Israel, and more specifically, Jerusalem, may be among the more photographed locales these days, but you've never seen photographs like this. Wendy Lamm manages to illustrate truths about the situation on the ground here that are all too often impossible to articulate in another medium. She blends an artist's eye with crack photojournalist skills to come up with a compelling series of photographs that push the envelope of the genre. Little wonder that this talented photojournalist won a World Press Association award for spot news (Europe's version of the Pulitzer Prize)for her gun-level view of street violence in the West Bank. With an introduction by poet Arthur Miller, this is an important book by an emerging artist, and one worthy of purchase for anyone with an interest in, or love of, this tumultuous region, its history and its residents.

But war and capitalism in the Middle East and Europe is only made discernable after meeting, like back in America, the people that make up its' backbone of families, the builders of roads and skyscrapers; and now by those who has become a part of his life. With a combination of poetry and short stories branching out from the foundation of the book called (I Come From The Land of Miracles), he explains the plight of homelessness of children specifically (section titled Children and AMCS) and families in what he terms as A Most Complex Situation (AMCS) and the auspices of trying to overcome it, to the plight of a group of young women who has migrated from Europe to the Middle East (and visa versa) as well as other parts of the world in the section titled Women of The L.O.M., while using his own life, his family and the world that he now lives in back in America to make prudent and empathetic comparisons. From Holland to Germany and to France, juxtaposed to the diverse Middle East, and his own country, he tries to add methodology to these different parts of globalization where some are viewed as protectionist societies trying to choose between limited globalization, (only when it's necessary) and those who are viewed as trying to bring it about more quickly.

I was somewhat cut off while writing this review...
But being a friend of the author and also knowing the below reviewer (Charlene Thomas) whom his second review is for since she is recovering from breast cancer and says she's doing fine; a kind memorial by the author to his Ex-wife. Though I disagree with the guy who calls himself a professor, (or woman) and thought that it was nicely written. Very enlightening and informative.

Hope for insight.......2006-02-17

Being a literary professor, I am drawn with curiosity to books that are cast into literary bins for special charity events. I came across this book and was pulled in by the title. Globalization in PeloGo's mind seems to be the penetration of the vaginas of women from as many countries as he can meet, with the delusion that he is immediately in love with each one and is so appreciative of their contributions to his life. His idea of free trade is perhaps the sex for which he doesn't pay. Delusional, with an incessant desire to travel, and leaning on the names of celebrities to boister his credibility gives question as to his stability. At times, his work is vibrant, at other times, the pages are filled with word salads as if many are writing through one. Perhaps there is more to the writer than he has shown, perhaps this was a test to see if we could see the real Otradom. Hopefully he will grow as a writer and entertain us with a solitary wisdom rather than with the ramblings of many channeled through one pen.

The Vietnam Wall - Its Offerings.......2007-08-24

This is a moving book about the artifacts left at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington,D.C. Reading and seeing the pictures, about the different artifacts: stories, letters and notes are of interest on there own admission, but to tie it to the individual name on that black slab of granite, America's tombstone of the Vietnam War is mythical.

Have picked it up a number of times, since reading and digesting its contents.

No matter how you may feel about the war, the humanity revealed in this book will touch your heart. A little keepsake or memento left behind to a buddy, brother, husband or father is more than politics or justification of warfare it is about an offering to a loved one that died. That old saying a picture is worth a thousand words is true with this book, I found myself just staring blindly at insignificant objects that in any other place could easily be looked over, but here its is given to pay homage to the dead and maybe give a little peace to the living.

Eventhough I do not understand the Vietnam war, and I was not alive at the time, this book really touched me. The guilt, pain, and loss that the offerings people had left made me cry. There was a picture with a little girl and her dad, and a veteren was telling about the day he met the man in the photo. I think that story will stick with me forever. I saw the pain of innocense lost through the artifacts, and the truth of the poeple in that war was revealed. I reconmmend this book to anyone from that era to the youth of mine.

I sobbed through Offerings at the Wall. Sobbed for the loss of innocence and young lives lost. For anyone raised in the 1960s this should be a must read to understand and come to grips with the imapct the Vietnam War had on our generation. God speed to our veterans and to the brave young men and women of today's military still fighting for our freedom. Please take the time to thank a veteran for his/her service to our country.

I bought this book awile ago. Some of the things left behind have letters or notes attached to them. Very chilling. Awesome book for anyone. I love it.

The original kulturkampf pitted Roman Catholicism against Protestant Europe and resulted in numerous Christian martyrs on both sides.

The present kulturkampf is between believers and unbelivers. Krol made important contribution to the cuase of Christianity and Western Civilization and Jones does a good job of retelling it.

Panoramic Study of the Sixties.......2000-09-13

How did the Quakers (intentionally or not) and the major foundations (quite intentionally) create a disrupted Catholic church in the 1960s? Dr. Jones uses his significant research ability and powerful writing skills to craft a very convincing argument. Rich foundations, working under a 501(c)(3) cloak, funded research into an "aesthetically acceptable" contraceptive to market to Catholics. This issued in the estrogen-progesterone pill, which was shilled by a Catholic physician, John Rock. At the same time, Fr. Hesburgh and other academics, hungering for the foundations' research money, set up Notre Dame and other universities as centers of dissent from traditional Christian (not just Catholic) teaching on artificial contraception.

The description of the destruction of Philadelphia's inner city by block-busting, intentionally engineered by East-coast liberals, is worth the price of the book.
