Any book by Tim Grey is terrific, and this is no exception. I use it for teaching.

Disappointing.......2007-04-11

This textbook was not what I was expecting. Albeit, the author attempts to provide concrete examples of projects, I found the supporting text difficult to follow. Stock photos are nice, but that's about it. If you are a novice, or new to PSE 5 this book isn't for you.

This book is an excellent reference and a must read for photographers caught in limbo between "wet" and "digital". Whereas many books on the market are filled with tricks and techniques for using Photoshop, Mr. Kennedy takes the reader much further into the nuts and bolts of work flows, and the proper configuration of photoshop. The author demystifies the printing process for both the novice and the pro by presenting clear and concise explanations for understanding profiles for color and grey scale printing.

Complete Guide to the Digital Darkroom.......2007-07-30

This book offers easy to understand instructions on creating and using a digital darkroom. It provides the information photographers need to work successfully and efficiently in a digital darkroom.

It is especially relevant to traditional "wet" darkroom photographers in that it provides methods for creating work prints and then finished prints. Kennedy calls these workflows. He describes a fast and easy method for creating a work print as the "hard proof" workflow. This technique is designed to replicate the wet darkroom photographers work print and is an idea not really described by anyone else. He also describes workflows for making final prints, black and white prints and soft proofs. He completes his book with the use of third-party products (for example ink, paper and printer software) in the digital darkroom.

Beyond these workflow techniques he does a great job of describing and decyphering the technology associated with digital devices such as digital cameras, printers and scanners.

This should be considered a complete workshop in a book.

This collection of reprinted cartoons by Garry Trudeau is not one of my favorite books, but it does date back to the time when I rushed to read his strip every day. Baby boomers will probably enjoy re-reading and remembering. Younger people may not understand some of it since many of the strips deal with events that haven't been current for decades, but some are more timeless and still as valid today as ever.

An aquaintance of mine (to whom I gave this book) using the Doonesbury books to teach his children about recent history. They don't understand a lot of the references, so he discusses the subjects with them and then they appreciate the humor and learn something.

This is a great book for anyone who wants to go into the health care field. Its such an easy read, one which you wont want to put down. Each story is a chapter, and he does a great job of not confusing the reader with technical jargon. Great book!

A doctor who actually cares........2002-09-07

This book walks you through some of the experiences of a pediatric geneticist. Be prepared to "feel" as you read this book, because it will evoke thoughts, feelings and emotions. It makes you realize that for some doctors, thier job is more than a job. For some doctors, thier job is a constant life lesson, and for the rest of us, we can vicariously learn these lessons through the eyes of Dr. Marion.

These volumes provide an unparalleled account of the conduct of American diplomacy in the early years of the republic, while the war with Britain continued and after the treaty of alliance with France was signed. John Adams served for ten months as a commissioner to France. Though he was the newest member of the three-man commission, he was its chief administrator, handling most of its correspondence, and his papers are the first full documentary record of the commission ever published. They provide a wealth of detail on every aspect of diplomacy, from negotiations with ministers of state to the arranging of prisoner exchanges.

The documents throw new light on Adams' relations with his fellow commissioners, Benjamin Franklin and Arthur Lee. Historians have depicted Adams as hostile to Franklin and supportive of Lee, but the record shows that he found himself increasingly in disagreement with Lee, while working harmoniously with Franklin from the outset. Moreover, after the commission was disbanded in February 1779 and Franklin was appointed Minister to France-a move Adams had advocated-he undertook an important mission at Franklin's behest. It is now clear that the rift that developed between the two statesmen did not begin until after Adams' return to Paris in 1780.

Legal and constitutional scholars will find Volume 8 of particular interest. The Massachusetts Constitution of 1780, drafted by John Adams in 1779, served as a crucial source for the Constitution of the United States; today it is the oldest written constitution in the world still in effect. The earliest surviving version of Adams' text, the Report of a Constitution for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, is here published with full annotation for the first time. Enhanced with lovely drawings by Jennifer Owings Dewey, along with photos and discussions of birds, kids, and birdwatching, covering such issues as how to attract birds to making hummingbird nectar or identifying birds, all the basics are here, with a Southwest orientation. Highly recommended!
