If the name fits............2000-06-04
With such an extensive selection of male photography books, it is rare to find one that is a true pleasure to look at time and time again. Stanley Stellar has combined great skill and a host of subjects to produce a book that is truly unique. Most books of this nature have a certain theme or mood attached to them. This is not the case with Stellar Men. There are photographs ranging from the beuaty of the male form to the darker side of homo-eroticism. This book has something to offer for almost every artistic eye. Stellar has an ability to focus more on the importance and impact of the male form to art, than just glorifying the nude body. Every page gives an example of this ability in a varitety of ways. Overall, I feel Stellar Men surpasses "coffee table" status, and has found it's place as an example of photography and art. Enjoy!

Book Description
A buzzword on Wall Street, everyone is interested in increasing "shareholder value." Corporate executives, CEOs, board members, and managers all talk of ways to maximize shareholder value, while growing their businesses. In Corporate Financial Strategy and Decision Making, Harold Bierman discusses all the financial strategies managers should follow to increase shareholder value. He covers corporate financial planning, financial strategies, alternative sources of funds, and other financial angles for managers of all levels. This comprehensive guide also includes in-depth explanations of dividend policy-making, mergers & acquisitions, capital structure, and risk management.

Not worth your time or money.......2006-05-23
This cursory and vapid monograph is unnecessary and unhelpful. Every novice has seen much of this material in his introductory text. Whatever he may find to be new is passed over with so light a touch as to add nothing to the understanding. The practitioner will find no tools, methodologies or insights to enhance his work. I'm not an academic, but it's hard to imagine one could look here for anything. The work is not completely useless, as it serves admirably as a bad example.
Over the years there has been a lot of this sort of expensive nullity from Fabozzi. Caveat emptor.
Book arrived on time and in good shape.......2005-09-18
Book was packaged very well and arrived quickly.
A great summary on the subject.......2001-03-21
This is one book that gives you a quick start. It is best served as an introduction to this subject.
The beauty of this copy is in that it puts together issues in a short and precise manner. It does away with much of the academic content but focus on practicality. If this is your first time doing corporate finance and strategy, then READ THIS BOOK.
Another classic from Prof. Bierman........2000-06-04
Corporate Financial Strategy may be considered a companion book to Bierman and Smidt's textbook, The Capital Budgeting Decision. Bierman's concise book is a highly readable monograph that does not employ advanced mathematics. There are already many books on the market about raising shareholder value. Some of them were written to promote "value based management". Bierman's purpose is not to push any product or service. He offers a lucid and objective treatment of corporate financial strategy. Bierman strips away all the sales and marketing rhetoric that some consultants use, and delivers a book which evinces mastery of the subject.

Book Description
A heartwarming book about living with a terminal illness and making every day enjoyable.
Book Description
The illustrated story of the Luftwaffe's premier fighter defense unit. Tasked with defending the skies over the Third Reich, Jagdgeschwader 1 numbered among its ranks some of the Luftwaffe's leading fighter aces including Heinz B\228r, Walter Oesau and Herbert Ihlefeld. These are the first two volumes in a substantially revised three-volume study of Eric Mombeek's classic work. Many of the 750 photos that will appear throughout this new edition are new and not contained in earlier editions and will be accompanied by 90 new full color profiles (throughout the three volumes) of the unit's Bf 109s and Fw 190s by acclaimed American aviation artist, Tom Tullis.
Customer Reviews:
Colorful Look at a Luftwaffe Elite!.......2005-11-11
The creation and early combat history of Jagdgeschwader 1, one of the Luftwaffe's elite units, is told in this, the first of a three-volume set on the Oesau wing. Springing from the prewar JG 132, JG 1 enjoyed a protracted development, not fielding four groups until early 1942. In the meantime its initial units took part in the Battle of Heligoland Bight, the Polish campaign, the attack on France and the invasion of Russia. The wing subsequently became one of the Luftwaffe's premier fighter defense mainstays, flying Me 109s and FW 190s against RAF and USAAF air attacks from England.
The early years of JG 1's history are concisely told in this wonderfully-illustrated book from Classic Publications. The book features hundreds of photos of Oesau pilots and their aircraft, many of them previously unpublished, along with dozens of nicely done color profiles by Tom Tullis and Eddie Creek.
If you're interested in Luftwaffe fighter units, this book is for you. Highly recommended.

