This is a great reference -text book- for anyone who wants to learn about the principles of interior decorating or interior design. From learning the elements of design, to being able to understand what defined the style or interior decor of an era. Lots pictures, illustrations and at the end of each chapter you can test your acquired knowledge by answering its questions and/or doing the hands-on-assignement. If you are serious about learning the ABC of decorating, this is the book for you.

The Late Byzantine Army by Mark C. Bartusis.......2000-06-18
Mark C. Bartusis' book is a tightly written and well organized scholarly exploration of the Byzantine army in the final two-and-a-half centuries of the empire. Divided into two sections, the first part of the work is an overview of the army's role in the political organization of the empire. The section concludes with a very well-written short essay on the fall of Constantinople. The second section is a technical discussion of the organization and financing of the army. Coming to the book as a general reader with an interest in Byzantine history, I found the glossary of court and military terms very helpful. The bibliography provides a wealth of possibilities for future reading. Bartusis' writing is scholarly but it is not stilted and overly-formal as is the work of many scholar-historians. "The Late Byzantine Army" provides the general reader and the reader of military history with a brief but well-drawn and understandable portrait of the subject.

Book Description
The journal of the Brainerd Mission is an indispensable source for understanding Cherokee culture and history during the early nineteenth century. The interdenominational mission was located in the heart of Cherokee country near present-day Chattanooga. For seven years the Brainerd missionaries kept a journal describing their lives and those of their charges. Although the journal has long been recognized as a significant primary document, it was not fully transcribed or made widely available until now.
The journal entries provide a richly textured and sensitive look at Cherokee life and American missionary activities during the early nineteenth century. They shed new light on the daily lives and personalities of individual Cherokees, as well as on poorly understood aspects of Cherokee politics and religion. The journal provides interesting ethnographic details concerning Cherokee council meetings, ceremonial occasions, gender relations, and the internal social and political tensions among families. Of equal interest are the complex and often conflicted attitudes of the missionaries, who were interested in Cherokee traditional culture but simultaneously worked to change it.

From the title, I was concerned that this book would be a "Disneyfied" tale of a cute ball of fluff. Far from it! This book took me through an incredible journey into the spirit of a tiny, but mighty little warrior. Roher writes with a sense of deep respect for the intricate balance in the web of life and how we of the "two legged kind" often unknowingly disrupt it. I was humbled by the wisdom and courage of these wild creatures. We are often not aware of the life and death struggles going on right in our own backyards. I was humbled by the wisdom and courage of these wild creatures. An enlightening and wonderful read. I loved it!

I couldn't disagree more with the other reviewer. I've fed chickadees from my hand, so I was interested in reading this. It was hard to put down, it was such a beautifully written and interesting story. It's also important in that it teaches about how one's actions can affect the whole.
I was extremely touched by this book, and highly recommend it to anyone who loves nature.

Cluttered by New Age lunacy, cheerfully anti-scientific, full of assumptions and anthropomorphism, this book may go over well with the Hallmark duckies-and-bunnies crowd, but birders will find it all a bit hard to swallow. Although the author is obviously sincere, and often capable of close observation, "Mr. Picky" is just too heavy-laden with nineteenth-century sentimentality and moralizing to take seriously.
