Excellent Book.......2007-03-10
Great for beginners! I want to learn to draw and look forward to expressing myself. I do not consider myself yet an "artist." However, I bought this book and found it excellent. The instructions are easy to follow and help one obtain very good results. What I need to do is practise. I highly recommend this book.

This is, like all other Parramon texts, a terrible book.
It's the watch-me-do-it kind, so common in this area.
Gouache is different from the other mediums, so it shouldn't
br mixed with them. Stay away.
Not As Advertised.......2001-10-09
Like so many who write books on art, this author doesn't cover the subject as promised. Gouache IS NOT THE SAME as watercolors in pans, tubes or bottles. If you are going to advertise on the front of your book that you cover the subject of gouache, you should do so in depth, not just lump it in with the rest of the water based paints. I could not find any reference to this medium other than on the cover.
This is also not a complete course on drawing and painting!
I returned the book.

As they developed, the first major manufacturer, Ford, brought forth the Model C Delivery Van in 1905. It was not a runaway success. They produced 10. The 1914 Dodge was another matter. Excellent Photography.......2000-09-13
This book shows classic pickup bodies, some with modern engines, very clearly. The photos are exceptionally vivid in color. The chosen trucks are highly interesting, and the settings for the photographs very well chosen.
I was not even aware it was possible to produce a book with level of clarity in the photographs. As a photographer myself, I was left wondering precisely how the photographs were done. i.e. Shutter speed, fstop, film type, filters, camera, lens and lighting. While the subject of the book, trucks, is not photography, the pictures, none the less, could serve as models of vehicle photography. Even a single paragraph on the topic would be appreciated by this reviewer. In a lucky world, perhaps the author or someone else familiar with the production techniques will further comment.
My three year old son loves trucks, and this book has been a nice vehicle to help us share some time together.

If you like pickups from the beginning up until the 1950's, this is for you. Excellent photography, highlights some models not usually done (Diamond T, Hudson, Reo). Good home-grown stories about each one (where it came from, what the owner is like, et al) makes this book one of my favorites.

Excellent work by a naval historian who "gets it".......2001-11-14
This is the book later republished under the title _Fleet to Fleet Encounters_. It is an excellent overview of the naval battles of Tsushima, Jutland and the Philippine Sea. While the Jutland section may have been overtaken by new analyses published later, the Philippine Sea section is a major account of this battle which is somewhat neglected in comparison with Leyte Gulf, 4 months later. Particularly illuminating is Grove's use of the battle to effectively demolish criticisms of aircraft carriers as "having half their aircraft devoted to self defense" by pointing out that the success of the US fighters in destroying the rebuilt Japanese carrier air force was a decisive victory in and of itself. Much better than Keegan's foray into naval history.