Among the greatest charms of children is their ability to view a simple activity as a magical adventure. Such as a walk in the woods late at night. Jane Yolen captures this wonderment in a book whose charm rises from its simplicity. "It was late one winter night, long past my bedtime, when Pa and I went owling." The two walked through the woods with nothing but hope and each other in a journey that will fascinate many a child. John Schoenherr's illustrations help bring richness to the countryside adventure. The book won the 1988 Caldecott Medal.
Customer Reviews:
Poetic with Beautiful Illustrations.......2007-09-16
Words are not enough to describe this beautifully written and illustrated book. You should experience the descriptive, poetic words and haunting drawings of a young boys rite of passage. All ages would enjoy the well told story. This is a must read!
Owl Moon
Great Kid's book.......2007-04-19
My grandaughter fell in love with this book from the library and Granpa had to buy it for her birthday. It is very well illustrated and well written, Granpa never tires of reading it to her, as she never tires of hearing it. In a market filled with children's books of dubious merit or worth, this is well worth it, to read, to buy, to have in the library of a young reader on her way to a lifetime of reading.
Perfect Bedtime Story.......2007-01-05
I ordered this book based on the reviews found on amazon. I was looking for a nature oriented book for my 2 year old son. This has become, by far, one of our favorite family bedtime stories. The illustrations are beautiful. The story is heart warming and real. My husband loves to read it as much as I do. This is a classic in our library and will remain so for many, many years.
Worthy of an Award - a review of "Owl Moon".......2006-11-19
I like Jane Yolen's work - the children do too (lol). But Owl Moon is probably the most poetic of her works that we have read. The word choice and imagery is wonderful; soft and soothing. You can hear the crunch of snow, and feel the biting cold.
Like the others I give it 5 stars, and would add that it makes for a good bed-time book.
Five Stars. Top notch Read-aloud. Artwork is nice, in darker shades than Yolen's other works. Perhaps not quite as nice in detail, but well suited to the story.
Teacher's Favorite.......2006-11-07
I love this book! It has also been loved by my pre K students every year. I always look forward to reading it to my class and I can't say that about a lot of preschool literature. This story takes my suburban kids on an adventure that, unfortunately, many of them will never experience. It's educational, exciting, and a little spooky (but not too much). Don't hesitate to add it to your collection.
Book Description
After losing her teaching position at the local university, Mariah Moon will do anything to keep her gifted twelve-year-old daughter, Lindsay, in a prestigious private school -- which means moving in with her mother and grandmother in an apartment above The Owl & Moon Café.
When her mother, Allegra, is diagnosed with leukemia, Mariah rises to the challenge of running the café: mastering her mother's famous fudge and chatting up customers -- including a man who might just reawaken her heart. Meanwhile, Lindsay's controversial entry in a major national science contest creates a minor maelstrom in the cosseted Monterey Bay community. And Allegra, with one last great love affair in her, will revisit a man she loved so many years ago, and disclose the biggest secret of the Moon family: the identity of Mariah's father.
Will the Moon women recognize this as the moment to do away with their family history of dubiously fathered children, and learn to forgive others and themselves in order to move forward? In her poignant new novel, bestselling author Jo-Ann Mapson explores the complexities of love and family with the keen eye and stylistic grace that have made her books perennial favorites.

