looks just like your garden-variety chicken), a red-crested cardinal, red-vented bulbul, house finch, common fairy tern, and several others. I didn't get into the rainforest while I was there, but if I did, this guide would come with me. It is a wonderful buy, and even if you don't agree, it's only six dollars. One thing I would like is that there was a little more information about the birds, but this is after all just a pocket guide.
