Book Description
Traditionally a critical component of the education of any architect was to draw the ruins of ancient Rome, reconstructing either from ancient sources or, more often, pure fantasy, what the original structures must have looked like. From this training emerged generations of architects imbued
with the aesthetic ideals that would form the Neoclassical and Beaux-Arts building styles.
In this magnificently printed volume are reproduced some of the most extraordinarily handsome drawings of the ruins of ancient Rome made by French "Prix de Rome" architects from 1775 through 1925. Accompanied by text that explains how the Prix de Rome was awarded and the significance of the prize in
the history of architecture, as well as how the study of ancient models formed the basis for nineteenth- and early twentieth-century architectural styles, these drawings provide an invaluable understanding of how the modern imagination recorded and transformed ancient fragments into a modern
architectural idiom.

Book Description
Through words and pictures distilled from more than 15 years in the cowboy Southwest, photographer Kurt Markus takes us along on his personal journey of discovery of a working life that lives at once in myth and in reality. This new, beautifully produced book distills the best of his work, an enduring and timeless view into ranch life in Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado. Following his hugely successful books After Barbed Wire and Buckaroo, this is the cowboy book Markus always wanted to make. Oversized, with 155 exquisite tritone and varnished photographs, and enriched by journal entries by the photographer that reveal an intimate, sometimes lonely, often humorous look into his experiences taking pictures of people and horses, cattle and landscapes, this spectacular book is for anyone who loves the idea of the cowboy.

Cowpuncher - A Book of Real Life, Real Cowboys.......2001-02-13
When I first started the book, I could not set it down. I could feel myself melt into time as I read on. I felt like I was a cowboy working the range. The smell of fresh coffee, and a cool brisk morning awaited me with every turn of the page. The pictures were beautiful. But even more, they were real.

Customer Reviews:
Two years of Betty, the most scantily dressed cartoon girl.......2005-05-16
The way she was drawn, Betty Boop could be considered a form of soft porn. On the cover of this collection, she is lying in bed wearing some form of slip and approximately half her breast is exposed. In most captions, she is wearing a very short dress with a garter on her left thigh. The top of the dress looks like a set of mouse ears, as the only thing it covers is her breasts. Her muscular aunt Tillie swings her fists in many of the cartoons and Bubby the bratty baby also regularly appears. Given the state of modern cartoons, Betty is a bit of archaic character. Nevertheless, if you have seen some of her cartoons, you will probably enjoy reading these comics taken from the color Sunday pages.
Oh, why don't you behave?.......2003-05-21
Collecting the complete color comics from 1934-1936, this volume even includes the earliest strips featuring actress Helen Kane, the Boop-Boop-a-Doop Girl. While Fleischer dropped the Kane conceit relatively quickly, the strip's Hollywood elements continued. Despite the Koko the Clown "Out of the Inkwell" anomaly, the storyline is relatively continuous, portraying page-long parables touching on fashion faux pas, affectionate appraisals, the foibles of fandom, liberated women, and challenging children. The recurring characters of the director, Aunt Tilly, Hunky, and Bubby contribute some consistency, but for the most part, the strip's cameo characters -- including Betty's many love interests, pretty boys all -- are relatively interchangeable. Bill Blackbeard's introductory essay adds some valuable cultural context to what might otherwise be mistaken as a one-joke wonder or Hollywood licensing deal, making the book a solid source of comic strip history.

Terrific! Hard to find advice in a valuable package........2007-05-05
This is a unique book that was long overdue. The tips in this book are real time-savers. Yes, someday I might have discoverd them without reading this book but then, maybe not. I'm glad I found them all in this nice package. I value my time, so I'm sure that putting even a couple of these practical ideas to work will pay for the book many times over. A lot of these tips and tricks are buried in large user guides I'm sure but I really haven't seen many useful ones, specially for advisors, all in one easy-to-read place like this before. Thanks Kip!
An extremely valuable tool.......2006-04-17
This book should be the bible for anyone who is attempting to grow a business. It is effecively designed to nurture any entrepreneur venture. It is great!
practical advice for non-profits too.......2005-06-16
This book is terrific! Easy to read and packed with concrete, practical advice. I work in the non-profit sector and half expected that "Winning Clients" would not apply to me -- but it really does. The author's tips are practical, sensible, and applicable to virtually any situation in which you need to find clients/customers or funding/sponsors. He's also great at de-mystifying the "wired world" in a way that really helps you make the most out of technology. ...Who COULDN'T benefit from learning how to "work smarter, not harder"??
GREAT IDEAS.......2005-06-10
A great book that can be picked up and read for 10 minutes, 1/2 hr, or more depending on the amount of time available. Pick the chapter from the Contents and go. I like the TIPS and the Web Links. Working more efficiently in this wired world is what its all about and this book gives you a lot of Great Ideas. The communication chapter was the best part of the book.
Knowledge Journal--Customer Relationship Management.......2005-04-24
For anyone actively involved in large account management, you will find this book very valuable--whether or not your company uses any sort of CRM type program. One key element with account management is change of personnel. With such changes, we lose institutional knowledge and have to constantly replicate this effort. Mr. Gregory provides a format to help eliminate this problem with his knowledge journal and provides, from his website, the format to download in Word.
If everyone learned how to use their pc's just a bit better everyday, performance across the board would likely increase as you would be more productive at work and "not working" on your pc. Mr. Gregory provides many examples of how to save time and become more productive in your job.
A good read for any person that deals with any sort of sales job or needs CRM or manages clients. Many useful tips, some you may already know, but lots are consolidated here in an easy to follow format.

