This new book develops an ecological-economics perspective on sustainability at the regional, national and international level. It explores prospects for sustainable development using methods firmly grounded in empirical reality, as well as emphasizing scientific, economic and socio-political concerns. This approach is based on the construction of non-monetary indicators for sustainability, and the application of cost-effectiveness analyses to identify robust alternatives for achievement of the specified policy norms. In calculating the requirements for sustainability the contributors attach importance to multiple criteria decision aid (MCDA) methods of analysis to evaluate the key components of sustainability and help assess the sustainability of a given project. Case studies of water pollutants in the Bretagne region in France and greenhouse gas reduction in Europe are used to investigate resource allocation from this perspective. The contributors utilize the M3ED model - a structural economy-environment simulation model which gives a multi-sectoral representation of a national economy's production, final consumption and environmental pressures - to explore feasible economic futures. It is applied to scenarios in France to demonstrate ways that prospects for sustainability can be investigated at a national level. The contributors compare and contrast these models with the aims of more typical neoclassical modeling in their search for the most effective measure of sustainability. This book will be of great interest to academics in the field of ecological and environmental economics and to policy makers and planners in government and industry.

The goal of this publication is to provide basic tools of differential topology to study systems of nonlinear equations, and to apply them to the analysis of general equilibrium models with complete and incomplete markets. The main content of general equilibrium analysis is to study existence, (local) uniqueness and efficiency of equilibria. To study existence Differential Topology and General Equilibrium with Complete and Incomplete Markets combines two features. As a first step, first order conditions (of agents' maximization problems) and market clearing conditions, instead of aggregate excess demand functions, are used. As a second step, a homotopy argument, stated and proved in relatively elementary manner, is applied to that "extended systemof equations. Local uniqueness and smooth dependence of the endogenous variables from the exogenous ones are studied using a version of a so called parametric transversality theorem. In a standard general equilibrium model, all equilibria are efficient, but that is not the case if some imperfection, like incomplete markets, asymmetric information, strategic interaction, is added. Then, for almost all economies, equilibria are inefficient, and an outside institution can Pareto improve upon the market outcome. Those results are proved showing that a well-chosen system of equations has no solutions.

I recommend this book to anyone planning to use Site Server for hosting web-shops on the net. It give very good understanding of modules and features in Site Server 3.0 and I learned also lot about eCommerce. This is very good book for beginners, but also for planning and take a right decision.

I purchased this book and read it form cover to cover. You will learn some things but "Bible" is far from the truth. Look for the red professional series books by Wrox, they get better ratings. This was one of the first Site Server 3 books and it does not cover enough, not to mention certain sections were cut and pasted... Try one of the newer books..!

That book helped me out with the installation and basic procedures of implementing Site Server 3.0, and I believe that if you need any specific info on a particular detail, you need to get it from another book, resource, etc. After all, you cannot expect this book to teach you ASP (it even did some) to change the content of your websites, right? I think this book is prepared well enough to teach Site Server to people who can further research themselves...

Good for setting up a site, bad for troubleshooting.......1999-11-05

Overall the book is very good at taking you through the steps to complete the site you create. Its very bad however at helping you troubleshoot when things don't go as planned. Perhaps some if this happens, do this type help. It also doesn't go into customizing the code to change how the site looks and operates.

Look for something better.......1999-09-22

I purchased this book because at the time there was not anything else available. It was helpful to the extent that it made the set up some what easier than just using the on-line documentation (which in true microsoft fashion was light). However, overall the book is worthless. Once you have it set up that's where it ends. You are on your own after that. There are far better books available now.
