BREAK OUT THE BAND-AIDS! THIS ONE'S GONNA HURT!.......2001-03-14

I laughed. I cried. I wiped tears of laughter from my eyes. I doubled over laughing. This delightful collections of Beetle Bailey strips is calculated to please any fans of the laziest soldier in comic history. The irate, yet lovable Sarge, his look-alike soulmate, Cookie, (Cookie knows the way to Sarge's heart is through Sarge's stomach), General Half-Track of the roving eye, the aptly named Ms. Buxley, Gen. Half-Track's secretary, rabbit-toothed Zero, the no-nonsense, unflappable Lt. Flapp, and of course the wise Plato, not to mention an assortment of hilarious characters.

I laughed. I cried. I wiped tears of laughter from my eyes. This book will have you reaching for the band-aids because you will laugh until it HURTS!

This is an excellent collection of Beetle Bailey cartoons that ought to satitisfy any fan of the strip.

This is a very practical book for anyone in the consumer risk management or non-developers of score models. Explains in plain language the practical aspects of interpreting KS scores (widely used in the credit card/mortgage/consumer finance/auto loan industries), dealing with the very pertinent issue of disparate impact (Reg B) and the even the basics of score variable analysis -including various types of biases that can come in to play.

A good collection of credit scoring related articles .......2006-10-22

I started reading this book with a low expectation but surprisingly I liked the book when I finished it !. Though it doesn't explain the statistical methods in great detail, its still a good reading for logistics regression based scorecard development. SAS is frequently referred in the text so it's easy for a SAS user.

The chapters I thought useful:

If the reader is not very familiar with US credit bureau data, Chapter 3 gives a good summary and explains the basic structure of the bureau file its importance to consumer finance.

Chapter 4- Scorecard development, Elizabeth Mays describes step by step how a scorecard is developed using logistics regression. More importantly, those who wondered how the final points (say a FICO of 580) arrived at, scaling and assignment of point weights to attributes are specifically discussed .

Chapter 5 - Variable analysis and Reduction details the information value calculations and commonly used variable reduction methods .

Chapter 13- Scorecard Monitoring Reports describes how to track them using front end and back end reporting. Though this chapter reads exactly like a FICO article on the same subject, its a good reading.

Overall, it does not have the disadvantage many people writing. Depth of some chapters is below expectation - for example Chapter 8 Score based loss forecasting.

I recommend this for anyone in consumer lending business. esp the beginning analysts. Also check with my site [...] for my recent readings.

Very helpful book.......2001-09-02

As someone who is not familiar with how credit scoring models are built, I have found this book to be extremely helpful and informative. Our institution has hired a number of vendors to build scorecards in the past but none has explained how the point weights were derived or how it was determined which variables should enter the scorecard. This book provided a very insightful discussion of these issues. It also includes two chapters discussing things you need to keep in mind when implementing scorecards which is the area I work in. It has helped us tremendously in this area.

not worth the money.......2001-04-30

this book doesn't cover any theoretical aspect of credit scoring. for example, almost every authoer is still using K-S statistics, which is no better than just eye-balling the difference between any 2 curves. the book provides no useful information to someone who wants to learn how to do the scoring. this book has 1/3 of overlap with the editor's last book. are the editor and authors just lazy? or the articles are just too good?

An interesting collection of essays by different historians,this book does an excellent job of introducing the beginning university student to a number of issues related to Stalinism and historical methodology(somehow unconsciously);however,the lack of footnotes/endnotes makes this undertaking less credible and useful for more advanced readers.