Book Description
At a time in history when conflict erupts daily in far-flung corners of the world, ending severe deprivation may be critical to global peace and stability. Yet we are far from reaching the goal of reducing hunger by 2025. The authors of this book bring good news: hunger can be banished in our lifetime. They first distill what is already known about fighting hunger and then report on important new research findings and projections that show it can be done, through new and renewed institutions, scientific innovation, global economics and investment, and sustainable environmental practices. Although the book encompasses a wide array of ideas, arguments, facts, and figures, it is not a dry, academic text. Anyone wanting a better understanding of poverty and hunger and how to end it will benefit from reading it.
The text is strikingly illustrated with photographs by the renowned Brazilian photographer, Sebastião Salgado.
Customer Reviews:
Good readable book about world hunger problems.......2003-09-05
I liked this book because it shows there are still some economists who can write clearly about issues in the real world without geting bogged down in jargon or hung up on abstract theories. This is not a casual read, but the analysis and writing are very clear and accessable to any intelligent person who might be interested in world hunger, food security or food trade issues. It was also nice to see a university press willing to include photos taken by Sebastiao Salgado, who I think is the world's gretest living photographer.
An excellent read!!.......2003-09-03
As a student of international health policy, I found this book contributed greatly to developing my own perspective on the plight of global hunger and the issues surrounding food security policy. It was an interesting read, easy to comprehend, and very well written. I recommend it not only to students, but anyone with a desire to become more aware of the important issues regarding the world's hunger. 5 stars!

Minuchin is the man; if he can't do it, no-one can.......2001-05-12
The nation's pioneer in family counseling and therapy shares his priceless wisdom with us in this book. Minuchin is a towering figure whose genius and brilliance will continue to help many families save themselves. Thank you Dr. Minuchin for writing this book.
since it's by minuchin, it's a winner...but..........2000-12-10
i read this about two months ago, so take this with a grain of salt. then again, maybe it's better, cause here's what's stuck with me. it was a good book, but it really helped that i was into salvador minuchin already before reading it. if you don't know him, he's quite an icon, and i recommend watching some of his videos, because they really point to his genius, and for me, were the inspiration to want to delve deeper into his work.
this book tells a lot of minuchin's history, his development as a doctor and therapist, some early strengths of his as well as foibles and weaknesses (interesting stuff!), and just a fair amount of stuff you'd expect in any 3/4ths of the way decent autobiography.
anyway, my mind is shot so i'll leave this book in your hands. if you're interesting in minuchin, i don't think you'll regret reading this book, but i wouldn't recommend it as an intro to him or his work...

Good, But dated.......2007-02-16
Okay, this is a decent guide to military careers, as far as the Idiot Guides go. If you are new to the military, or unfamiliar with the variety of opportunities available, then I would recommend you buy and read this book before seeing a recruiter. As a retired military officer I know that the military has shanged significantly in the past few years, with job classifications being revamped and many entrance requirements being adjusted to reflect the current demand for special forces and combat related career fields. This book needs to be updated and reprinted, but remains a good resource.
If you are interested in becoming an officer, you may want to read "How to Become a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Military," by Ron Taylor.

Book Description
In 1974, the Massachusetts Audubon Society and the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife launched a five-year survey to map the distribution of all the birds that breed in the Commonwealth--the first such comprehensive effort in North America. Nearly 600 volunteers spent countless hours in the field collecting data. This landmark volume presents the results of their efforts.
The book includes distribution maps showing possible, probable, and confirmed breeding areas for 198 Massachusetts nesting species on a grid of 989 ten-square-mile blocks. Opposite each species map is a summary account giving historical perspective, relative abundance, habitat, seasonal schedule, nest, egg, and song descriptions, clutch size, egg dates, number of broods, and other pertinent details.
Each species account is illustrated with a scrupulously accurate, watercolor portrait by award-winning nature artists John Sill and Barry Van Dusen. The book also includes a set of eight transparent overlay maps in an attached pocket that allow the reader to correlate key environmental factors with the distribution of nesting species. Introductory sections describe the atlas survey methodology, and two appendixes document bird species known to breed in Massachusetts before and after, but not during, the survey period, and list scientific names of plants and animals (other than birds) noted in the text.
This is a book that will appeal not just to ornithologists, but to anyone who appreciates the remarkable diversity of bird life in Massachusetts.
Customer Reviews:
Offers over a hundred grid maps.......2004-05-06
Massachusetts residents who are more than casual bird observers will find this weighty reference a treasure trove of invaluable information: Collaborative compiled and co-edited by Wayne Petersen and W. Roger Meservey, the Massachusetts Breeding Bird Atlas offers over a hundred grid maps almost two hundred depicting the distribution of all breeding birds, provides full-page accounts for all confirmed species, and includes nature art by John Sill and Barry Van Dusen. Add distribution maps and you have a superb contribution to the growing library of ornithological reference literature.
