Old News - The internet hype is nauseating.......2002-03-07
This book was obviously written at the peak of the internet "Boom". The majority of the companies cited as examples of the onslaught of the new economy are no longer in existence. Earnings are barely mentioned. Companies cited as the movers and shakers of tomorrow are now penny stocks. The total lack of balance relative to other sectors is appalling and in retrospect is by itself educational. Everyone bought into the hype including the entire VC industry. This might explain why they all sat on the sideline in 2001 trying to regain their sense of direction. The entertainment value is a 5 and the educational value a 1. It is your choice.
Good Read-Lots of Great Insight Even After the Shakedown.......2001-05-17
I was very impressed by the knowledge in this book. It has a ton of useful information for everyone from entrepreneurs to investors to other financial professionals. In addition, the content is fresh and much more applicable to the "after the shakedown" landscape than other venture capital oriented books such as eBoys, Confessions of a Venture Capitalist and Done Deals. This is a great book that has a ton of useful information straight from some very accomplised venture capitalists.
amusing archaelogical artifact.......2001-02-11
10,000 years ago there was a civilization where people would throw money onto the street and it would turn into huge castles and fat bank accounts. Then there was an unknown worldwide catastrophe and that world completely disappeared. Later on a book was discovered where the people throwing all the money around told their stories, oblivious to the coming world catastrophe. Its fascinating to see inside the minds of these primitive humans.
Finally I Understand Venture Capital.......2000-11-16
This is an extremely unique and exciting book. I have always had questions for venture capitalists, and reading this book answered many of them. The style is clear, and it is very easy to understand. The interviews have obviously been conducted meticulously, and very good questions are asked. If you run an internet business or are going to have any future interaction with venture capitalists, you would be silly not to pick this up and read it.

This is a great little book to get you around LA if you are a shopaholic and even if you are not. It inludes even the most obscure shops and has very honest critiques and good directions - plus lots more!

This is the second book of theirs that I've bought. They are great because they are up to date, and so helpful. With each store, it has the address, phone number, opening hours and everything else about it that can be of use. They give good descriptions of what the store carrys and a tid bit of info about the owners etc. At the back of the book there is a few restaurant picks as well. Another great thing about this book is that it caters to anyone of any financial status. There are high end stores and stores geared to people with a budget in mind. The only possible bonus they could maybe include next issue would be a few photos here and there, but really, in general, this guide is great for helping you choose the best spots to go to and you can narrow down what is and what isn't of interest to you. Although I know Los Angeles very well, there are a few stores in here that I may not otherwise have known about and for that, I'm happy to buy a copy every couple of years or so.

The book is bright and cheery, with helpful suggestions on feeding babies and toddlers. However, since the original version was published in Britain, I suspect some of the measurements were not converted correctly. (1/2 TEASPOON of Tomato Puree in a meat sauce??)

A great tale of World War II.......2005-03-06
I could barely put this book down. It was a reviting story from the first page to the last.
The author also did not get into the "I'm so great" attitude that so many people do. Fighter pilots seem espcially prone to this idea.
It was also written in a nice simple matter that takes the time to explain what was going on for those who are not familair with the Second World War.
It is a great first person account of the air war in the Pacific.

Having met Bruce Porter, I can honestly say the guy is a jewel. Sure, I was all of ten then but he was just a nice, funny guy. His book is a illustration of this. His opening anecdote is of how the Marines "stole" him from the navy. From there it is the very best of history written by a man who was there.
I highly suggest this book to historians, Marines, vets and aviators the world across. Anyone else too.
ACE is a winner!.......2000-06-13
ACE is a good look at the world of WWII night pilots. It brings with it the Marine punch that delivers the grit and form to keep a reader enthralled.
