I really enjoyed this book. I don't personally like alot of the work contained in the book, but I believe some of the work is ground breaking (method, umbra, some of the fragrance packaging, and a couple pieces of furniture...) and most is interesting compared to other products in stores, and some of the interior design is pretty progressive.
The layout of the text is bothersome but thankfully there isn't too much.... If your into design books this one isn't disappointing. The quality of evolution is better than I want to change the world. You can see alot of the work in the book on his website if your interested in his designs.

I am a graphic designer who is always looking
for new inspirational ideas and concepts within
any median.
I tend to be drawn to actual substancial pieces
that I can hold, touch, and smell, instead of books.
But this book is FULLY illustrated with concepts
and substancial pieces that almost jump right
off of each page.
Karim... You officially have a new fan!
His views on such things as how we preceive things
are an easy intriguing read. I recommend this book
to anyone int he design field looking to broaden
their horizens and outlook on life as we "knew" it.

Tom Blake: THE Man for Many Reasons.......2001-02-26
Tom Blake Surfing: 1922-1932 presents a selection of Blake's photographs that define a period in surfing, a period of innovation and rediscovery of surfing's ancient Hawaiian roots. Blake's invention, the paddleboard, stands beside the heavier redwood boards of the period and provides a striking contrast in shape and weight. These lighter boards created a controversy when Blake paddled them to easy victories in races. They were clearly a quantum leap for surfboard design. Interestingly enough, the Blake innovation--hollowing surfboards--is still used today with balsa boards. In addition, if you have been to a beach in the summer and noticed the large wood boards atop rescue vehicles, you have seen the Tom Blake design at work to this day. The photographs, laid out in a eye-pleasing format on very fine paper, allow the reader to, as it were, review a unique period of history seen by few until this time and lived by few during that period, since history covering this time period usually focuses on the Roaring Twenties. Here the Roaring Waves provide another view of the Roaring Twenties, a view of life in California and Hawaii at once wholesome and relaxed. If readers look closely at the themes presented here in the photographs, they will discover the breadth of experience Tom Blake had at this time and later. To illustrate, Tom Blake was a stunt man for Hollywood, an inventor, a champion swimmer, a champion paddler, a historian and replicator of ancient Hawaiian surfboards, a phototgrapher...and more. What an impressive list for any man. Gary Lynch and Tom Adler have forever preserved an important bit of surfing history. Their hard work and attention to detail show in the informative Foreward and the explanatory notes at the end of the book. Only Blake's own notations appear on the photographs, allowing viewers to make observations on their own. This book is one of my treasured possessions.
Tom Blake : Surfing 1922-1932.......2001-02-24
Gary Lynch and Tom Adler have put together a book to expose Tom Blake to the general public. After a brief foreward that introduces us to Tom, we are supplied with images of a man that will immortalize him. Tom Blake was not an ordinary man or surfer. He was an innovative inventor that changed the pastime of surfing. A pictorial history of Blake is followed with thumbnails of the pictures and brief/succinct notes. I enjoyed the variety of the images and the emphasis on the "beach life." Blake obviously lived cleanly and simply. His life was directed by a force of nature that was compelling for him. The pictures are inspiring. It is a recollection of a time when surfing was simple. Yet, Blake, the man, was anything but the common thinker or surfer. He was a work of art and so is the book.

Unique Character, Mildly Amusing.......2003-05-11
This book is a compilation of comics featuring the cartoon minister Brother Biddle. The book starts with comics from 1978 and ends with a cartoon made for the book from 1989. The first part of the book is divided by theme with several comics concerning such subjects as the rapture, fundamentalism, Catholicism v. Protestantism, televangelism, ministerial job security, women in the ministry, church funding, Hell, the media, and racism. The rest of the book seems to be a hodgepodge of strips and cartoons of various styles including a take-off of The Raven. The comics are dated at times, Brother Biddle does a rendition of "Beat It" plus there are several cartoons of Jim and Tammy Faye Baker. The comics are interesting and, at times, very intellectual. The humor sometimes, however, can be silly. Catholics and Protestants battle it out in a softball game dubbed "Reformation II". On the subject of women in the ministry, First Church regular, old lady Naomi Muffin, demands "more sermons about fashion trends and thinner thighs" and wants the steeple painted pink (give me a break). Still, it is a nice little book for leisure reading. It is fun to see how Rob Suggs' artwork changed through the years

This was given to me as a bday gift by a band mate that knows I've been keeping my own list of jokes, but this is by far the most complete I've ever seen. Most of these I hadn't heard of, and I loved the quotes and the stories. Glad someone took the time to do this right!

Here is another of those wonderful Dorling Kindersley titles that you can open at any page and be amazed. I can't really add much more than the Editorial Synopsis above regarding the contents, except to say that this is a beautifully produced book with well thought out editorial content, large photos (mostly as cutouts with a grey drop shadow that makes them float on the page) with excellent captions. Some of the models are quite amazing, frequently using hundreds of thousands of bricks and used in the Lego theme parks.
There are some lovely touches throughout the pages, ten to twenty-three has a company time-line showing how Lego originated and as the years go by keeping up with new developments in technology so that now the little bricks come with chips. Pages thirty-two to thirty-seven explain how bricks are made and to illustrate this an assembly line of Lego was constructed and photographed.
Buyers of this book should know that it is not a how-to manual though, there are a few pages of things to make, including (pages seventy-one and two) a beautiful moving skeleton that looks like it has less than fifty pieces. As the basic Lego unit is an oblong brick, curves have always been a problem and model makers who join the company have to learn how to make round things out of straight things. I noticed that one area still defies a credible solution: lettering! Any letters have to be made of straight lines and with capitals like A and R they end up looking the same.
I think, for the price, this is a wonderful book that any Lego user will enjoy.

Excelente libro.......2005-11-02
Este libro me enseñó un camino a seguir, siguiendo un modelo perfecto como lo es María. Ella siendo su madre, lo amó como se puede amar a un hijo, Cristo siendo el hijo la amó como se puede amar a una madre, de hecho como dice el libro: Si quisiéramos imitar a Jesús, tendríamos necesariamente que amar a la Virgen Santísima. Amarla como Cristo la amó, escucharla como Cristo la escuchó, venerarla -No adorarla- como su hijo divino la veneró. Y al final fijándonos en ella terminaríamos con la respuesta que les dio a los criados en las bodas de Caná: "Haced lo que Él les diga".
Les recomiendo ampliamente este libro, escrito de una manera elocuente, lleno espiritualidad e identificación humana con
María y fácil de llevar.

The best on the subject.......2001-07-06
I first read this book when I was 14 years old (1976). I bought a copy of the final printing in the 1980's. Although very technical in nature, this book is the absolute finest work produced about the finest piston-engined fighter of all time. With the recent intrest in WWII, a reprint of this work would sell like crazy.

Species throughout all 50 states and parts of Canada are depicted, including such birds as the whooping crane, white and glossy ibises, roseate spoonbill, great egret, wood stork, and great blue heron. Also included are a list of wading bird classifications, a bibliography, and an index. Range maps show where these exotic birds exist in North America.
