How to Develop a Watercolor Painting Without Fear of Canging It.......2007-03-05

This is one of the few books on watercolor technique that takes the reader along for a ride within the artist's mind as he paints. We share Silverman's thoughts, even his anguish at times, as he develops a painting. His technique, coupled with his honesty, takes a lot of the fear out of painting with this medium. So many instructional books make us awed with the author's paintings, but leave us with the sense that we could never hope to achieve such perfection. This book is different. We understand what the artist is going through as he paints, and he tells us not only how he makes changes, but why. This is a wonderful watercolor book that I would recommend to anyone seriously interested in watercolor.

Nice instruction from modern master.......2006-03-14

Rated 4 stars because some of it is in black and white, but this out-of-print book is excellent otherwise. It's clear, very interesting, and a great insight into Burt's methods for this little known technique. I personally have studied with Burt and have done this technique for 17 years, and I now have a blog that has clear picture demonstrations of how to do it! I cover some of the little known aspects that Burt does not cover in either his videos or his books.

The finest watercolor book ever.......1999-03-25

i was struggling with the medium of watercolor for the longest time, and had little or no direction on how to improve my technique. then one day my art teacher suggested i peruse this book, and wow, my perceptions of watercolor changed instantly. this is the best book on watercolor available. if you are interested at all in the full potential of the medium, you must take a look at this book- you will forever be changed.

First settled by Stephen F. Austin's colonists in the early nineteenth century, Colorado County has deep roots in Texas history. Mainly rural and agrarian until late in the twentieth century, Colorado County was a cotton-growing region whose population was about evenly divided between blacks and whites. These life-long neighbors led separate and unequal lives, memories of which still linger today. To preserve those memories, Patsy Cravens began interviewing and photographing the older residents of Colorado County in the 1980s. In this book, she presents photographs and recollections of the last generation, black and white, who grew up in the era of Jim Crow segregation.

The folks in Colorado County have engrossing stories to tell. They recall grinding poverty and rollicking fun in the Great Depression, losing crops and livestock to floods, working for the WPA, romances gone wrong and love gone right, dirty dancing, church and faith, sharecropping, quilting, raising children, racism and bigotry, and even the horrific lynching of two African American teenagers in 1935. The Colorado County residents' stories reveal an amazing resiliency and generosity of spirit, despite the hardships that have filled most of their lives. They also capture a rural way of life that was once common across the South, but is now gone forever.

Small Business in Latin America. Examples and cases........2004-08-20

The book was written with the collaboration of 13 Latin American authors: "El Nuevo Sistema de Gestión para las PYMEs" published by Editorial Norma in Mexico, March,2003 for the Mexican and Central American market and with another orange cover and title ("Un Nuevo Sistema de Gestión para lograr PYMES de Clase Mundial") in Colombia, June 2003 for the South American market.
The second edition will be published in October, 2004 for all markets and will have more cases.

This book was written by Carlos S. Andriani diagrama-dia@diagrama-dia.com.br ; www.diagrama-dia.com.br (Brazil), Mr. Rodolfo Eduardo Biasca info@biasca.com; www.biasca.com (Argentina) and Mauricio Rodriguez with the help of ten authors that prepared eleven case studies. Most of the authors are former AOTS trainees.

LAJACONET is a network of consultants interested in human and economic development of Latin America. It was formed by a group of AOTS members in 1996, when consultants from Brazil, Argentina and Mexico met in Yokohama. Later that year a second meeting was held in Lima, Peru. At this meeting and with the advice of professor Yoshio Kondo, LAJACONET began its activities with the study about Human Development and Quality in Latin America towards XXI century.

LAJACONET has many activities; the most important of all is the implementation and improvement of the Dia LAJACONET system. This system was developed based on the techniques that the authors learned in Japan and other countries.

Present Latin American culture is characterized by the mixed new culture of Indian and European having strong values of its people, languages and religions. There are strong common points in the vast land. It is thought that by building over their common points and sharing with new telecommunication technologies, they are hoped to combine and develop their joint efforts needed for continuous quality improvement of their countries."
The book has three chapters. The first one, written by Mr. Rodríguez Martínez, describes some of the techniques that form the system such as the TQM vehicles, the 5 S, Problem Solving and Basic QC Tools.
Chapter two was written by Mr. Carlos S. Andriani. This chapter discusses the human side of the company and covers aspects such as leadership, teamwork, human values and means towards the liberation of the energy of human beings.

Mr. Rodolfo E. Biasca wrote chapter three. This chapter considers the information needed for the competitive evaluation, in this part of the book we cover many techniques that allow the company to diagnose its situation and measure its competitive level.

The successful cases present the efforts of eleven companies in the implementation of the system. We present Five cases from Mexico, two from Argentina and one from Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.

The main characteristic of this book is its focus on small and medium sized companies and the problems that most of them currently face in our region. The book aims to offer a complete system that will help these companies improve their situation.

Still number one in International Management.......2007-07-06

This book was published in 2004. I have used it for the past three years in a college course with exactly the same title. It covers the cultural differences of managerial operations in multinational enterprises. The PowerPoint slide is useful for lectures. Many in-class exercises were done using articles from: BusinessWeek, Crains NY Business, Economist (online), Financial Times (online), Forbes and Fortune magazines.

The book will be better if more real-world examples were given on CEO of Ikea, Mittal Steel or News Corporation. Students did the reseach on the CEOs of these firms and reported their final projects. Final projects were done individually or in a group. Students generally like the book except the cost. But the book is cheaper than most of the other international management titles. I would recommend this book to everyone.

Great book describing culture.......2000-09-15

Excellent Book. I was impressed on how the author was able to showthe various difficulties that are faced and how one can go about managing them. Real scenarios helped a lot in understanding the difficulties better in International relations.

At Summit Springs, Colorado on July 11, 1869, Maj Eugene A. Carr led the Fifth United States Cavalry and a force of Pawnee scouts in an attack on Chief Tall Bull's Cheyenne Dog Soldier village. Also prominent in the fight was chief of scouts, William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody. When the day's fighting was over, fifty-two Cheyenne Dog Soldiers lay dead. On that day, too, a soldier picked up what appeared to be a plain army ledgerbook. When opened, the book revealed page upon page of colored drawings - all rendered by Cheyenne warrior-artists. The book came to the Colorado Historical Society in 1903, and there it remained for nearly one hundred years, largely unknown or forgotten. Until now. Working in close association with Cheyenne people, the authors have produced an unprecedented look at the Dog Soldiers, treating these ledger drawings as historical documents - as the history of the Dog Soldiers by the warrior-artists themselves. Using Cheyenne sources - both past and present - as well as U.S. military records, legal depositions, diaries, and contemporary newspaper accounts, the authors analyze drawings, identifying the warriors and describing the actions depicted. With more than one hundred beautifully reproduced color drawings, this volume presents not only a groundbreaking departure from standard ledgerbook interpretation but also a riveting story of the Cheyenne Dog Soldiers making a last stand for their existence as a free people.

On September 17, 1868, Eugene Carr's Fifth United States cavalry guided by "Buffalo Bill" Cody, surprised and attacked Tall Bull's village of Cheyenne Dog Soldiers at Summit Springs, Colorado Territory. In one of the hastily abandonded lodges, a ledger book was found which had been initially captured by the Cheyenne during their retalitory raids following the Sand Creek massacre four years earlier. In the book were drawings of events of great valor done by Cheyenne warrior/artists.

The authors have reproduced the pages of the original ledgerbook in their original size and have added very detailed explainations of the drawings.

This book is very well researched and produced. David F. Halaas is the Colorado State Historian and Andrew Masich is a past president of that organization.
