This a wonderful book for silk painters,whether beginners or old timers.
You will find so many projects, colors, concepts, and techinques,which are very easy to follow,and conceptualize.
I read the book and applied some of the concepts,and created my own as well.

The reader from Ohio who gave the terrible review must have read another book, either that or she doesn't know what she is talking about. Sounds like sourgrapes to me, wonder if she has her own book that isn't doing well. This book is wonderful, clear explanations, clear details on materials needed, fantastic new ideas for silk painting (dyeing). A fabulous book, one of the best, not just for beginners and not a step by step that leaves you in the middle or near the end of the project wondering what to do next. If you buy this book, you WON'T be sorry.
Ms. Nasty gets hers...........2004-04-22
I almost didn't buy this book because of the nasty review (drama, i guess) but WOW am i glad i did. So much that never would have occurred to me because silk is such a 'formal' kind of fabric. Crayons? Awesome. Sugar? Never thought of it. Basic enough in the begining but not your average 'This is how to pick a scarf' book that frustrates people like me who know enough, but want to know more. I didn't need another 'starter' book although i see no reason a beginner couldn't use it, the projects look harder than they are and everything is explained in a clear and concise manner.
It's also refreshing to read a book that's not 'steamer snobbery' meaning if you don't use a steamer you aren't really serious. This book is inspiring and takes the hesitation out expirementing with silk. I mean, crayons and sugar? There must be even more stuff out there to play with.
The photos are professional, the text is clear and there area LOT of project directions. In fact this is the most project dense book i've seen yet (and i've seen a lot) with the projects all being capable of heading of into different directions with the same technique.
So, ignore the Nasty review and buy it. Oh, and no, i'm not one of the authors...

If Susan Moyer is benchmark for any silk painting books...this author is not far off! Great book with great ideas. She gives you courage to try her techniques. Like Susan Moyer, I think anything by this author is a great investment. She definetely knows her craft. If I ever wrote a book, I hope it would be like theirs. I hope this has been helpful in your quest for a fine book.
An Inspiration!.......2000-03-20
Finally, a Silk Painting book that inspires you to create your own pieces! Too many how-to books are very short on the nitty-gritty and just show case the author's designs. This book clearly covers the materials, the type of silk used, and the procedure for twelve different silk painting techniques. If you just want designs to copy, there are tons of other books. If you want to learn how to do wonderful designs of your own, get this book.

Useful. Compact, reliable, most important sales are well documented, and even minor names of artists are registered. I do regret of not buying it before. Highly professional, well-balanced and calm approach - Hislop's is boasting about multi-million sales, or trends, or tendencies - it gives you the information on the hammer prices within a certain period of time. Amphoto Black and White Data Guide.......2002-10-23
One of the most helpful darkroom as well as general photographic guides that I have found. The best thing about it is that it informs you on all the major brands on the market i.e. Kodak, Fuji, Agfa, Ilford, etc. unlike guides published by the companies themselves who of course only advise you about their products. As a consumer you need to know about all of them. I have been waiting for an update for a few years now, which is what I hoped to find when I looked it up in Amazon. The guide is still helpful but there are many new products since 1993.
The best darkroom and photographer's handbook.......1997-07-01
This book is invaluable for the
darkroom worker, both amateur and pro. It lists properties and develop times of all films, describes printing papers in depth and gives information on every kind of photo chemical you ever wanted to use but were afraid to buy. I only wish it were updated to include newer films and papers, but it's still the handiest book I own.

Happy 1st grader.......2007-05-29
I bought three of these Werewolf Club books for my [...] son who just finished [...]. They are the first chapter books that he can read on his own, and he likes the stories so much and is so proud that he can read them, that he sat the rest of the family down and read a few chapters out loud to us. Some of the words are too difficult for him (e.g. except, solicitors), but for the most part he can figure them out independently. The chapters are very short (1-2 pages, usually) and this seems to help him not feel overwhelmed. I recommend these for anyone who likes silly but fun stories, and who is ready for easy chapter books.

This book, 'The Life and Times of Sherlock Holmes', is a glossy, colourful rendering of the great detective's life by Philip Weller and Christopher Roden. Weller, a retiree of the Royal Air Force, is a well-known Sherlockian, founder of S.H.E.R.L.O.C.K. (Sherlock Holmes Enthusiasts Regionally Located Outside the Capital of the Kingdom), is author of many Holmes-related studies. Roden recently provided the introductions to a new edition of the complete canon of the Holmes stories published by Oxford University Press; he has also written several articles for journals related to Holmes, and has served as editor of A.C.D., the journal of the Arthur Conan Doyle Society. With credentials such as this, the reader can be sure of two things - the detail and information is going to be worthwhile, and the love of the subject going into the study is tremendous.
This is a not just a biographical sketch of Sherlock Holmes, but also a visual treat for the reader. There over 200 illustrations in the book, many in full colour. These come from the original sketches that accompanied the stories in the Strand magazine, from photographs and movie stills during the film/television series years, pictures of Sherlock Holmes memorabilia, souvenirs, places mentioned in the stories, and various images of Conan Doyle.
The authors look at several topics in turn - the world context of Sherlock Holmes (both London and other places), the actual stories of the canon, the life of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and various lists including groups and a brief (and necessarily incomplete) bibliography. The format, particularly for the discussion of the stories, is very good both for reading and for reference - this provides a short synopsis of each story, including major events, places and characters, as well as original publication information.
This is a worthy addition to any Sherlockian or Holmesian library.

To truly appreciate any of Doyle's writing you have to understand the time and place it occured.

The name of the town of St-Le has a powerful resonance for American Normandy veterans. Both the German defenders and the Allies were aware that the town was the strategic key to western Normandy. St-Le had already been subjected to a massive bombardment campaign before D-Day, as it formed the hub of the local road network. Major General Charles H. Book Description
Roman B.J. Kwasniewski, son of Polish immigrants, used his camera to document life in Milwaukee's Polish community during the early decades of the twentieth century. His images transform the particulars of everyday life at local businesses, in homes and classrooms, and at cultural, social, and recreational events into powerful depictions of the immigrant experience. With an introduction by well-known Milwaukee historian John Gurda, this book offers rare insight into the daily lives of a proud people struggling to maintain their heritage while living in a time of rapid change.
While Kwasniewski's camera captured the sights and sounds of Milwaukee at the turn of the century from the perspective of a single ethnic group in a single neighborhood, his photographs resonate far beyond Milwaukee's Polish South Side. They illuminate the particulars of American life during the early decades of the twentieth century. "What we see, reflected in the distant mirror," says John Gurda, "is ourselves."

The collaborative effort of John Gurda (Seven-time winner of the Wisconsin Historical Society's "Award of Merit") and Christel T. Maass (Academic Librarian, Special Collections Department, Golda Meir Library, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee), Illuminating The Particular is an impressive compilation of the photography of Roman B. J. Kwasniewski in a documentary celebration of the Polish American immigrant experience in Milwaukee, Wisconsin prior to the years of World War II. This is a good book for young children (7-10) starting in birding. There is a lot of interesting facts about common birds. There is also ideas for homemade treats and homemade bird boxes and baths. I enjoyed this book myself. I would recommend it for the young "birder" in your family.