another winner.......2007-04-27
After reading all others,....bad girl...widler...i searched for this one and was again, loving every word. Like previous readers, I picked it up and read it all the way through... It is truly a wonderful read....can't wait until the next novel and can only hope they include all the Bad Girl Crreek women!!!
The Owl and Moon Cafe.......2007-03-24
I GET IT! I get the meaning of the name! Here we have four generations of women running The Owl & Moon Cafe. Gammy, the great-grandmother is religious and getting older. Allegra (Alice) is the hippie grandmother. Mariah is the over-anxious daughter who wants to know who her dad is and then there is her daughter Lindsay. Mariah loses her job at the college and has to move into the upstairs part of the cafe with her mom and grandma, with her daughter in tow. Allegra collapses one day to find out she has leukemia. Lindsay is an 8th-grader, very intelligent and curious about life.
This book has just the right amount of love, friendships and family. You won't want to put it down!
Wonderful and Heartwarming Book.......2007-01-26
This is a wonderful book, so very well written and really strikes close to what real life is and can be like.I would recommend this book highly.I do not think it would be a disappointment to anyone who reads it.
The Owl & Moon Cafe.......2006-09-28
I enjoyed this book. The characters were good. I wish the author would have wrapped things up a little better at the end. I still had some questions that went unanswered. A good read but not a must read.
A Story About Women That's For Everyone.......2006-08-30
I always cringe whenever someone says they or someone they know is a writer and would you mind reading something they wrote and letting me know what you thought of it because I think this person is a really great writer and I respect your opinion....
Oh God. Not another one.
The problem is that I can't lie. I've been hardwired (sometime during my early formation, no doubt) to spout the truth about a piece of literature and how I feel about it. This has led to some rather hard feelings by authors who expected me to put on my kids gloves when critiquing/reviewing their work.
So when the son of Jo-Ann Mapson handed me a copy of his mother's latest literary offering, I felt the critical hairs on the back of my neck rise. Oh no. Would I have to crush any friendship I might have with this man by telling him his mother was a hack writer? That her prose stunk? That she needed to take a course on plotting? I opened The Owl & Moon Café with a heavy sigh, plunged in and ...
...was immediately enthralled. I'll have to be honest and say part of the attraction was that The Owl & Moon Café takes place in my hometown of Pacific Grove, California. But I've read stories by other authors that take place here and was, shall we say, less than impressed. The thing that really struck me was that this novel is a women's book -- covering the lives of four generations of women within the Moon family -- but completely engrossed me (a guy) with its excellent plotting, perfect characters, and flowing prose.
The Owl & Moon Café is ground-zero for these women, starting with "Gammy", the widowed owner of the cafe and mother of Allegra, grandmother of Mariah, and great-grandmother to Lindsay.
After losing her teaching job, embittered single mom Mariah returns to Pacific Grove to work at the café in order to support her brilliant daughter, Lindsay, and keep her in private school. But at the café Mariah has to deal with her aging and bible-thumping "Gammy," and her 60s-loving mother. Things quickly turn sour for Mariah as the family learns that Allegra (her mother) has leukemia and must undergo chemotherapy. But into Mariah's life comes a handsome Scotsman who sweeps her off her feet. Trouble is, though, he's only here for a short while.
Lindsay, an 8th grader, is infatuated with Carl Sagan and science in general. She doesn't have many friends and stresses about everything. In fact, she's so worked up all the time that her stomach goes sour, often resulting in visits to the nurses office at school. She also needs to come up with a science project and when she learns of her grandmother's (Allegra's) cancer, she quickly comes up with a topic: medical marijuana.
Allegra, forced to deal with her cancer, finally goes to the hospital only to meet up with a doctor she knows. Dr. Al Goodnough was the love of her life during her younger, wilder days and the two of them rekindle their passions during the treatment of Allegra's deadly cancer. But will she survive?
All of these women coalesce into a melting pot of family, what-ifs, and probabilities as they battle love, family, cancer, marijuana, and finding out the true meaning of belonging somewhere.
I have to share one paragraph from the story that really caught my attention when it came to character development, prose, and flow. This is on page 107 and it's from Allegra's point of view after she'd learned of her leukemia and started having trouble with Mariah, her adult daughter: `Doc had resurfaced at the worst possible time. She was almost fifty, dried up like an old walnut. Her life would play out like a World War II movie, a romance that might have been; only in her case, instead of Nazis, goose-stepping leukocytes. Doc would do his valiant best, but eventually those cells would beat him down. All that would be left of them was Mariah. Hurricane Mariah.'
It's incredible how much information about the characters and the story are revealed in this little section but, there you go, that's great writing.
So the next time my friend at work mentions that his mom has a new book out, he won't have to prompt me to read it; I'll run to the bookstore!

Book Description
One wintry night, a child awakens to find a mysterious owl perched at his window. Together, the two set off to a place where countless owls circle the sky and snow flutters down from their wings. Recreated with graceful, precise brushwork, the majestic birds of Snow Moon seem poised to fly off the page. This story's lilting, lyrical text is just right for bedtime reading.

A beautiful story.......2003-09-10
We also found this book at the library and my three year old is rapt every time it is read to him. The text is beautiful and simple and given to such lovely soft inflections and cadences that you can easily create winter and the sound of a train as it travels through the night. We have read this story every night for over the past six weeks.
Beautiful and works magic on toddlers at bedtime.......1999-02-09
One of the most beautiful books and poetic books I've seen for children. Found it at the library and had to get it for my 2 year old. It always does its magic for her at bedtime and quiets her down. Highly recommended.
