Malaparte: A House Like Me offers an extraordinary look at Malaparte, the man and the house. A work of art in itself, Malaparte: A House Like Me includes a series of photographs produced especially by the renowned Italian photographer Mimmo Jodice, archival materials and documents, poetry, original art, letters, memoirs, commentaries, and an original musical score. The unseen Capri.......2003-07-07

If you go Napoli's gulf you should visit Capri. Don't make the mistake i made by following herds of tourists to Capri. All that you'll be able to see is a kind of disney village and a lot of postcard shops and eat unbelievably expensive ice cream.
And you'll probably miss a landmark of architecture which is Malaparte's house.
The book is not only a great bargain, it is an intelligent tribute to Malaparte. You should also read Malaparte's The Skin.

I am 15 and i have about 16 cartooning books this has to be the worst is was a TOTAL WASTE OF $$$$ i can draw better than this my dog could draw better than this it taught me absoulutly nothing dont buy this book its just the worst book ive ever read i wish i could give zero stars if i could i agree with the guy from detroit I REPEAT DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY GO GET SOMETHING BY CHRISTOPHER HART

for collectors.......2001-07-06

While this book has some value in that it teaches the basics competently, there is nothing here that can't be gotten from other books with equal competence and better examples. Intro books by Randy Glasbergen, Mark Heath, Robin Hall, Christopher Hart, Roger Armstrong, Duane Barnhart, Bruce Blitz, Al Bohl, etc., are all equally valuable as instruction (if not more so), and they provide finer examples of what cartooning can look like. Even though this book has useful info for the beginner, I'd still recommend that a beginner start with one of those other ones first, and check this one out later if you're still hungry for anything you haven't already read. (Or if you collect cartooning books and need to have them all...)

EXCELLENT for intermediates and beginners.......2001-02-01

The cartoonists Bible brings my collection of cartooning books to 42!! I know, sad isnt it but thats what I collect. I cant understand the negative comments of the guy from detroit?!~# Is he a rival cartoonists or maybe he is simply stupid. Anyway out of all my collection I would put Cartoonists Bible in the top 5 or 6 out of 42. Mainly aimed at the beginner and intermediate. A great book written in a humerous way. I hope there is a follow up to this book 'cause it would definatley make number 43 in my collection.

Fantastic book. Really helped me get on with my artwork although I couldnt understand the attitude of the guy from detroit. Is he a rival cartoonist or something ???????????!!!!!!!!! Definatly recommended.

Definitely NOT the Good Book!.......2000-03-24

This isn't the cartoonist's bible, its a nightmare straight from the pits of hell! An awful book. The author's style is horrible, and his ideas are worse than amateurish. There are so many good books on cartooning out there, to waste your money on this one would be an unpardonable sin!

MUST HAVE FOR ALL INDEPENDENT INVESTOR.......2001-01-02

This book is thorough, in-depth data on the companies of the midcap sector. Having an independent evaluator (not the brokerage inbred stock analysts) discuss and provide not only buy/sell/hold rankings but also give fair values is priceless! The scope of companies covered is vast, and the reviews are extensive and well written. The only down side is fair values, current rankings are a few months out of date, because publishing is not instantaneous. However, this is a good background book, and I like to have a hard copy to thumb thru on those snowed in days. I recommend this book highly along with the s+p 500 large cap and the s+p 600 small cap books. They are all excellent starting places for the independent investor. I subscribe to the standard and poors "personal wealth" on the internet for 9 dollars a month for current reviews/ recommendations.

The expectations of the previous Civil War soldier generation combined with the youthful volunteers full of boundless energy confronted by the realities of politics on a global stage. The inevitable personal confusion and resulting dismay were result of the Philippine's portion of the Spanish American War.

Admiral Dewey's steel ships battered the wooden Spanish fleet but there were no national heroes, no San Juan Hill, and no glorious result, much like a war fought over half a century later. When the soldiers ended up fighting the people that they were sent to free, the results were tarnished. The author uses his superb command of the historical facts to weave a concise timeline of events.

In World Trade since 1431, Peter Hugill showed how the interplay of technology and geography guided the evolution of the modern global capitalistic system. Now, in the successor to that widely acclaimed book, Hugill shifts the focus to telecommunications, once again demonstrating that those nations that best developed and marketed new technologies were the nations that rose to world power.

Beginning with the advent of the telegraph in the 1840s, Hugill shows how each major change in transportation and communications technologies brought about a corresponding transformation from one world economy to another. British advances in international telegraphy after the American Civil War, for example, kept that nation just ahead of the United States in the communications race, a position it held until 1945. Hugill explains how such developments as aerial bombardment of cities in World War I spurred the development of radio and, ultimately, radar. He also traces the steps that led to the British surrender of world hegemony to the United States at the end of World War II.

Intriguing perspective of technology and world politics........1999-04-26

Dr. Hugill presents his synthesis of how technology has affected political primacy in the world during the 19th and 20th centuries. While an avid disciple of Halford Mackinder, the renowned British geographer, he also realizes the importance of Mahan in helping shape 20th century geopolitics. The main thrust of his book is a novel approach to how technology has been a much more important part of the geopolitical equation than many previous scholars have given it credit for. According to Dr. Hugill, it was communications that was the decisive factor in the defeat of Germany in both World Wars. The technological lead held by the British in communications proved to be an insurmountable obstacle for the Germans to overcome during the First World War. Another topic emphasized by Dr. Hugill is radar. He posits that radar was an intergral part of the British "moat" defensive attitude during the second World War. Because of radar the British were able to defeat the Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain and stave off British defeat. Germany's failure to properly adapt radar to their own defensive severely limited their ability to interdict the RAF in its air assault upon Germany. While at first glance some of Professor Huhill's observation's about the political cartoon might appear to be slightly far-fetched, upon deeper reflection it is easy to realize the impact they had upon the population of Great Britain. The sexual image of the Zeppelin assaulting the "virgin" territory must have had an immense psychlogical impact upon an early 20th century audience that is no where as sophisticated as the one pundits pander to in this day and age. Although the price of the hardcover edition might be considered by some to be a little excessive, both graduate students in the history and geography fields will find this a must for their personal libraries as well as those individuals having an interest in both technology and modern geopolitics.
